I personally think these threads are much better for the wide range of discussion without falling into argument/nastiness between camps. It’s so nice to be able to dip in and out of things and yet stay quite civil and friendly.

I agree, I think the lifelong patronage is the better model, from several perspectives.

I really don’t think it’s realistic to have less than 8-10 working royals. This is a huge country in terms of population compared to many monarchies.

Spudlet · 25/11/2022 14:11

I’ve said this many times before, but Princess Anne really knows her stuff about her charities. She definitely isn’t just a figurehead who gets wheeled in to read off an autocue! She’s taken the time to get to know the ins and outs, and it really shows. It would be a shame if that stopped being possible.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 25/11/2022 14:13

Yes I wholeheartedly agree with that.

Not fashion, but style (of sorts):

‘Deck the Halls’ at Windsor Castle

(Daily Mail link, just to warn you!)

Felt strange to see the Queen pictured - it will be so different this year with the King’s Speech instead.

@TangledWebofMincemeatDeception love the name btw, thank you for posting this, I was wondering if it was too early to start Xmas decorations lol. I have seen a few people have lights up outside already.
The new thread title is making me smile as I wonder how many people will think it refers to King Charles and his wee boots 😃
I certainly hadn’t got a clue who the other Charles was until I found this thread

eggandonion · 25/11/2022 16:39

Sort of fashion...an elderly friend in the states is a retired diplomat, who had to work with Princess Diana at an event at a US college. She was very impressed at Dianas communication skills and her in depth knowledge of the subject in hand. And she wore the colours of the college flag!
She was also at a world wildlife meeting chaired by the Duke of Edinburgh, who she also found really interested, and spoke without notes.
I think it would be a mistake to sideline the younger members of the family completely, if they are keen to take on some roles. And attend weddings and appear in Hello.

KnickerlessParsons · 25/11/2022 17:26

The monarchy is slimming itself down due to age and natural passage of time. It must be quite a concern for William and Catherine as they face a future with pretty much the whole show in their shoulders

By the time William is king his children will all be adults.

gingercat02 · 25/11/2022 17:42

William could be king anytime. Charles is in his 70's and doesn't look as hale and hearty as his parents did. I doubt he will make it into his 90's. (Not wishing ill on him btw)

So, after DARING to post in The royal family topic about, ya know, the royal family, and receiving replies from a couple of people who, frankly, should seek other places to find their kicks/power trips/entertainment/all of the above, I was pointed in the direction of this thread. Looks right up my alley!

I was pondering…

Seeing the family orders on display at the state dinner the other night made me wonder.

What colour do you think Charles’ will be?

Elizabeth II was yellow
George VI was rose pink
George V was pale blue
Edward VI was red, white and blue apparently (!)

I’m going pale green for CR III - what do you think? And how long until we see it?

Syrax · 25/11/2022 18:38

(With thanks to @TangledWebofMincemeatDeception for signposting me here!)

Maireas · 25/11/2022 18:44

Welcome, @Syrax! Good question, someone upthread thought purple, but perhaps a pale colour as they need to stand out against all evening wear.

👋 @Syrax

Yes I had thought either dark blue/green, or possibly purple. But then I thought the paler ‘post-it’ colours would show up better/look nicer.

I can’t remember whether this has already been mentioned:

A new royal baby is on the way in Monaco - it’s been announced that Princess Stéphanie is going to be a grandmother!

DisforDarkChocolate · 25/11/2022 19:25

I think Charles will pick a nice deep cream. Based on absolutely no evidence whatsoever.

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 25/11/2022 19:34

Ohhh like a cappuccino colour!

Eaumyword · 25/11/2022 19:44

Also based on no reason whatsoever, I think he will go with dove grey!

KillingMeDeftly · 25/11/2022 19:48

Aha I thought as much when I saw the photos the other day!

RomainingCalm · 25/11/2022 20:21

My vote is for a pale green for his love of the outdoors. 🪴

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 25/11/2022 20:40

A sage green would be lovely. Possibly with lavender or cream accents.

ShamedBySiri · 25/11/2022 20:53

Princess Anne has been having a great time in the Falklands. Penguins and gorse and shipwrecks, army and army dogs. Just her thing.

And I bring bling! I don't remember seeing this lovely brooch of a basket of flowers before, not sure if Her Majesty wore it much or where it came from. I doubt we'll see it for a long time, it may have been gifted to someone I suppose but I don't think it would be Catherine's style, so if it's in the general pool of items available to Royal ladies it won't be to everyone's taste. I love it though.

I like the jaunty feather in her cap hat!

I think this one was from her parents, when she had Charles (or Ann maybe).

(I had a bunch of gladioli from my parents garden ☺️)

AdaColeman · 25/11/2022 21:48

Camilla loves that Philip Treacy boucle beret, I like the jaunty feather. She's wearing her Rifles brooch there too.

Just up her street. She'll have done her homework, too.
