Because I think this is not nice. It makes the lady look like a doily.

Too many horizontal lines going on.

Emmelina · 11/11/2022 07:52

She looks like a toilet roll dolly in that! Remember those?

ArabeI · 11/11/2022 09:59

I like the idea of black tights and gold shoes, agreeing with a tiny number of pps here, as I've seen that look elsewhere. Though not those particular gold shoes used by Boden.

pinkksugarmouse · 11/11/2022 18:56

No.

My dh would laugh if I wore that. And why are rara skirts back???

So a new generation can look stupid, probably. Most of fashion is stupid anyway.

Talapia · 12/11/2022 06:56

It looks like a party dress my mum made me when I was a kid in the 70's.

I don't understand the latest Boden mail out. It's all tulle skirts and jumpers worn with bed socks and gold lame sandals. Less SJP in her SATC heyday, more child hopped up on Smarties raids dressing up box.

Agree.

There was only 1 or 2 items I'd remotely consider buying and even then it was difficult to see what they'd actually look like because of the low lighting they'd used. There was a reasonably plain black dress but it seemed to be very textured fabric, but you couldn't really see how busy it looked in that light.

I know you're expected to look on the website for more pictures and the mailing is presumably designed to inspire you to go to the website. It didn't though.

Also got my fairfax & favor mailing, altogether better (everything is well lit so you can actually see the items).

This.
Although turns out the Lettuce Sea Slug is solar powered.... How clever!

Thinking about Christmas party and New Year's Eve and need a party dress.

What's everyone wearing- I need inspiration

I'm a size 16 aged 50

Yes, I love frills. But I’d wear it with ankle boots and I wouldn’t spend that much on it.

Didn’t know people over 9 years old still wore Boden.

You might get more replies if you start a new thread in Style and Beauty.

I know. Thought I had but obviously hadn't. I have since started a thread. Sorry 😉

It could be nice on a different model with a smaller chest. The look of an old-fashioned doll, but exaggerated, and an odd colour too, is part of the aesthetic. I think it is to look like ‘vintage’ chic, or pulling things out of an attic dress -up box. There is a touch of Miss Haversham about it.

Pigeon31 · 19/11/2022 09:26

Was watching What We Do In The Shadows, and this is a full on Nadia dress. If you enjoy gothy accessories, it probably would look great (the lace up victorian style boots, etc) - not sure this is Boden's usual customer base though :)

boatyardblues · 19/11/2022 09:27

Frenchfancy · 08/11/2022 16:44

I'd wear it if I needed to go to a fancy dress party as a Christmas tree.

Yeah, I was just thinking you could pin tinsel and baubles to it for full fancy dress.

Butteredtoast55 · 19/11/2022 14:38

Hideous and very unflattering. It's a no from me!

Aria999 · 19/11/2022 14:51

It has a Victorian lady-of-questionable-virtue vibe.

Ellmau · 20/11/2022 01:05

I don't mind the frilliness, but the torso and waist are just really unflattering.

avocadoandchill · 20/11/2022 22:30

Is this thread promoted by mumsnet?!

Hate the dress. Colour is nice.

DelphiniumBlue · 20/11/2022 23:01

Hideously unflattering , and the styling is horrendous. The shoes don't even fit the model! And thick black tights with those shoes??

KirstenBlest · 21/11/2022 16:30

I think they usually have at least one badly styled horror to generate publicity.

BatCheeseIsFine · 21/11/2022 16:40

Well that would explain a lot. Imagine being the designer tasked with this year's monstrosity. "Nope - still not garish enough. Add some more pom poms. Make it more hotchpotch. Come on, I want SASSY."

Bestcatmum · 21/11/2022 16:41

That would actually quite suit me but not with those awful shoes and black tights.

KirstenBlest · 21/11/2022 16:44

Didn't they have a jumper with a weirdly placed giraffe or something on it one year?
Didn't a different clothing brand (FatFace?) have a christmas jumper with what looked like dangling nipples all around the yoke one year?

eyope · 21/11/2022 19:03

£220 for 100% polyester is laughable. For that money I'd expect good quality materials.

Also it's very little Bo Peep, and misshapen around the boobs - the tailoring makes the chest look droopy even if it's not.
