@itsmeagainagain avoid double breasted as these tend to be nipped in at the waist and then flare out at the hip which will make your hips look bigger. I'd recommend a fluid long line style something like this Ma&S style

@juicy0 i would suggest waiting a few weeks as all of the new spring collections are dropping end feb/ start of March. But key items I'm looking at:

Satin bias cut midi skirt
Boucle jacket
Denim midi skirt
Bomber jacket

@frillseeking ok I will hold fire, I'm desperate to get into spring both mentally and physically! I did buy myself a new pair of jeans yesterday, they're a new shape for me but I wanted some to wear with a heeled boot or sandal. www.jigsaw-online.com/products/balfour-long-wide-leg-jean-vintage-mid-blue

Hi Frillseeing, I'm so happy you're still here! Can I ask you how you would style this green Zara waistcoat that I bought on impulse and have never worn? I WFH so it would just be for casual-ish drinks/lunch etc and I definitely can't wear it with bare arms like in these photos - I'm size 10 & tall but middle-aged with crap tone and need cover! If I don't start wearing it soon I never will.

juicy0 · 18/02/2023 09:31

@frillseeking in terms of footwear do you think ballet flats will make a return?

frillseeking · 18/02/2023 10:46

@ScribblingPixie thank you! I've attached some style inspo. I would pair back with lighter colours as we move towards spring and to avoid the look being too severe and soften with neutral accessories. It's a great piece though!

Thanks so much, I was stuck on black or dark jeans & wouldn't have thought to go lighter like that. I bought some desert boots 2 years ago and have never worn them so I can bring those out of the cold for this too. So pleased, thanks again!

juicy0 · 18/02/2023 16:13

@frillseeking great news, I'm a bit done with trainers all the time!

Thanks @frillseeking will order that 👍

@frillseeking I’m not very good at buying for my actual lifestyle. I love dressing up but I haven’t worked in an office for years and I probably only go out out somewhere smart once a month. Most days I’m at home and cooking the dinner or cleaning the bathroom. Can you suggest any looks for someone who loves to look current and feminine but also needs to be practical? I’m in my 50’s, 5ft 5 and a size 10 with a Winter colouring and I’m happy to spend on the right items.

Iwasntgettingasandwich · 19/02/2023 13:21

Can I ask another question? You answered one about wide trousers and footwear weeks ago!

I'm thinking about Spring jackets and really like the boxy Channel-type ones, not necessarily tweed but that shape. Where would be a good place to look? Or can you recommend something else? I have a couple of denim jackets and can't wear fitted blazers, I look awful in them! Matronly.

frillseeking · 20/02/2023 10:39

@notanicepersonapparently are you thinking loungewear type vibes? I wasn't sure as you said happy to spend but also you'd be cleaning the bathroom etc which I do in my old scruffs! I've attached a couple of 'luxe' loungewear looks if this is the vibe you were thinking of. Both of these you could pair back with a leather jacket or gilet for popping to the shops

@frillseeking What I was trying to say (and not doing it very clearly, sorry for that) was that I wanted something that I can wear during the day but won’t get ruined when it comes to making the spaghetti bolognaise or running the cleaner round for 5 mins. I would love to be able to wear a Sézane lace blouse everyday but they would get ruined. I promise to change into scruffs to clean the bath in future though.

frillseeking · 21/02/2023 20:00

@notanicepersonapparently what about something along these lines? You could wear with trainers and a leather jacket or a suede ankle boot and a trench coat if you're popping out and about. It gives the look of being dressed up without being over the top and it's feminine (I.E Sezane vibes.)
I've also attached a gorfeous H&M boucle jacket. Again with jeans, a simple tshirt and white trainers you could wear this as an every day look

@frillseeking i love those. Thank you so much. Do you have a link for the skirt outfit?

notanicepersonapparently · 21/02/2023 20:49

Sorry. I’ve just seen it’s Mint Velvet. I’ll go and find it.

@Iwasntgettingasandwich I absolutely love those little jackets and they're so handy to have in the wardrobe. They are huge at the moment so a good time to make a purchase, as you'll wear them for years to come.

Zara is my go to for this kind of look at an affordable price. I love the attached style with the gorgeous pocket detailing which adds a military feel.

Mango have a sell out style which is really lovely, image attached which comes in 4 colours. H&M also have lots of styles in at the moment - see my previous post -the blue tweed number.

River island are also great at this type of product- they buy some amazing Italian fabrics for their jackets which are v premium at a superb price. This style is a bit more dressy but looks great back with denim https://www.riverisland.com/p/cream-boucle-embellished-jacket-756403

For a slightly different take, I love this cardigan from Massimo Dutti https://www.massimodutti.com/gb/striped-knit-cardigan-with-buttons-l05660624

At the higher end, have s look at Sandro or Maje. This style is just beyond https://uk.sandro-paris.com/en/woman/blazers-et-jackets/tweed-jacket/SFPVE00794.html?dwvarSFPVE007944color=I035#adlgid=m%7Cg%7Csandro+paris%7C647781461206%7Cp&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5M-U38mnQIVBLTtCh3Few3SEAAYASAAEgJx5fDDBwE&start=1

I was looking at h&m after picture you put above.
Would never have thought of River Island though, that jacket is lovely.

Is the second dark one with the blue jeans the Maje one? I've looked at their things before. That is the sort of style I want. I am casual, I've really embraced looser clothes but I also want to feel a little more put together sometimes.

frillseeking · 21/02/2023 22:32

@Iwasntgettingasandwich that ones Mango, love the way they've styled it there. Heres the link:

The price! It looks (in the pictures) much more expensive. I think I have found my jacket!

You are a superstar! And this thread is wonderful.

alpacamaraca · 21/02/2023 22:37

Any suggestions for a summer wedding?
Church wedding then festival style reception in a field. Footwear is my main dilemma.

Size 16, large tummy, 5ft 5 although hoping to be a 14 by then!

CertainUncertain · 22/02/2023 12:30

@frillseeking

Hope you survived half-term! I have a jacket question, if that's ok? I don't need a lot of new stuff this season, but am looking for a couple of pieces to update, particularly a jacket. I'm on the small side (5'3" and generally a size 6-8) but hourglass type shape and have a short torso relative to my legs. I'm loving the big blazers, bombers and boxy shaped jackets - on other people. They look awful on me, particularly with the looser silhouette jeans/trousers. I've been looking at this, but can't decide if it's going to date quickly (or is already dated). Do you have any thoughts?
