@Ironfloor269 yes you could definitely wear with Toms. I think most shoes go with a midi dress tbh- a loafer, dad sandal, ankle boot, ballet pump, smart flat... all depending on the style of the dress and the occasion. I've attached some images for styling inspo

@wondabar do you want to dress up? What kind of vibe are you thinking? A jumpsuit sprang to mind as I always find them comfortable and obviously if you're dancing you want to be comfy!

@GnTplease that's a difficult one. How smart do you intend to go? So much of the workwear on offer is black, it is difficult to find stylish options outside of that and then also how bright do you want to go? Some options can then look a bit wedding-y. Couple of different ideas attached. Obviously the Sandro one is black but I'd wear with a cream jacket. Or another option would be a trouser suit but depends if that's your style- like this one from Reiss https://www.reiss.com/style/ST347219/D25831?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIt47fnJGYQIVG-3tCh165gs6EAQYASABEgK8yfDD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds#D25831

I'm thinking kindof workwear but make it a bit sexy? Maybe something a bit more structured and belted and all one colour to avoid the weddingy look. It's such a hard event to dress for, if I was a size 8 with a flat tummy I'd go for a wiggle knee length number, Rachel from suits look...but I've not got the figure for that these days sadly.

GnTplease · 15/02/2023 19:11

Sorry posted to soon. I love reiss in general and that suit is gorgeous but I just wouldn't get the wear out of it to justify the price tag. I think I could do £100-150 tops (sorry should have given you a budget)

FiloPasty · 15/02/2023 19:24

Just found this thread, fabulous!

I would love trainer tips for wide feet

HystericalDinosaur · 15/02/2023 19:52

@frillseeking this is such a great thread, thank you

Could you recommend any long sleeve tops (full length sleeve) for spring that could be worn with skinny jeans or flared jeans when running around after a toddler? Am pear shaped, size 12/14 and always wore dresses pre baby. I like to keep my arms covered and everything feels boring or frumpy at the moment, I think casual long sleeves are quite hard to style?

HystericalDinosaur · 15/02/2023 19:54

Also meant to say - I mean long sleeve shirts/shirts for as the weather gets warmer, not jumpers! Argh wish there was an edit button!

wondabar · 15/02/2023 20:53

@frillseeking thanks so much for getting back to me. I'm worried that if there is too long a queue for the loos, I won't have the time to take the jumpsuit off!

whatadoodledo · 15/02/2023 21:25

Lovely!

frillseeking · 15/02/2023 21:40

@HystericalDinosaur yes agree, long sleeves are definitely quite hard to find unless it's a stripe. Next actually have quite a few on offer. I really like the mix of leopard and stripe on the one I've linked. They have this style in about 7 different prints. The M&S one is obviously a stripe again but I like the colour clash which makes it interesting. And then I really love a slogan sweatshirt so the tshirt is a nice version for spring -again not easy to find.

@frillseeking ah thank you so much for these, never would have thought of them and they're lovely! And on sale too, thank you so much!

frillseeking · 15/02/2023 21:46

@GnTplease I would say a structured fit and flare dress would work as this will hide the tummy area.

https://www.karenmillen.com/structured-crepe-forever-pleat-belted-midi-dress/BKK03446.html?color=130 this is gorgeous but just slightly over the budget

And this is a lovely plain style in a really love fabric- these dresses are well known for being a great fit

@HystericalDinosaur I think I'm going to make a purchase myself! Definitely a gap in my own wardrobe that I didn't realise I had until you asked 😀

GnTplease · 15/02/2023 21:48

Oooh I love the Karen millen one, they often have discount codes and offers so will have a search around. Thank you so much! (You're very good at your job and I've bought a couple of bits you've recommended here)

Ironfloor269 · 15/02/2023 22:16

@frillseeking thank you so much for taking time to put together such a brilliant style inspo board. It's really helpful.

WaitingRoomBoredom · 16/02/2023 11:43

Thanks for recommending the Pretty Dress Company @frillseeking - I hadn't come across that before. I love the Hepburn but wouldn't want a low back for work - has anyone seen anything similar but without the v?

Also do you have any recommendations for where to buy nice natural fabric shirts for casual spring/summer wear? I have to cover up and am trying to re-plan my style

Maighnuad · 16/02/2023 12:38

@frillseeking
Hey sorry for the delay - on the road with work.
I love the 2nd dress. But it would be too warm for the wedding.
My budget is 250.

A wee reminder 53/ 5'0 /8'10 quirky

Thank you so much for your time,

frillseeking · 16/02/2023 15:34

@Maighnuad have a look at the Harlow dress from Kitri. Essentially the same dress but short sleeved and they have it in various gorgeous prints. It is v short on the model but would be more a respectable length foe a wedding for your height

OP posts:
frillseeking · 16/02/2023 22:33

@wondabar fair point! What about a satin bias cut midi and cool tshirt with trainers? Or.. you said it's 90s.. did you want to go for that kind of vibe? As another thought was a mesh top as this covers the arms but v lightweight

OP posts:
frillseeking · 16/02/2023 22:38

@FiloPasty a lot of the New Balance styles are unisex so they tend to be pretty good for wider feet. Nike and converse also offer wider fit styles

Bonnylassie · 16/02/2023 22:45

Can I ask, I have a couple of going out leggings, blank spanx and a sparkly mint velvet number in black, but I don't know what to wear with with them. I'm 5 foot 5 with a bit of a mum tum but otherwise a size 10/12. I love colour and I can stretch to an average budget. Any pointers would be appreciated (loving this thread). Thanks!

FiloPasty · 17/02/2023 08:41

Thanks xx

Maighnuad · 17/02/2023 08:44

Love the Harlow dress thank you !!

frillseeking · 17/02/2023 17:20

@Bonnylassie this mint velvet blouse took my eye this week www.mintvelvet.co.uk/products/willa-print-longline-shirt#images-single-11 that would look gorgeous with a chunky gold necklace and heels with leggings.

I would also style them with with a bright blazer such as the attached zara one for a trendy look.
