Great thread! I’m wondering if you have any ideas for me, all of my friends, myself and my husband are turning 40 this year so I anticipate a wide range of invites for things like nice pub meals, boozy brunches etc. I’m looking for some outfits that will work for someone who is 5ft, size 12, apple-shaped wheelchair user. In an ideal world this would be a mix and match capsule of separates composed of practical trousers/jeans and ‘nice tops’, wearable with flats :) Also, I have very soft, muted, neautral-warm colouring so black tends to be a bit harsh on me but I do wear it frequently on my bottom half. I would a few ideas, thank you 😊

Redleaftea · 05/02/2023 23:10

Can you help with what to wear for old friends girls weekend? Hiring a cottage so a Mix of walks, pubs, lounging at home. I'm size 16, hourglass but with belly, 5' 7", suit blues greens pinks.

frillseeking · 07/02/2023 23:55

@WheelyMom not sure what colours you like/ suit you but I've done a little inspo board. A boucle/ tweed jacket a good piece to invest in as you can dress it up or down and if you wear darker colours on the bottom, this is adds interest to your upper body. For brunch you could wear with a dressy tshirt, jeans and loafers or even trainers and for a smarter look, I'd pair with a smart top and embellished flats to add a bit of sparkle

@Redleaftea I've just been away with friends for a similar weekend. I took the following:

-Jeans, sweatshirt and trainers for journey
-Tracksuit for lounging around at the cottage and walks
-Leggings, tracksuit top and puffer for walks
-Leather leggings, chunky jumper & boots for pub lunch
-Jeans, jumper and trainers for journey home

If you're going when it's a bit warmer you might want to take lighter items. I'd suggest a nice printed midi dress or skirt with jumper and chunky boots

Thank you so much, this is great inspiration! I can definitely use these ideas and tweak a bit to fit my colouring and shape!

Littleguggi · 08/02/2023 21:49

Hi OP I'm loving this thread!

I'm after some advice. Having lived in dresses with tights/ leggings, I've decided they don't suit me anymore.

I would like some trousers/ jeans to wear everyday. I haven't worn jeans for years and years and feel overwhelmed with all the different cuts. I own Boden Richmond trousers which fit well but they are more for work.

Also what shoes do you wear with trousers/ jeans. I own black Chelsea ankle boots, Veja trainers, black suede boots with a mid-heel. I would like some flat shoes but can never find a comfy pair.

I am size 8-10, 5ft 1, hourglass with slight tummy. Thanks!

@Littleguggi I really love a crop jean this season and they look great on a more petite frame. Something like this https://www.arket.com/engbp/women/jeans/product.regular-cropped-stretch-jeans-black.0977619003.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAioifBhAXEiwApzCztvAYcQZu5Hgaud3UUEfT1aOAjY2yykA8Uw9rosiQfMR-cNZhYp35dRoCa5YQAvDD_BwE
They look good with trainers, boots or a heel so they're a great wardrobe staple.
As for vejas, they go with anything really! It depends on what kind of look you want. I've attached some style inspo for you.
Re flat shoes, have you tried a loafer?

Love your style, so many good links and ideas here. I wonder if you can help me... I'm going on a girls trip next month to Dubai and I need some glam outfits. Beach club, bars, that kind of vibe. 30s, size 12/14. Any ideas? Thank you

Littleguggi · 12/02/2023 20:39

Thank you @frillseeking I like those jeans, being crop they will probably be full length on me but I will check them out! Seen some petite jeans at Mint Velvet, will check them out too!

frillseeking · 12/02/2023 20:49

Have a look at the topshop editor petite jean @Littleguggi

@frimmers I'll have a think. There's a bit of a lull in the shops at the moment as they get ready to take delivery of the spring summer stock, normally the last week of feb/ early March in time for the Easter holidays. I did see this which I saved recently (from next.) H&M have had some amazing early pieces but they've sold out already- I'll keep an eye out though

Thank you!

also… is this oversized blazer too baggy?! I can’t seem to find one that works 😔(excuse the mess!)

@dinmin love that! Love the colour and I think it looks great. I'd style with a skinny trouser and strappy sandal to balance proportions and show a little bit of skin to break up the look - see inspo from Rosie HW. Such a chic colour and style though, I'd definitely keep. I'd also say go for a bold gold accessory to compliment the orange and make a real statement 🧡

Great, thanks! I also love it, someone I know had it then I found it in the sale. But wasn’t sure if it’s still too baggy / boxy like various others I tried!

frillseeking · 12/02/2023 22:56

@dinmin it does have that oversized look but the darts give it shape and draw the eye to the waist and the shoulders don't look too bulky either 👌🏻

What a great thread! Thanks OP.
I’m really bored with my look and seeing my teenage daughters have fun with different styles (dark academia is the current one) I am wondering what ‘looks’ there are that might be similar but appropriate for a mum in her 40s and soon 50s as a signature style. I do like the academia looks and also 40s /50s clothing. TIA x

frillseeking · 13/02/2023 11:15

@Lemme I would try adding a nod to the trend into your current look so you're not making too drastic a change as this can be overwhelming. I've added a style inspo board for some ideas. Brands such as Me and Em, Toast and Poetry are good to look at and for the 40s/50s aesthetic, Other Stories and River island often reference these eras in their styling, such as a pussybow blouse, collared jumper or dress etc. I would try a chunky loafer, trench and pussybow blouse for a grown up take on the dark academia trend. I think this is an accessible take on it, it doesn't feel like fancy dress which is important as we get older. For a lovely 50s style dress, have a look at Finery London. They have this gorgeous midi tea dress style in lots of different plain colours and polka dot prints.

Dear OP, will this date horribly because of the oversize chain detail? I fear so, but I love it ….

itsmeagainagain · 13/02/2023 12:10

@frillseeking any tips for a black blazer for pear shape size 14. I know the 'rules' ie not to end at my widest point and to broaden shoulders but can't find the right thing on the hughstreet at the moment - thanks for any help!

juicy0 · 13/02/2023 12:21

@frillseeking please can I ask for your help not with my own wardrobe dilemma but my sons (18)! He really wants a wide legged relaxed look suit for an event he has coming up and I'd love to surprise him with one for his birthday but I'm really struggling. Think Harry Styles/Roman Kemp at the Brits but without the Gucci price tag. Any suggestions hugely appreciated. Thanks x

Maighnuad · 13/02/2023 12:47

Hi Frillseeking ,

I am 53, 5'0 and size 8/10
and have a wedding in June. An apple shape - straight up and down like a sausage roll.
Good legs and boobs just no waist.
I like to be a bit different , quirky even. any suggestions ?

Btw great job here - lots of good advice and things to check out!

frillseeking · 13/02/2023 13:26

@Mumsnut if you really love it then it won't date. For an investment purchase, I always think long and hard about it and think would I still use it if it wasn't in fashion anymore? Am I buying it because it's on trend and everyone else has it or because I truly truly love it. Go into the shop and try it and see how it makes you feel. I also save images on my Pinterest and go back to them to see if I'm still drawn to that particular item. Also, that website is a rental site I believe so why not try it out first?
