Reminisce about clubbing/going out wear from back in the happy/glam house days of 90s/2000s

I was reminiscing about old clothes I used to have and was thinking about my old going out/clubbing wear in 90s/2000s:

  • Karen Millen top - crochet blue/silver/black with long sleeves and quite cropped
  • Karen Millen crochet long top with short sleeves and deep v neck, gold, aqua/turquoise
  • Karen Millen sport quilted mini dress in black with the sport logo down one side
  • DKNY Padded black jacket with logo
  • Karen Millen dark denim sort of material pencil skirt with a diamante strip across top part just below waist/hip
  • Coast draped black top sleeveless top with metal twisted straps
  • Jigsaw sleeveless beige knit top with diamante in sort of diagonal stripes across it
  • Peter Werth (?) they made these skimpy little black or other colour dresses in sort of stretch material.
  • Trousers from Oasis which were denim colour but had silver sparkle over them
  • Karen Millen black sleeveless top with a turquoise sheer back
  • Karen Millen black combat trousers in a sort of shiny/non shiny material
  • D&G Sport short sleeved red shirt in stretch jersey material
  • Karen Millen strappy shoes/sandals with a small heel - really comfy!
  • Dress I got from a shop in Portobello Road, can't think of the brand - sort of navy blue long, sleeveless and cut away/up at the front leg side
  • Karen Millen black embellished halter neck jewelled dress - above the knee or knee length and backless, still have that one!

I did wear loads of other stuff which was not expensive. All sadly gone - I did keep one of the Karen Millen crochet tops but it got broken/torn so I got rid of it! As I was an 8-10 I could fit into this then but not now. I did have sizeable boobs though compared to most of my friends who were tiny bust wise and they gave me a spaghetti strap top for Christmas once, which I wore once to be nice, but it so wasn't me! Grin

Anyone else have any memories of clubbing/going out wear?

I had a red or dead sleeved black top with like a keyhole cut into the front of it I absolutely lived in. Worn with a beige skirt that barely covered my arse and knee-high boots of course.
The obligatory D&G jumper that cost nearly a month‘s rent.
And a Versace crop top which I wore without a bra and had to hold my stomach in at all times wearing.

FMBs!

They're used to be this great shop in Leicester in the Silver Arcade - upstairs. I can't even remember what it was called now. But they used to sell really cute clothes, some of which they made. My favourite 'going out' outfit from when I was 18/19 was from there - it was a dark blue velvet bustier style top and matching miniskirt with buttons down the front. Used to wear it with some chunky silver heels from River Island. I bet if I still had it, it would look really current 🤣

Then had a brief flirtation with hard house and used to wear some really tragic outfits. But I had this yellow reflective padded skirt which I wore the shit out of for months, loved it.

So many crop tops though. I looked great in them back in the day! Not now though 😭

TokyoSushi · 27/10/2022 18:47

All of my stuff was from Morgan or Kookai in a size 6, I absolutely loved it!

Now here I am in my size 14 M&S jeans 🙄

greenbirdsong · 27/10/2022 19:02

Used to get stuff from Bay, Morgan and Kookai.

I remember buying a Kookai dress once, wearing it clubbing and then hanging it up trying to get the smoke smell out so I could return it as I couldn't really afford it! Halloween Blush

Great days.

Cyberdog glow in the dark gear from Camden Market! 😁

PotatoFamily · 27/10/2022 19:07

I used to be a podium dancer in a few London house and garage clubs back in the day and it was all about the tiny crop tops, hot pants and long heeled boots. How I danced in them for hours I will never know!

my favourite dress was from river island and it was a black silk mini slip dress, almost like underwear, but with clasps on the straps like dungarees. They had a habit of popping undone so I’d have to be stitched into it before going out. Oh to be that slim now! I had legs for days and was able to go out bra-less.

Ihateboris · 27/10/2022 19:09

Miss Sixty ultra low rise jeans, short cropped top and red faux fur jacket. Happy days

Ohmygoshposh · 27/10/2022 19:14

Chinese print shiny skin tight pencil skirt from Topshop

Lycra dress with glitter on from Topshop

Big chunky heeled strappy sandals

Stilettos with two dimannte straps - I thought they were sooooo classy

I could have written this!

Oh I loved those shops... sigh. I had a lovely strappy cami style too situ cowl neck which was my boob top I wore with a wonder bra! I'm a crop top or sport bra women now. I had a lovely embellished pencil skirt and healed sandals.

LookdeepintotheParka · 27/10/2022 19:31

Takes me back to my happy place! I loved clubbing and wore much of the same stuff - Kookai. Morgan. River Island and Bay Trading. Also had a couple of Biba tops.

I can remember my fave outfit was a Kookai crop top and moleskin hipsters with platform boots. No idea how it was possible to dance in them for hours as we did😂

QuietNeighbour · 27/10/2022 19:34

I had some white crushed velvet hot pants. I don’t particularly miss the item of clothing but I miss the figure I had that helped my confidence to wear them!

QuietNeighbour · 27/10/2022 19:37

Ooh and a bandage dress from a designer shop (I can’t recall the brand) that used to turn heads. It was very firm hugging so left nothing to the imagination despite covering me from neck to knees 😁

QuietNeighbour · 27/10/2022 19:37

*form hugging

QuietNeighbour · 27/10/2022 19:39

I really loved my patchwork suede mules with platform cork soles.

Cyberdog glow in the dark gear from Camden Market! 😁

I was in Cyberdog yesterday reminiscing with DS hoping he wouldn't want too much

It's all full of tourists taking video and a USB playing music instead of a dj

50plusandfabulous · 27/10/2022 20:24

Oh god kookai! I had a lovely faux leather mini and a black satin backpack from there.
Loved Morgan as well. I’ve got a sheer fitted shirt that is from there and older than my son (24) , last time i tried it i could still get in it just, i used to only have the middle few buttons fastened ( and i suspect I couldn’t fasten any more now!)
Also had a sort of plastic snakeskin trench coat that used to reek after a night out, as you could still smoke inside then.
I was pregnant with my son in 1998 and I attempted to rock the ‘all saints’ look of baggy combats and sheer tops, a couple of them were pregnant at the same time as me.
Great times :)

Does it still have bowel-movement inducing bass?

I used to wear Nike trainers with baggy cords or straight black jeans... Very similar to me now! Can't do the tiny strappy revealing tops any more though.

TokyoSushi · 27/10/2022 20:37

Oh yes, cork soled platform sandals! Sometimes I'd get something from Jane Norman so I could use 'the' carrier bag for my Yr 11 PE kit!

I often also wore a feather boa instead of a coat! Everything smelled of smoke, and almost everybody smoked! My mother had no issue at all with me frequenting the clubs of Liverpool at 15/16 years old, no issue with ID or the like either!

MintChocCornetto · 27/10/2022 20:39

Oh god, feather boas! That brings back memories. So 90s. I had a pink one that used to shed everywhere 🤣

TokyoSushi · 27/10/2022 20:43

Yes! Or dye your skin! This was in about 1996, I think you could get them for £1 from the market! Grin

Whoputtheramintheramalamadingdong · 27/10/2022 20:46

The things I remember most are:

a Johnson's Baddy Powder cropped tee from Afflecks Palace (worn with black mini skirt, knee length socks and platform trainer-shoes)

a short black PVC strapless boob-tube dress from Morgan

short lilac snake print skirt and lace boob-tube from kookai

pretty much everything I wore involved having either my arse or tits (or both) on show! Those were the days, sigh...l

miraveile · 27/10/2022 20:47

I used to wear Jane Norman tops and black tight skirts or dresses from Miss Selfridge. Ah those were the days!

poorbuthappy · 27/10/2022 20:49

1992-1997 raver .
Green velvet converse
Black tights
Daisy duke shorts
Black body suit.

Weekends at our local uni club night then bombing down the M1 to Kings Cross for from 3am onwards.
Great times

SingingSands · 27/10/2022 20:50

I went to a 90s night last weekend. It was epic listening to all the tunes again and got me thinking about what I used to wear.

I had a very simple black slip dress, quite high neck, almost like a halter neck, slit up the side, worn with black heels.

Hologram fabric pencil skirt, black boob tube top trimmed with silver sequins. Black and holograph heels.

Long tie-dye sleeveless dress worn with quite high Diesel platform style mules (which had always shredded my feet by the end of a night).

Flared jeans/trousers with little halter neck tops.

Denim minis and little halter neck tops.

In the early 00s I used to dance in a nightclub on a Friday and Saturday night for some cash in hand and wore tiny hotpants with fishnets, black knee high boots and corset top. Lots of orange foundation, Smokey eye shadow and red lips.

On Friday I wore a green Zara pencil style dress and black converse hi tops. Put my hair in space buns and lashed on the green glitter eyeshadow - and this 43 yr old went clubbing and bloody loved it!
