Reminisce about clubbing/going out wear from back in the happy/glam house days of 90s/2000s

I was reminiscing about old clothes I used to have and was thinking about my old going out/clubbing wear in 90s/2000s:

  • Karen Millen top - crochet blue/silver/black with long sleeves and quite cropped
  • Karen Millen crochet long top with short sleeves and deep v neck, gold, aqua/turquoise
  • Karen Millen sport quilted mini dress in black with the sport logo down one side
  • DKNY Padded black jacket with logo
  • Karen Millen dark denim sort of material pencil skirt with a diamante strip across top part just below waist/hip
  • Coast draped black top sleeveless top with metal twisted straps
  • Jigsaw sleeveless beige knit top with diamante in sort of diagonal stripes across it
  • Peter Werth (?) they made these skimpy little black or other colour dresses in sort of stretch material.
  • Trousers from Oasis which were denim colour but had silver sparkle over them
  • Karen Millen black sleeveless top with a turquoise sheer back
  • Karen Millen black combat trousers in a sort of shiny/non shiny material
  • D&G Sport short sleeved red shirt in stretch jersey material
  • Karen Millen strappy shoes/sandals with a small heel - really comfy!
  • Dress I got from a shop in Portobello Road, can't think of the brand - sort of navy blue long, sleeveless and cut away/up at the front leg side
  • Karen Millen black embellished halter neck jewelled dress - above the knee or knee length and backless, still have that one!

I did wear loads of other stuff which was not expensive. All sadly gone - I did keep one of the Karen Millen crochet tops but it got broken/torn so I got rid of it! As I was an 8-10 I could fit into this then but not now. I did have sizeable boobs though compared to most of my friends who were tiny bust wise and they gave me a spaghetti strap top for Christmas once, which I wore once to be nice, but it so wasn't me! Grin

Anyone else have any memories of clubbing/going out wear?

Who was the label who did the tiny dresses, Peter something?

I've just remembered a Katherine Hamnett body that my boyfriend bought me. It was brown with silver diamante angel wings and 'high legged'. I used to wear it with a black rubber mini skirt and actually thought I was a supermodel in i 😂

BobDear · 28/10/2022 10:18

Hyper Hyper for when you were flush. Ken Market for when you were ok. Camden Market (or charity shops) when you were a bit skint (apart from Rokit in Camden which was one of the first vintage shops and therefore £££)

LoveLabradors · 28/10/2022 10:39

Had forgotten all about Giant and Vicky Martin!

Zooeyzo · 28/10/2022 12:32

I used to wear really tiny mini skirts with backless crop type of tops. I just remember I had lots of tiny tiny clothes. All the alcohol and ahem other things must have kept me warm.
Oh and the glitter gel from superdrugs all over my shoulders and face. Used to love to wear that at Christmas new years parties. It was all kookai or morgan tops and bags back then.

TokyoSushi · 28/10/2022 12:51

Yes all clothes absolutely tiny, but as a teenager, I was also absolutely tiny to match! Yes to the body glitter and little stars from Superdrug. I also had a red chanel lipstick that I saved for weeks for from my little pub waitressing job. Absolutely brilliant times!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 28/10/2022 13:47

I'm not sure I was absolutely tiny but I was at least a size 10 (8 and a half stone). I had larger breasts though - could only get 32 C back then - no or rare narrow backs in 90s/2000s.

All the dancing and other things wink definitely kept me slim!

My best mate saved up for Chanel lipstick (dark red?) and matching nail polish.

I liked nail polish but couldn't be faffed with painting it and one time I did, my white cat walked near me smudged my nails got bright red polish on him! I used to use a clear red Nars one sometimes though.

No gel manicures back then and I didn't fancy acrylics.

I just re-bought my old coat from those days on eBay. Black fitted suede with a massive fur collar. Very Westwood.. It’s a bit ‘extra’ for the school run but it reminds me of good times feeling on top of the world.. or you know, on drugs.

kittykarate · 28/10/2022 13:58

I was into hard house and trance back then so it was cyberdog tops , baggy combats with many pockets or mini skirt and fluffy boots. Strawberri Peach in Afflecks was the other place to get your clothing from - my friend bought this bikini + lycra chaps thing from there that always got her noticed.

Zooeyzo · 28/10/2022 14:08

@GonnaGetGoingReturns same I had big boobs but the rest of me was skinny. I remember all my friends were the same I think we walked a lot more then. I remember walking a couple of miles in Central London to get a train and nobody thought it was too far.
Nail polish was blue green purple from etam 😆

Laquila · 28/10/2022 15:03

Ooh what an evocative thread! I was wedded to tight black lycra-mix stuff from Afflecks, River Island and Oasis/Warehouse, ideally with slits up the side and some sort of diamante situation going on. I was also a fan of an asymetric/one-shoulder sleeve, which was a bugger when you got too hot on one side and too cold on the other. I vividly remember a pair of sequinned strappy heeled sandals from River Island, and also tiny formal rucksacks in clubs 🤣 happy bloody days!!

RobertaFirmino · 28/10/2022 15:12

Short skirts, massive Bunker boots and a variety of little t-shirts with things like the Mitsubishi/Ferrari logos on them.

Iamthewombat · 28/10/2022 17:01

I had some great little outfits from Wit and Wisdom (Topshop used to sell it, independent label). They did Vivienne Westwood style corsets with matching pencil skirts and nice little high necked backless tps, ditto. Those corsets made your chest look amazing. You literally could not fail to pull in them.

Yep that was more raving gear. I hardly ever went to raves though my brother did. I used to go clubbing rather than raving (in the days of proper raves).

I did have a fetching pair of blue/white striped Komodo trousers which my brother was very impressed with when he saw them Grin.

@kittykarate - we also used to do hard house/techno and trance. So various different club nights.

Oh nice! I wouldn't fit into anything from back then.

I recall my nana bought me a really nice padded velvet jacket which was just long enough to cover my bum I think - I saw it, she bought it for me!

I had a lovely sort of velvet (not velvet just looked that way) dress with sort of silver stars/dandelions all over it - parents got me that for Christmas.

Had a nice Jigsaw sleeveless v neck vest with glitter on it.

Some of the stuff in my OP - I didn't wear clubbing - too hot - but still wore it to bars.

We did used to go to lots of places.

I used to work in Kensington High Street and I recall one time Morgan had a £10 everything sale and I just bought everything there!

Our Aussie mate who moved to London was shocked at how cheap Morgan and Kookai was over here compared to Australia!

I rarely went to Ken Market but a friend of ours who was tiny used to buy e.g. cargo trousers from Gap Kids as they fitted her and were far cheaper.

Portobello Road on a Saturday was a good hunting ground for clubbing wear too.

FanniesFlaps · 28/10/2022 18:22

Having the figure (and not appreciating it) to wear all of the above if I wanted to.

This is a great thread. I loved Red or Dead, Kookai, Morgan, DKNY, Karen Millen. Got an amazing electric blue mini dress at Afflecks Palace which I can't believe I ever wore.
