Reminisce about clubbing/going out wear from back in the happy/glam house days of 90s/2000s

I was reminiscing about old clothes I used to have and was thinking about my old going out/clubbing wear in 90s/2000s:

  • Karen Millen top - crochet blue/silver/black with long sleeves and quite cropped
  • Karen Millen crochet long top with short sleeves and deep v neck, gold, aqua/turquoise
  • Karen Millen sport quilted mini dress in black with the sport logo down one side
  • DKNY Padded black jacket with logo
  • Karen Millen dark denim sort of material pencil skirt with a diamante strip across top part just below waist/hip
  • Coast draped black top sleeveless top with metal twisted straps
  • Jigsaw sleeveless beige knit top with diamante in sort of diagonal stripes across it
  • Peter Werth (?) they made these skimpy little black or other colour dresses in sort of stretch material.
  • Trousers from Oasis which were denim colour but had silver sparkle over them
  • Karen Millen black sleeveless top with a turquoise sheer back
  • Karen Millen black combat trousers in a sort of shiny/non shiny material
  • D&G Sport short sleeved red shirt in stretch jersey material
  • Karen Millen strappy shoes/sandals with a small heel - really comfy!
  • Dress I got from a shop in Portobello Road, can't think of the brand - sort of navy blue long, sleeveless and cut away/up at the front leg side
  • Karen Millen black embellished halter neck jewelled dress - above the knee or knee length and backless, still have that one!

I did wear loads of other stuff which was not expensive. All sadly gone - I did keep one of the Karen Millen crochet tops but it got broken/torn so I got rid of it! As I was an 8-10 I could fit into this then but not now. I did have sizeable boobs though compared to most of my friends who were tiny bust wise and they gave me a spaghetti strap top for Christmas once, which I wore once to be nice, but it so wasn't me! Grin

Anyone else have any memories of clubbing/going out wear?

I had a giant mini skirt that I loved.

Some of my mini then had a slit up the side to be even more revealing

Mohair jumper

Platform boots

Loved all the A-lines

Shiny silver thigh length jacket

Butterfly clips in my hair

LoveLabradors · 27/10/2022 21:12

@LookdeepintotheParka i had kookai moleskin hipsters! Loved kookai and Morgan. They were obscenely tiny dresses ha!

WH52 · 27/10/2022 21:26

Late 00s - a pink sequinned strappy top which was from Exhibit (I think), a couple of corset-style tops from River Island, a gorgeous green paisley print dress from New Look, a pink pencil dress with a black belt which served no purpose, black heels from Topshop. Like other PP, I don’t miss most of these clothes but I miss my size 8-10 figure and flat tummy, which becoming a mum did away with completely haha

JessieEssex · 27/10/2022 21:32

I've still got a few bits from my clubbing heyday in the mid-late 90s. A particular favourite is the Giant tiny black strappy dress with a cut out above the boobs. It was so minuscule I had to wear hot pants underneath for podium dancing. Wore it with platform heels and a massive fake fur coat. Also still have my Vicky Martin teeny tiny top which is basically a triangle of fabric with a tie at the neck and back. Also an awesome denim boob tube with matching mini skirt from Morgan.
I started with scruffy warehouse clubbing down South but I really came into my own when I went to uni in Sheffield and discovered happy house and dressing up for a night out!
Happy days.

I had that Miss Selfridge tie dye vest top with the heart on it and I would give anything to have it back 😍

I often wore a cropped fitted T-shirt with the Batman logo on it and black shorts or huge voluminous cargo pants and a Wonderbra, pale pink or red gazelles and pigtails. Soooo many compartments to stash your gear in.

For dressier I had a gold brocade TopShop mini skirt with a beautiful Chinese print, and went with a bodysuit and a black velvet jacket which I remember buying in River Island in 1997. The body suit is long gone, but I still have the others (plus a couple of amazing Kate Moss at TopShop beaded and sequinned dresses, although they came later). I could never walk in heels but back then I used to try.

Go back a bit further and it was the Joe Bloggs tshirt, yinyang hoodie and huge flares (I was never very glam) 😀

There was a shop in Birmingham called Disorder. I lived in their clubwear for nights (weekends) out!

BobDear · 27/10/2022 21:54

West London here and was raving at house clubs from around '87 (aged 17) so that period was all dungarees and 100% Mambo Tshirts as well as Indian 'ethnic' little crop tops and cut of shorts with kickers or reebok high tops. Before that (so age 15/16) I was at Mud Club/Astoria type clubs, so lots of Boy/Vivienne Westwood/Kensington Market and Hyper Hyper. My favourite of that era was a tartan Vivienne Westwood mini kilt with a white Pam Hogg body and black cowboy boots with silver toe caps (like George Michael in the Faith video).

@Ohsugarhoneyicetea I
Cyberdog glow in the dark gear from Camden Market! 😁

Im back in ifor Evans hall in Camden in 1999 reading your post. My friend had one of those cyberdog t shirts and he piled literally every night he wore it.

BeReet · 27/10/2022 21:59

I had shiny, silver spray on jeans from C&A and a collection of incredibly tight t-shirts with a variety of logos but I was still am a goth in those days so my wardrobe was (and remains) mostly black. The stuff back then was incredibly tight and revealing even though I was covered up, big 18-hole Docs, long black swishy coat, ribbons, fishnets etc etc. I was so slim with amazing bosoms 🤣 I wish I had appreciated how good I actually looked before my body was ravaged by motherhood.

Yessss @JessieEssex you just jogged the name I was trying to think of. Giant. I used to buy their corset dresses and tiny skirts - which I used to shorten even more so I had to wear hot pants under them for podium dancing too!

Went to uni in Leeds and clubbed at Basics and Vague. I worked for Love to be as a door whore/DJ looker after/marketing all through my final year and ran a club night at the warehouse in my second year.

Happy days. The corn exchange in Leeds was full of great shops for clubbera.

I also got some great outfits from speed queen in Leeds. Including my favourite- a sheer tiny black shirt with sex and for fuck typed all over it. Worn with a Giant mini and knee high boots and thigh high tights (thick stockings basically).

I also used to pair it in London at the Cross and pretty much every other proper house club you can name with skin tight leather look leggings and kick ass heels.

I stopped traffic a couple of times. <<happy sigh>>

I've still got the skirt and shirt as a memento- I could take a photo - anyone else still got any of theirs?

Shannith · 27/10/2022 22:20

And @JessieEssex I swear I had that same Giant corset cut out dress - mine was blue. I loved loved that dress l. It was so ummm "supportive" that if I wore my normal wonderbra I'd have been arrested.

HedyPrism · 27/10/2022 22:28

A pvc strapless dress from Pilot.
A blue dress made of Swimsuit fabric from giant.
A mesh tiger print shirt from Miss Selfridge.

Cyberdog glow in the dark gear from Camden Market! 😁

Me too!!

LookdeepintotheParka · 27/10/2022 22:46

Ah yes I forgot about Pilot!!

So many of these shops have gone...

Tassen · 28/10/2022 00:06

@MintChocCornetto was it The Wardrobe as that was upstairs in Siver Arcade?

Tassen · 28/10/2022 00:06

Silver not Siver!

I don't think so but I do remember that shop. It was a vintage place wasnt it? The one I'm thinking of was more 'going out' clothes. I've been doing some googlefu to try and work it out - came across this Facebook page Silver Arcade

I think the place I was thinking of was Cuba - I recognise the logo in the photo. But everything on that page is nostalgia. I got my first tattoo in inkhouse tattoos and bought some really cool stuff from well gosh. Remember all those shops.

Tassen · 28/10/2022 00:55

Now Cuba definitely rings a bell now you mention it.

Yes The Wardrobe was more vintage inspired & still is.

Pieceofpurplesky · 28/10/2022 02:02

I used to look like a bruise as I only ever wore purple and black. Afflecks palace was my second home. Smoky eyes, dark lips and lace and leather! If we were off to the hacienda would be in v baggy jeans and tie die with hi top trainers. My top would be purple and black tie die!

Mercurial123 · 28/10/2022 08:05

I had a green glitter mini sports dress from Red or Dead. Also a nylon long tube skirt from John Paul Gaultier with a Buddha/Asian design. I remember a drag queen flicked Ash on it by "accident " in Heaven and left a hole I was not happy.

reallynow1 · 28/10/2022 08:50

Shortest skirt I could find, knee high boots and a sheer shirt with wonder bra underneath....... Crushed velvet trousers with a childs tots TV tshirt (therefore way too small, tummy skimming etc) then there was the glitter! I used to make the guys in the uni halls block next to us spray glitter all over the air so I could walk through it 😂😂😂. And lots of little clips in my hair.
Finally, can't forget a little rucksack from Claire accessories. This was late 90s.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 28/10/2022 09:54

Coming back with more memories.

I had the Lancome mascara, body and face glitter and tiny hearts/stars to go on face and body.

Lots of Morgan and Kookai tops made out of that stretch fabric in various colours from leopard print top to turquoise.

My best friend from Coventry (she lived in London) liked Vivienne Westwood trousers and had clothes from Owen Owen but she also made her own clothes sometimes and had a silver fabric mini skirt!

Yes to Cyber Dog in Camden Market. There was a clubwear shop in Seven Dials too.

I had a navy and silver midi dress which was cut away up the front of the legs (to about knee length?) from a shop in Portobello Road.

Navy velvet platform shoes.

@Shannith - don't mention the Cross! My best mate's boyfriend worked at MTV so got us all guest VIP entry into every Friday/Saturday night at the Cross.

I walked past where Turnmills used to be about 3 years ago and almost had a little cry as all my Friday nights (the Gallery) were spent there and a few Saturdays too. I recall my best mate saying, "I've got to take you to the Gallery you'll love it". We went down there and bam, every Friday night after was spent there! One of our other best mates, Keith said the dealing area downstairs was like a sweet shop!

Yes, to feather boas in all sorts of colours, I had lilac and light pink.

Angel perfume and there was an Iceberg one too.
