What do you think of this coat? I love it, DD hates it

Hi all, was looking for something of a shorter length but covering the bum, for autumn - mild winter. Ordered this, and love it so much! It is warm, it drapes beautifully, the sleeves are a bit more narrow towards the wrist so keep the warmth in. I just love wearing it. It's 81% wool, 19% polyamide.
Now, for clothing I listen to my DD15's advice, she is usually spot on. And she is not at all keen. What do you think?

I like it

MarmiteCoriander · 12/10/2022 23:06

If you are happy OP and think it suits your shape- that is all that matters.

To me, its frumpy and shapeless! The model is likely size 6 and 6ft, but even on her it looks drab. Might look amazing on you though.

ScarlettnotOHara · 12/10/2022 23:07

You’re the one who has to wear it so if you like it keep it. I am not sure that is the most flattering photo of it as it looks quite military . Probably looks better in real life .

Dotcheck · 12/10/2022 23:07

She’ll be borrowing it….

It’s nice

Afterfire · 12/10/2022 23:08

I like it but I suspect your dd doesn’t because it’s not boxy enough, or shackety enough - both things sought after by teens and 20s (my dd is 19). But that’s okay, who wants to dress like their Dd anyway?! 😁

I am size 8-10 and quite tall so similar fit to the model, I guess. Frumpy meaning too baggy? Or not stylish? I was after something comfortable and not fitted.

I like it.

Luredbyapomegranate · 12/10/2022 23:11

I think if you are pretty thin and not overly short it could work. But I can see it has sack of potatoes potential on the wrong person. Do you have an honest friend you could ask?

It looks a bit shit on the model but I think that’s the weird styling with the camel trousers and the brassy earrings, rather than the cost is making her look bad..

OnTheRoll · 12/10/2022 23:11

I am hourglass so like the belt detail. And I wear it with heels (because I tend to wear them in winter boots anyway).

It's not frumpy or shapeless. Far from it.

OnTheRoll · 12/10/2022 23:14

Also like the tassel detailing on the back

I think it is classy and elegant. Happy wearing

Its straight up and down on the model though! From her shoulder to ankle!!! No waist, boobs or shape!!

OP- if you are hourglass, then the belt will certainly add shape and as said, if you like it and are happy, that is all that matters.

Judging by the state of most of the 15 year old girls round here, I'd rather take style advice from my cat.

FWIW, I really like it

mathanxiety · 12/10/2022 23:23

It will look completely different if you open the belt - more shapeless, like a men's shirt.

Also, you'll have to be careful not to pull the belt too tight because it will stick out.

It's a shacket with a belt, basically.

I would buy either a shacket or a belted peacoat instead of this because it's too much of a style mishmash.

Tickledpickled · 12/10/2022 23:25

Not keen on it! But the joy of personal style is that it’s personal! If you love it and it makes you feel good, then that’s all the permission you need to wear it

Oh dear I didn't notice that. I'm not keen on the tassels. The jacket without them would be very stylish.

I don't agree it's a mishmash. It looks nice belted or unbelted and it's a jacket but the tassels put me off.

catandcoffee · 12/10/2022 23:34

Just been catapulted back to 1970s looking at that photo. 😀

TeeBee · 12/10/2022 23:42

I don't think there's anything to love or hate about it. It's a bit...well...just a coat. Nothing exciting about it. If you like it, what does it matter what anyone else thinks? Your opinion on it is quite enough.

mondaytosunday · 12/10/2022 23:51

The model isn't doing it any favours standing like that but it's a lovely coat.

Quackpot · 12/10/2022 23:55

I think it looks like a nanna coat

Trisolaris · 12/10/2022 23:55

I think there are much nicer coats out there to suit hourglass shape and with detail on the back.

SarahWoodruff · 13/10/2022 00:00

It's the sort of garment which doesn't have much hanger appeal and in s styled rather unattractively in the pic, but may look lovely e.g. with more fitted trousers. More to the point it may well feel lovely, which is at least as important.

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/10/2022 00:10

£259 is too much.

AIIyMcBeal · 13/10/2022 00:12

I liked it until I saw the tassels, that’s a hard pass from me 😂
