What do you think of this coat? I love it, DD hates it

Hi all, was looking for something of a shorter length but covering the bum, for autumn - mild winter. Ordered this, and love it so much! It is warm, it drapes beautifully, the sleeves are a bit more narrow towards the wrist so keep the warmth in. I just love wearing it. It's 81% wool, 19% polyamide.
Now, for clothing I listen to my DD15's advice, she is usually spot on. And she is not at all keen. What do you think?

£259 is too much.

^This^

Mummysharkdoodoodoodoodoodoo · 13/10/2022 00:24

I like it although not crazy on the tassels. But I’d wear it.

BuggersMuddle · 13/10/2022 00:28

Based on the sale photos I don't like. Looks frumpy and shapeless on the model who presumably has a great figure for showing this stuff off. If it looks good on you though, the have at it - it's not terrible, but just seems a bit 'meh',

Charlize43 · 13/10/2022 00:56

I'm just not feeling it. Are you going for a butch, military look?

I prefer a simple cut, classic lines, good tailoring, understated elegance. I think it's the shapeless, belted, baggyness that I don't like. Sorry.

Charlize43 · 13/10/2022 01:04

This is what I had in mind. It's Karen Millen, same price range.

thedoorsandwindows · 13/10/2022 07:36

It looks cheap to me, the material looks thin, it’s shapeless and the proportions are off. The tassels are appalling.

thedoorsandwindows · 13/10/2022 07:39

Having said that, if it looks better in real life/on you, and you love it, then obviously keep it and enjoy it!

I’m not a tassley sort of person but appreciate I may be in the minority.

Magenta82 · 13/10/2022 07:43

I don't like it, shapeless, the fabric looks cheap in the photos and the tassels are horrible. I think for the money you could do a lot better.

Starbucksbasic123 · 13/10/2022 07:45

I think it looks really elegant and the tassels make it different. I usually always dislike the items on these sorts of posts but I think maje particularly on sale is always a good bet, more timeless than fashion. I think you’ll really enjoy wearing it with boots this winter

I think it looks like a nanna coat

Maybe she's a nanna

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 13/10/2022 09:18

The fabric doesn't look cheap. If anything it looks like the same sort of soft sheen you get on Max Mara coats- and they certainly aren't cheap nor look cheap.

The Karen Millen coat is underwhelming, as well as being a different style. You could wear the OP's coats over dresses or skirts of any length. The Karen Millen coat could only be worn over dresses or skirts the same length or shorter.

It's the tassels which would put me off.

How rude...nannas have style I'll have you know..FWIW I wouldn't wear it.

Floydthebarber · 13/10/2022 09:35

It's quite simple, in a good way. I can see why your dd does not like it as it is rather 'grown up', but again, in a good way! I think it would look really nice undone as well as buttoned up.

StapFooterin · 13/10/2022 09:40

It is, in my view, unobjectionable. I'd probably wear it, but if you saw me IRL that might not inspire you with confidence. Keep it if you like it. Ignore the teen. I gave my mum some terrible style advice when I was 15.

Dillwyninthebath · 13/10/2022 09:42

Yeah sorry, I wouldn't be taking fashion advice from teenagers these days 😂 it looks really lovely.

Hardly rude 🤣 just looks like the sort of thing my mum's mates wear. No different from saying 'mum coat' or 'teen coat' or whatever. You need to work on your self esteem, it was an opinion not a personal attack.

waltzingparrot · 13/10/2022 09:46

What teenager wants a warm coat 😂

SpanishSteps123Ole · 13/10/2022 09:49

I don't think it looks worth the price just doesn't look the best quality and looks like it could from riverisland/newlook/primark. From the front it's completely inoffensive but the fringe from the back is not to my taste. It's too cowboy-tiger king for my taste.

SatinHeart · 13/10/2022 09:51

I'm not normally a fan of shorter length coats in general (Love that Karen Millen one pp posted!) but I think it's nice OP. Glad to hear it's warm because it doesn't look like it would be from the photo.

W00p · 13/10/2022 09:56

It's fine, it's just a black jacket, nothing to write home about.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 13/10/2022 09:58

The tassels are the only thing l like. Reminds me of my Goth tassel jacket when l was a young.

W00p · 13/10/2022 09:59

Oh I didn't see the tassels. It is one pair of cowboy boots away from a hoe down.

pistachi0nuts · 13/10/2022 10:02

It’s cool and chic

QuietNeighbour · 13/10/2022 10:02

Not over keen but it’s alright. It seems to be throwing too many features into the mix and yet somehow still looks ordinary! I would prefer a pea coat. I’m not keen on the flappy pockets or the curved hem. As an hourglass myself I related to the desire for a belt but in reality those sort of tie belts never feel comfortable on a coat (I’d rather it buckled than tied so it sits flat)
