What do you think of this coat? I love it, DD hates it

Hi all, was looking for something of a shorter length but covering the bum, for autumn - mild winter. Ordered this, and love it so much! It is warm, it drapes beautifully, the sleeves are a bit more narrow towards the wrist so keep the warmth in. I just love wearing it. It's 81% wool, 19% polyamide.
Now, for clothing I listen to my DD15's advice, she is usually spot on. And she is not at all keen. What do you think?

I like it , it looks minimal and classy and would go with everything - and to be honest (no offence to your DD) but I’ve seen what teenage girls are wearing and it’s all oversized shapeless 90s throw backs so I really wouldn’t pay attention to what a teen thought of my clothes.

It would be minimal and classy without the tassels. I don't understand why the designer thought they were a good idea.

I can't see anything to 'like' about it tbh

"nanna coat' is silly and unhelpful. It's suggesting there is some sort of style applicable to grandmothers.

Your explanation doesn't make it better- no one on here has a clue what your mother's mates wear

It's exactly the fucking same as saying frumpy or dowdy or whatever and I don't see you jumping on anyone else about their opinions.

God.

Get over yourself.

"nanna's coat" is not remotely the same. Things like school uniform, army uniform can be frumpy or dowdy, regardless of the age or status of the wearer.

Did you really need that explained to you?

Have you really got nothing better to do than keyboard warrior at me?

A simple question about a jacket decends into bickering and acrimony. Never change, Mumsnet, never change.

And style and beauty used to be my happy (ish) place.

I'm sorry, I don't normally let people get to me. Tired and grumpy tonight.

ZandathePanda · 13/10/2022 23:34

Do you have pets? It’s the kind of fabric that is like a magnet to pet hairs. My cat would be launching on to your back with those tassels!

ZandathePanda · 13/10/2022 23:37

..that’s not me being acrimonious - just practical. The jacket itself looks great.

dontgobaconmyheart · 14/10/2022 00:13

It's quite inoffensive really.

I assume DD isn't a fan because of the shape, if you undid the buttons and took away the waist tie it's pretty much a shacket, which presumably she would like.

There always seems to be a heavy focus on here of adult women concerned about going against the grain of teenage fashion opinions as though they are the final say on it and what's cool. They know what's cool if you're 15 and I can't say at 35 that what teenagers like holds much sway other than a general curious interest in fashion. I'd rather my friends my age complimented me or what I wore felt current for my peers than it did my 16 year old niece.

I am hourglass so like the belt detail. And I wear it with heels (because I tend to wear them in winter boots anyway).

It’s totally about HOW you wear it, and this makes it sound fab
