Speaking of Catherine of Braganza and Charles II and coronations, almost all the regalia had to be made new for Charles II because Cromwell had disposed of it, melted it down, etc. I think the spoon that holds the oil for anointing is the only thing that survived. (Charles was not married yet for his coronation, but Catherine as a Catholic would probably not been able to participate anyway.)

I join the chorus bewailing lounge suits and such at the coronation. We want some bling and sparkle. Although Max and Wax did manage to look stunning and impressive at their investiture, which was even more slimmed down that this coronation is likely to be.

I feel like we need to communicate our strong feelings about wanting a Big and Blingy Coronation to palace officials. I don't suppose they monitor our threads - though they ought to. As pp said, all the jewels are already in the vaults, so it's not as if anything is being bought new, and I agree that it would all give us a much-needed lift.

Looking at Wax’s cape thinking a) it’s a lovely colour and b) is there any occasion where I might be able to make something like that work?!

I am a long-time lurker on these threads (which are great) but just coming on to agree with you about the Coronation. We want:
The gold coach
Proper robes & coronets for peers
Royal ladies absolutely dripping in diamonds
A stirring rendition of Zadok the Priest
Ginormous flower arrangements
Thousands of soldiers in dress uniform

The idea of morning dress - let alone ghastly lounge suits - is just hideous. It won't save any money, and one thing we are good at is pageantry.

I can deal with the slimmed down thing but come on - morning suits and bling at the absolute least! Not lounge suits and hats and [shudder] coat dresses, please. Come on Charlie, do it for us 🙏

It looks like she's trying to back away from him at the same time as shaking hands! Don't worry @NiqueNique, no danger of me ever reading the DM comments (or the DM itself, come to that!). Though I do sometimes look at their photos of royal events as they usually do a lot - though I notice their captions are sometimes inaccurate, misnaming tiaras or muddling up minor royals.

@MotherofPearl I use it to look at photos of RF/events and also glean news or rundowns on plans for things like weddings/funerals/coronations as it’s the easiest source for me! But the quality of information is certainly sketchy at times and captions are often shocking as you said...

Yes, I always feel we could do a much better job than the DM with royal photo captions!

According to the DM, Camilla won't be wearing the Queen Mother's crown in May due to the controversy over the diamond....in the name of diplomatic relations, I suggest they take it off and give it to us instead.

Also, they've suggested she might wear Queen Victoria's coronet, but I'm a bit concerned they might mean the one I nobbled a couple of weeks ago on our previous thread, and I might have plans to wear it on the 6th. One, it's food shop day so I might need it for the Tesco run and two, it's a friend's 40th so you know, evening party dress attire required.

It would be a shame if there was a tiara clash for sure @frugalkitty. Have you thought about them possibly also needing the State Coach on the 6th? I assume you'd planned on using it for the food shop, and of course you'll need it for your friend's 40th, so it's going to be tricky if they want to use it. Coach share maybe? Or maybe you could offer them your car for the day?

I know, Mother I don't think they've really thought it through well enough. Supposing they want the sceptre as well???

@frugalkitty good points - one certainly can’t go to Tesco without a suitable tiara/diadem/crown/coronet. Also, how could I have been so silly! I know exactly the kind of occasion where I might be able to wear Wax’s Coronation cape...

@Maireas please could I have the above as it’s just the thing to round off my coronation day outfit! Ta very much in advance. If @paradyning doesn't want it I might add Max’s emerald egg to my collection as it’d be perfect for the day as well.

Called into a charity shop this morning, came away with a little silver bow brooch. Slippery slope 🙈
