Evening Royal Style fans!
I hope we can have some fabulous winter fashion and tiara events!

Thanks for the details, @AdaColeman - that's haute couture pricey! As you say, the cut of skirt means that it doesn't hang well. I agree that a pleated skirt may have been better.

Oh Ada - if that's haute couture that skirt is a disgrace.
I'd be wanting my money back.
Perhaps though it's just how it was photographed. 🤞

AdaColeman · 26/10/2022 17:45

I know Eloise! Mathilde's dress was bespoke, so we can't know the price, but a similar dress in the ready to wear line is about £4500.

Ive just had a little look at the Fortuny pleated dresses@AdaColeman , they are exquisite. I’d like to see Kate in one, I think she’d wear it well. I’m very impressed with your knowledge there, is your job related to design in some way? 🙂

My feeling is that Ada works in jewellery design as her brooch knowledge is legion!

I agree those dresses are stunning, for some reason I had heard about them before and couldn’t remember where, but only just realised it was in the 90s TV series The House of Elliott about two dress designers in the 1920s.

MotherofPearl · 26/10/2022 21:28

Just been down a Fortuny pleated dresses rabbit-hole. They are so beautiful, especially the way they fall. I wish I had occasion to wear something like that.

Mathilde in a further example of Extreme Matching. I think she rather suits that style of hat, and I certainly salute her commitment to colour co-ordination.

I'm afraid I don't like this look on Mathilde, the cut of the dress really isn't flattering. She's tall and slim, but it just cuts across the wrong areas. Touch of the Princess Grace with the turban!

I love Princess Anne, she always looks smart but I don’t think she’s very into clothes. She’s amazing and is probably one of those women who can fit into clothes she’s had 25 years! She always scrubs up very well at big functions etc 😃
I think she’s very much like the late Queen as she’s got her own hairstyle she likes and sticks with it.

She's been pictured in outfits that are more than 25years old!

She's well known for her re-wears, here's a whole article about them, including one worn every decade from 1970s to 2010s.

I think she quite enjoys clothes but on her own terms, she can be quite a brave dresser, much more so than Kate.

Is that what happens when you leave fertiliser on your dress??

Maireas · 26/10/2022 22:17

Great article. Some of those re-wears are 35+ years! Anne has always enjoyed fashion and has made some good choices. I really like the yellow dress and the two tone coat. When she got married in 1973 she ordered some outfits from Susan Small that are clearly still going strong!
The longevity of her clothes is down to cost, no doubt, but credit to her for maintaining a fairly steady weight!

@JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon thank you so much for posting that, wow Princess Anne looks so glam in some of those outfits,I think there was only one I wasn’t keen on a multi coloured dress. It doesn’t surprise me at all she rewears outfits she just seems so sensible and practical.

Serenster · 27/10/2022 09:42

One of my favourite Anne throwbacks - at the state visit of Juan Carlos and Sofia to the Uk in 1986 (bad picture as it’s a screen cap from the grainy tv coverage), and then again at the state visit of Felipe and Leticia in 2017. Thirty one years later - exactly the same dress and tiara combination! 😀

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 27/10/2022 10:43

@Serenster wow Anne looks amazing!
@Maireas I take it all back that Anne isn’t that into clothes lol, I think the problem for me was in the 70s I was too young to be interested and by the time the 80s came along Diana had arrived and it felt like no one got a look in, as she seemed to always be in the news or magazines, I think Fergie also got a lot of coverage, not as much and definitely not as positive, I think they unfairly compared her to Diana and let’s face it not all of the 80s fashions were flattering. I think at times they were quite cruel to Fergie. One of my husbands friends met her in the 90s and said no photo did her justice.

Maireas · 27/10/2022 10:50

I think Anne isn't swayed by "trends", but I think she's interested in style. I'm guessing her attitude is - if it's still wearable, she'll wear it!

I was pleased to see that Mathilde had abandoned Armani, and was wearing Belgian 🇧🇪 🇧🇪 🇧🇪 designer Dries Van Noten for her last day in Lithuania.

She had a busy and active day, including visits to community kitchens and school concerts so the soft drape of the mole grey dress worked well I thought.
I liked the scattered flower pattern of the fabric, and that the yellow was echoed in Mathilde's Fabienne Delvigne hat.

Northernlurker · 27/10/2022 14:25

Princess Anne looks to have that green bag with her in Uganda. And a whacking sovereign necklace.

It seems that Harry's "tell it all" autobiography is called 'Spare'.

I expect Camilla will be buying chamomile tea in bulk to keep Charlie calm!

That is a fab rewear, lovely dress too

Is that seriously the title ? Surely that’s a wind up 😃

KillingMeDeftly · 27/10/2022 16:51

It's hilarious, Harry is basically trolling the U.K.! I'm sure the book won't be anywhere near as controversial as people hope think it will be but it will certainly keep some Mumsnetters (on other threads that is, not this one) occupied well into January.

And that's all I'll say, as we stick to clothes on this thread!

gluenotsoup · 27/10/2022 17:23

It’s a great photo of Harry on the front cover though! I don’t know if I’ll read it yet.

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 27/10/2022 17:38

@AdaColeman apologies! Just seen it. Apparently it was his nickname in the family.
