Hello all my wonderfully fragrant friends,

It's time for a shiny new thread! 😊 Perfect timing for autumn too. 🍂🎃🍂

Newbies are most definitely welcome. Come and discuss your Scent Of The Day (SOTD), old favourites, new infatuations, the best dupes and scents of any price point. We are very friendly! 😊

What an interesting debate. Personally, I think current mainstream releases are actually more similar to each other than they are different (ie fruity, excessively gourmand, and excessively sweet) They really are quite same-y and just like copies of each other. I don't like the style, so tend to avoid them. Hence my interest in niche, but also the classics of perfumery.

I, too, have worn perfume almost everyday of my life since I was 12 or 13 (past couple of weeks excepted, as I feel absolutely awful) - I feel undressed if I don't. I think that more people wear fragrance than don't, but because the volume of perfume has been dialled down in the last few years, we don't get the huge sillage trails we used to twenty years ago, so we don't notice other's perfumes as much. I remember being in school and smelling a teacher's perfume long before I ever saw them, or following a trail of scent down long corridors at hospitals etc. That hardly ever happens now. People are also now much more conscious of not overspraying. So, it is hard to tell what people are wearing, unless you're in really close proximity to them.

SOTD is Ambre Sultan. Have spent the evening tucked up on the sofa watching the new Vera. ❄️

I now feel almost like a heathen, yet my love for an exuberant fruity floral remains unabashed! However, I'm certainly curious about non-high street perfumes, they've simply not been very accessible for me previously.

SOTN is Prada Amber - not a fruity floral but (was) most definitely mainstream/high-street

Fruity floral are my nightmare, along with almond, coconut and aquatic scents 🤢
As you can imagine, the high street holds no interest for me and hasn't for some time!
I do quite like some gourmands though just not sickly sweet ones.
And sadly fruit scent does not sit well on my skin. It goes very sour.
I tend to like boozy gourmands like 4160tuesdays captured By Candlelight and killian angels share.

AprilLady · 16/01/2023 08:48

@whatausername you are not alone, I like fruity florals too, as long as they are not excessively sweet. I do find a lot of the high street ones pretty similar and unremarkable though. In my view, Parfums De Marly’s Delina is as popular as it is for good reason - to me it is fruity floral done right. I have one of the flankers - Delina La Rosee - which I thoroughly enjoy wearing, though more for spring and summer than now.

SOTD: Tauer L’ADDM

CorneliaStreet · 16/01/2023 11:23

I don’t mind fruity florals, though some of them can be a bit sickly. I struggle most with the really strong jasmine/sweet perfumes, I find them too dominant and headache inducing. Jasmine can also smell really gross to my nose - I think I must pick up indolic notes a bit too well (this is not a good thing!).

The designer house I like the most is Hermes. They seem to do their own thing and have some lovely perfumes like the Jardin series which aren’t like everything else on the market. I also like Maison Margiela - By the Fireplace, Jazz Club, Lazy Sunday Morning, Coffee Break etc (I know @Chevyimpala67 hates that last one 😂).

I've been lurking in the corner of this thread for ages and was inspired to buy some samples from 4160Tuesdays.
I tried Crikey! Coconut Caramel today, and - if I say so myself - I smell lovely :)

Thank you for inspiring me!

Hello, I am so behind on the thread - I am doing dry-ish January (late starter due to long holiday) so have been having out over there! SOTD YSL Black Opium. It’s so cold!

ChamberLink · 17/01/2023 22:39

@littlelid I really love it! It's a warm, spicy woody scent that makes me feel very grown up & elegant every time I wear it.
I don't think it lasts on my skin as long as some other scents but I can always smell it from my tops / scarves. I have lots of other beautiful perfumes but am wearing this one a lot

Paco Rabanne Olympea is a salty vanilla, which is much nicer than it sounds.
