Ankle wellingtons

I gave my lovely ankle rubber boots to my friend on a whim, when she admired them. No regrets...she's lovely...but I need to replace them. I had mine for years, so out of touch with what's good. Nothing pink, sparkly or flimsy.
Cost is a factor, not cheapest, but not ridiculously expensive.
I want something that will last a few years. Recommendations please........

I've got some Hunter gloss ankle wellies that are lovely. Got them discounted on ASOS.

I saw these in M and S the other day, and they looked pretty sturdy.

TK Maxx usually stock Hunter wellies at this time of year.

@MsPrism the Tretorn look good, is the gusset at the ankle elastic or rubber? The rubber gusset has split on my Joules ones so looking for a good pair.

I'm afraid I can't use the 'g' word <faints> but it is elasticated. Rather cleverly the fur inside is cut where the elastic is to allow it to stretch. I love them much more than is healthy 😄

I was going to suggest Fitflops too.
I haven't bought them myself though.

@MsPrism thank you, looks a lovely bit of elastic :) yeah I don't think I would have got away with that word in the office, there would have been lots of cringing going on. I am going to put them on my Christmas lis.

@MsPrism I'm loving those Tretorn boots with the fluffy lining. How is the sizing?

I have the Barbour biker ones. They are really comfortable and fine in mud etc but I bought them to wear in the rain and they are really slippy on pavements. Dangerously so.

@happygertie what is the sizing like? I've been eyeing up a pair of Merry People's for a while.

@Cluckycluck Another poster said true to size. I like the look of the merry people ones too, think I might treat myself to a nice bright pair for the garden. Or the Tretorn in black or green. I think the fancy colour is going to win 😃

I would say true to size, I think they run a 1/2 size bigger for thick socks

I’ve just sent some of those Tretorn boots back because they were too tight … maybe I’ve made an error and they would have loosened up as the fur flattens?

MsPrism have yours loosened up would you say? And are yours the Eva Winter style?

@AnnieSnap have you got them yet? Comfy? I was going to trawl through all the recommendations and choose some this eve. I've just bought some fur lined snow boot type from Next but still want something waterproof for school runs.

I have the M&S ones. Great so far on a few muddy dog walks. They are quite loose around the ankle compared to other boots I have and are easy to get on and off. They might suit people who want a looser ankle boot.

Thank you. They are fabulous. My only issue is that my socks sink down when I walk in them so I think I need some longer and tighter socks. But they are SO COMFORTABLE and I was so thrilled it rained yesterday and I had an excuse to wear them.

@minipie I ordered the Tretorn boots in two sizes and sent back my usual size as too small. I am wondering if the (bigger) size ones that I kept will get too loose as the fur flattens but think if so I shall buy a fur insole.
