Ankle wellingtons

I gave my lovely ankle rubber boots to my friend on a whim, when she admired them. No regrets...she's lovely...but I need to replace them. I had mine for years, so out of touch with what's good. Nothing pink, sparkly or flimsy.
Cost is a factor, not cheapest, but not ridiculously expensive.
I want something that will last a few years. Recommendations please........

Joules do them.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/09/2022 20:29

I got some Joules ones last year, but they don't feel like great quality. I only wanted them for the odd muddy walk, but think you'll want something better if you're looking for frequent, long-term use.

GettingStuffed · 28/09/2022 20:29

Try m&m direct they've a few pairs, I like the crocs pair but they're only 3 or 4s

CheeseRadio · 28/09/2022 20:33

I recently bought some from Accessorize, which I'm very happy with. I have narrow feet though, so if you're after a wide fit, they may not be right for you.

Turmerictolly · 28/09/2022 20:35

Marks and Spencer have them.

Not the cheapest though...

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/09/2022 20:40

I don't how long lasting they are, but they saw me through lists winter and are still going strong , despite being barely off my feet - Matalan. Soooooo comfy, waterproof, and only £12. Can get in black and khaki as well more "interesting" colours/patterns.

Gribbit987 · 28/09/2022 21:04

My mum had joules ones and they were pretty but slippery in wet conditions. She actually ended up binning them. She felt they were so dangerous she didn’t want to give to charity and make them someone else’s potential accident.

I got her Hunter Chelsea boots instead and she loves them. They often run promotions/reductions on certain colourways if you’re not in a hurry. There’s a permanent offer of 10% off if you sign up for emails.

I mostly wear long hunters but I’ve just got short Barbours as a bit of a change. They were really good value and very comfy. Mine have neon tartan from Asos (which I realise isn’t your cup of tea) but they do loads of different designs or simply plain ones. Very good in muddy fields 😀

I’ve had a pair of fleece lined joules welibobs, they were gifted over 5 years ago and are worn regularly for gardening and garden pottering, and I love them!

Thistle72 · 28/09/2022 21:10

I’ve recently purchased the Barbour ankle welly’s I’m loving them. Great on my dog walks. Mine are black.

whatshouldIdo2022 · 28/09/2022 21:13

I just got the storm chaser ones from seasalt, they're fur lined and really cosy, easy to slip on and off too. £50

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 28/09/2022 21:21

My partner bought me the Hunter ankle ones which look nice and are comfy. Not sure on the cost.

ghostofadog · 28/09/2022 21:22

Ah, funny! Just today I was walking the dog on short wet grass in my long wellies and thinking what I really need is some little wellies just up to my ankle. I didn't even know such a thing existed then this thread popped up 😀. Thank you!

I've heard Joules are bad quality; thank you for confirming.

Thanks, I'll look at the Hunters, though since the company was sold, I know the quality isn't as good...I have an old pair of Hunter wellies, which have been brilliant. Will also look at Barbours.
I knew Joules were bad quality, didn't know they were slippery, thanks for the warning! Very decent of your mother not to pass on the problem to someone else. Last thing I want is to go flying......

They are lovely.....especially in yellow....but a little too much for my budget. Perfect otherwise!

Mine are Evercreatures and they are ridiculously comfy, I'd wear them as every day boots if I could! And thinking about it, they are probably around 10 years old now as I bought them while I was in my last job. Honestly - they look as good as new still. They are these ones

OldTinHat · 29/09/2022 00:57

Mole Country Stores! If you have one nearby? They have a lot of different ones and normally reduced.

I've also got the Barbour ones in black. Very comfy! Think they were about £50, bought them from the Next website.

Lessofallthisunpleasantness · 29/09/2022 02:19

Joules don't last. I bought a pair of wellies from there a few years ago and they sprung a leak pretty quickly.

I've looked at their site, they sell Regatta; are they any good?
I need info on brands, especially longevity, rather than retailers.

I have the Hunter playboots, which I love...BUT...

If you haven't bought Hunter boots recently, be warned that they no longer manufacture in the UK, and the quality (but not the price) has gone very much downhill.

My first Hunters (bought ~15 years ago) lasted getting on for a decade. Since then, I have had three pairs of long wellies break within 24 months (the last two after about 14 and 6 months respectively), and the playboots break too. All in different places (side seam, back seam, top of wellie where foot creases), so they are all over poor quality.

I've given up with the long boots and gone to Barbour, which are less stylish but might last longer.

I love the playboots so will get another pair and hope. If you do go Hunter, make sure you buy directly from them, as that way you get a 2-year guarantee (which, to be fair, they are very good at honouring - I've had boots replaced easily).

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 29/09/2022 10:45

I promise I'm by on commission with Matalan, but I do think theirs are very good. I wore these virtually every day last autumn, winter and into spring, and they're still going strong.

Do they still sell them @GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal ?
