Ankle wellingtons

I gave my lovely ankle rubber boots to my friend on a whim, when she admired them. No regrets...she's lovely...but I need to replace them. I had mine for years, so out of touch with what's good. Nothing pink, sparkly or flimsy.
Cost is a factor, not cheapest, but not ridiculously expensive.
I want something that will last a few years. Recommendations please........

Yes, and they have some mid-length ones now too. I've been debating a brown pair.

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 29/09/2022 12:08

Excellent, thank you! Will get a pair for rainy school runs.

Muck Boots Women's Muckster Ii Ankle Wellington Boots

I have these and they are so comfortable. They have shock-absorbing insoles and a breathable air mesh lining. Honestly I could live in them, they are easily the comfiest boots I've ever worn.

lannistunut · 29/09/2022 12:11

I got some in m&s £25

I promise I'm by on commission with Matalan, but I do think theirs are very good. I wore these virtually every day last autumn, winter and into spring, and they're still going strong.

They look good, but I couldn't see them on the Matalan website.

I've definitely seen them in store recently, but you're right, I can only them in khaki (or sparkly Hmm) on the website.

They do have the mid-length version available in black, slightly more expensive at £27.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 29/09/2022 16:34

No, they have got them online in black after all, look: www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2836975_c101/black-chelsea-welly-boots-black

I've heard Joules are bad quality; thank you for confirming.

I’ve got some Joules ones which are lined and really comfy, however they are a nightmare in wet or icy conditions. They are so slippery I’m not able to wear them.

Little Miss Muffet boots according to Jackie Goodman (FND).

Another vote for these. They do come up small though.

I have the Kin John Lewis ones, they are perfect

Florrieboo · 17/10/2022 19:22

I have the Merry People ones and they are so comfortable they are worth every penny.

FictionalCharacter · 17/10/2022 19:27

I got mine in a local garden centre - plain but decent quality and not expensive. I do like the look of those Seasalt ones though.

Isabelle70 · 17/10/2022 22:00

@Florrieboo how is the fit on the merry boot?

BookishKitten · 18/10/2022 11:47

I have a very destructive gait, any pair of boots or shoes I wear doesn’t last more than 2 seasons at a stretch BUT
i have found that these Clark’s ankle boots are really solidly put together and are comfortable as well and they come in a wide fit in case you want to wear extra warm socks in the winter. The boot around the ankle is not too tight nor too wide and the little loop at the back is actually functional rather than merely decorative as happens with so many ankle wellington boots.
i think I paid £75 for mine but different sizes cost differently on Amazon.
A very happy customer here.

Totally true to size, I am a UK5 and wear a 38 in these and they are perfect.

FallingLeaves11 · 19/10/2022 20:17

Joules or Hunter, but be aware you need hunter socks. Tried Barbour, crap.

theemmadilemma · 19/10/2022 20:54

I have the ankle Barbour and second them as very comfortable.

ChuckMater · 19/10/2022 20:55

I have some from regatta and I love them

chalkyc2 · 20/10/2022 08:08

Fit flop have added ankle wellies to their range - expensive but insanely comfortable...

MsPrism · 20/10/2022 18:00

I have some tretorns with fluffy lining. Quite expensive but I got them cheaper online. They are really comfy and have a good grip on the wet grass on dog walks. I love them so much I wear them all the time - gorgeous.

I've just see that their children's ones go up to size 38

I've found the thing about ankle wellies is getting your foot in with the thicker socks you need. I had a (temporary) health problem which meant I couldn't easily raise my leg to arch my foot, so cast about for solutions). A lower-set top edge is handy, and you can get in and out of them standing, but often the edges are cheaply-made, without a properly firm rim IFYSWIM.

I'm a hanging on to a $10 pair I bought four years ago, from the local cheap/remaindered/fashion faux pas shoe shop. Nowhere near Barbour quality but they are leopardskin patterned. Grin

AlwaysLatte · 20/10/2022 23:19

If you get joules Wellibobs make sure you keep them out of the sun. I put mine in the welly stand in the porch and the rubber just deteriorated.
