Knee high boots-dated?

Feckinlego · 25/09/2022 17:35

It's turned quite autumnal here today, saw a lady wearing black knee boots with a small heel with black leggings/jeans. It looked so dated! I would mourn the loss of my knee boots with below knee dresses. Are these boots just dated now or is there an up to date way to style them?

I would like to know the answer? I suspect with jeans / leggings it’s very dated, however I may consider them with a knee length skirt. I have 2 leather pairs that are beautiful and want to wear them!

BigWoollyJumpers · 25/09/2022 17:48

Was that me?

Who cares what's dated or not. In two/three/four years time they will be back in fashion again. I have boots from years ago, short, tall, brown, black. In my opinion, they just need to be comfy. My winter wardrobe is basically skinny jeans, long boots, and oversized jumpers, and I love it.

DennySaid · 25/09/2022 17:48

I’ve ordered a couple of pairs today. With the intention of wearing with midis/midaxis and minis. Wouldn’t have considered until recently but they seem to be making a big reappearance. I guess, as ever, styling is all.

Just dress to your personal style. Real style never dates.

FrankTheThunderbird · 25/09/2022 17:52

Does it matter? I love my knee high boots. I live in them in winter over skinny jeans.

RiftGibbon · 25/09/2022 17:52

I couldn't care less. If something is comfortable, in my price range, and I like it, that's pretty much all I need to consider.

I need some new winter boots (non leather, biker boots style) but given that both BHS and Debenhams are no more, I'm not sure where I can find any I can afford.

I'm wearing high heeled knee high boots with knitted midi dresses for Autumn/Winter

My DD has just bought some very clumpy platform knee high boots to wear with mini skirts/dresses. She is 23 and not frumpy

HTH 😃

User19876 · 25/09/2022 18:11

Knee boots over skinnies is a dated look now apparently but to me pairing them with midi skirts still looks current.

minticecreamisjustok · 25/09/2022 18:13

I've just ordered flat back knee high boots, I'll be wearing them with some cosy jumper dresses

Knee high boots were all over the catwalks for autumn/winter this year so they're actually very much on trend.

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/09/2022 18:17

Knee high boots are great. Probably why people have been wearing them for centuries.
will be wearing mine soon. Couldn’t give a monkey’s whether they’re “in” or not.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/09/2022 18:17

I wore knee high heeled boots with culottes the other day and got lots of nice comments. Channeling my inner 1970s.

Stichintimesavesstapling · 25/09/2022 18:19

Just thinking back to the 90s and they were in fashion. I people having canvas ones with laces up the front. So that means they are fashionable.

MarshaBradyo · 25/09/2022 18:21

I think they can still look great

CaveMum · 25/09/2022 18:52

I live in knee high boots from October to March pretty much. I have 5 pairs (black heeled, dark brown heeled, tan flat, dark green suede heeled and dark purple suede heeled) and I’ll be damned if I’m giving them up!

nokitchen · 25/09/2022 19:24

I've just ordered some emerald green suede ones.

SheWoreYellow · 25/09/2022 19:25

Yes to with midi dresses/skirts.

Nolosomi · 25/09/2022 19:41

I bought these this autumn and they look great with skinnies & a short skirt!

Why do people respond on Style & Beauty with comments like 'I wear what I want', and (without saying it out loud ) 'only idiots follow fashion'.
This isn't the place for you. Get back over to AIBU.

Flat leather knee highs will never go out of fashion; they are timeless.
Heeled is a whole other story and very much depends on the style.
My personal hell is a kitten heel. What boots do you have?

Well quite. I was born in 1959. I can't actually remember any year of my life I've not owned a pair of knee length boots. (Although disclaimer, thinking about it I haven't in the last 3 years but as all my dresses are longer than knee length my 3 pairs of over the knee boots might just as well be knee length)

Style isn't the same as fashion.

Does it matter

If you like them, wear them

But when the OP is asking - on Mumsnet of all places - whether or not something is dated (a.k.a. is it ok if I wear this, bunch of random strangers?) then they pretty much by definition have no interest in fashion and would be better off if they simply didn't care.

Iirc Kate Moss popularised knee boots over jeans circa 2004. If you care about any of that that's up to you.

superflyin · 25/09/2022 19:51

@TheLassWiADelicateAir quite.
But when you read the rest of the comments from those posters 'style' doesn't feature either. And they are proud of it, and that is fine and dandy but offers little to the conversation.
