Knee high boots-dated?

It's turned quite autumnal here today, saw a lady wearing black knee boots with a small heel with black leggings/jeans. It looked so dated! I would mourn the loss of my knee boots with below knee dresses. Are these boots just dated now or is there an up to date way to style them?

If you look at the Harper's Bazar link you would not think heels were dated, all of the articles on boots have mostly heeled boots in them! Quite skinny heels at that, just when MN has decreed heels are out...

I won't be giving mine up

Same, I can't believe grown women actually give a toss. Wear whats comfortable.

To me there's a huge difference between "is this dress nice/ suitable for/ what do I wear to/what's the best for my shape?" discussions and the " is x dated" type- particularly when X is such a basic staple as knee length boots.

I cannot remember there ever being a winter when shops were not full of knee length boots - same applies to ballet flats and kitten heeled/ low heeled courts. All of these are either "so dated" or "back in " all without ever going away or ever not being worn.

On this thread there have been confident statements that ankle boots and dresses are both in and dated- same with knee boots (despite Harper's Bazaar saying they are in)

For me items of clothing which I find ugly or unflattering (I'm looking at you clompy block heels, platform soles, puffa jackets jump suits and jeans) are never going to stop looking ugly or unflattering just because they are "in".

Neat little 1950s dresses, hippy dippy Cabbages and Roses/ Laura Ashley style dresses, neat tailored jackets ( but never blazers), laced-up Lancashire mill lass ankle boots, ballet flats, Audrey Hepburn low stilletos, Victorian riding coats, Harris tweed and proper felt hats are never going to stop being exactly what I want to wear just because someone has decreed they are "dated"

This thread really is a bit silly tbh.

'Ankle boots are dated'
'No, knee high boots are dated'
'No, only heeled knee high boots are dated'
'No, only flat high boots are dated'

Honestly. Wear what you want - you can always update allegedly 'dated' boots with an allegedly 'not dated' coat - or not. It doesn't matter.

I have many, many pairs of boots. I'll wear all of them across the course of Autumn/Winter in various ways, with various things and for various occasions. Because the beauty of clothes is that you can follow fashion when and if it suits - and ignore it when you want to, too.

In the real world, people choose clothes to suit their tastes, style and lifestyle and don't need to be entirely enslaved to whatever some geezer at Gucci (or whatever) dictates one should be wearing.

@TheLassWiADelicateAir I need to know what a 'Proper felt hat' is please, in case I desire one in my life!

Mine are all from Fabhatrix. This is only a tiny selection of their stock. None of mine are there but the styles called Buchanan and Elspeth (in black) are similar.

Knee high boots are too general a category to have been called “dated”. It’s always been possible to style a nice outfit with knee highs and look current, it’s just that the dominant style the last few years has been ankle boots. Now knee highs are being “pushed” again and maybe they’ll become the dominant style.

As with anything, it just depends on the style of boot. If you buy a very current pair of knee high boots (say Paris Texas crocodile stiletto boots) and wear them with a current jumper (say an oversized stripe turtleneck) and skinny jeans tucked in, you are not going to look dated.

Just depends on the styling.

This.

I bet you look great! I...would not.

Mollysocks · 27/09/2022 12:02

No I don’t think so. Some young Instagram/YouTube fashion influencers/bloggers have are wearing black knee highs.

Lydia Tomlinson being one and she knows what she’s on about.

High knee boots are very fashionable, but not with leggings or skinny jeans right now.
