Knee high boots-dated?

Feckinlego · 25/09/2022 17:35

It's turned quite autumnal here today, saw a lady wearing black knee boots with a small heel with black leggings/jeans. It looked so dated! I would mourn the loss of my knee boots with below knee dresses. Are these boots just dated now or is there an up to date way to style them?

Knee high boots are 'in' again this season and there are definitely more in the shops. As PP said not with skinnies as they are out anyway but with skirts, dresses and actually, leggings.

I've just ordered some emerald green suede ones.

Oooooh they sound fab, where from?

Actually I lied. I don’t like the Gucci riding boots.

I liked them but not the Isabel Marant ones- but isn't it great when you can say of something that expensive "nah, don't like it"

@babbi Have a look a fairfax and favor Smile

Having spent a small fortune on Fairfax & Favor knee high boots recently, I really hope they’re not dated!

MistyRock · 26/09/2022 07:05

I think I'm stuck in early 2000s as I love knee highs, jeans and cosy jumpers and I also love ankle boots and ditsy dresses! 😂 But I do appreciate that both these looks are a bit dated but what can I say, I like what I like.

Same, I'm going out for drinks this week and was planning my outfit of skinnies and burgundy knee high boots, now I'm not sure!

Go for it. It sounds like a beautiful combo to me. One of my favourite outfits was suede knee highs and a burgundy jumper dress. I love winter clothes so much.

dontgobaconmyheart · 26/09/2022 10:22

I can't remember the last time I saw anyone in any. I don't dislike the look with a dress or skirt but it isn't something I'd wear personally, and definitely not any with a heel.

WowStarsWow · 26/09/2022 10:33

Knee high boots are too general a category to have been called “dated”. It’s always been possible to style a nice outfit with knee highs and look current, it’s just that the dominant style the last few years has been ankle boots. Now knee highs are being “pushed” again and maybe they’ll become the dominant style.

As with anything, it just depends on the style of boot. If you buy a very current pair of knee high boots (say Paris Texas crocodile stiletto boots) and wear them with a current jumper (say an oversized stripe turtleneck) and skinny jeans tucked in, you are not going to look dated.

Just depends on the styling.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 26/09/2022 10:46

I'm old enough to have worn them over jeans, leggings etc and at one point (2000s?) I really liked knee high boots a lot and had them in various colourways, dark brown velvet, browns striped etc. I even had some Bjorn Borg black military ones from a sample sale of theirs.

I think the most important thing to think about is how you'll wear them.

I tended to wear mine with skinny jeans and also skirts but more tweed/wool type skirts and then wool/cashmere coloured v neck sweaters. Now I'd probably do similar but with midi skirts, or silky/satiny dresses/blouses.

blockpavingismynightmare · 26/09/2022 11:02

I have several pairs of knee high boots. Two are high heeled and the rest are flat with one pair being slouch.
It all depends upon how you are wearing them whether you make them look dated or not - it isn't the boots it's the look IMHO
Knee high boots under a longer length dress or skirt are perfect. Not so much with a mini skirt but that's just my opinion only.
If I wear leggings or similar I wear flat boots or short boots. I would not wear leggings with high heeled boots but I would with flat heeled boots as this is my preferred choice for dog walking which occupies most of my time

Worldgonecrazy · 26/09/2022 11:07

The perfect knee high will add inches to leg length. Love them!

MarpleFan · 26/09/2022 11:11

You will prize my skinny jean/knee high boot combo out of my cold dead hands. I will be living in them for the foreseeable future.

caffelattetogo · 26/09/2022 11:16

Skinny jeans are a bit dated but with a dress or skirt and tights they look fine.

NewYorkLassie · 26/09/2022 11:16

So, so practical, and can be stylish. I find them super useful for work in the winter. If it’s raining I can actually get to work without getting soaked and be client meeting ready.

But it does take a certain style of outfit to pull it off. I go for either a wool/tweed skirt in a shirt A line style or a dress there at least knee length and preferably midi. The look dated with pencil skirts in my view.

BeetFeet · 26/09/2022 11:18

I think a flat leather boot would look stylish - I think a heel dates the look.

Herejustforthisone · 26/09/2022 16:46

Have you not realised that the fashions of the nineties and early 2000s are back? She’s bang on trend I expect. If that is what matters to you, seeing as you judged her for her choices, you should probably take notes.

boobot1 · 26/09/2022 16:48

BigWoollyJumpers · 25/09/2022 17:48

Was that me?

Who cares what's dated or not. In two/three/four years time they will be back in fashion again. I have boots from years ago, short, tall, brown, black. In my opinion, they just need to be comfy. My winter wardrobe is basically skinny jeans, long boots, and oversized jumpers, and I love it.

Same, I can't believe grown women actually give a toss. Wear whats comfortable.

Justonedayatatime11 · 26/09/2022 17:05

Stylish or otherwise, I live in various different colours of my Fairfax and Favor knee high boots. Who cares what anyone else thinks?

Echobelly · 26/09/2022 17:06

I've notice all boots in shops at the moment seem to be over knee or mid calf, which is annoying, as I like my knee boots and I'm sticking to them whatever anyone thinks!

youcantry · 26/09/2022 17:06

I have a few pairs, two black, one green (vintage) and one brown. I'm looking forward to wearing them.

I think they're on trend

Circleoflife2057 · 26/09/2022 17:15

@TheLassWiADelicateAir I know they have them, but not any like my current pair. The ones in the shops now are either heeled, slouchy, over the knee or mid calf, wrong colour, wrong material etc. I just want plain black suede flat knee boots!
