Knee high boots-dated?

Feckinlego · 25/09/2022 17:35

It's turned quite autumnal here today, saw a lady wearing black knee boots with a small heel with black leggings/jeans. It looked so dated! I would mourn the loss of my knee boots with below knee dresses. Are these boots just dated now or is there an up to date way to style them?

Why do people respond on Style & Beauty with comments like 'I wear what I want', and (without saying it out loud ) 'only idiots follow fashion'.
This isn't the place for you. Get back over to AIBU.

Style doesn’t equal fashion.
Someone can have style but not be up to date with current fashion or on trend.
Are you this rude in real life?

JenniferWooley · 25/09/2022 19:54

@CaveMum & @nokitchen I'm going to need pics/links for the green boots they sound right up my street!

OP I wear mine all the time over autumn & winter & couldn't care less if they're fashionable - they're comfy & I think they look good with whatever outfit I decide to wear them with.

Mistletow · 25/09/2022 19:56

Knee high boots with midi skirts is dated imo . An ankle boot much better with a midi , or a shorter skirt, tights and knee high boots. Suppose its down to the personal style you like

How is it rude to point out that most of the comments on here are completely unhelpful to the OP?

@TheLassWiADelicateAir quite.
But when you read the rest of the comments from those posters 'style' doesn't feature either. And they are proud of it, and that is fine and dandy but offers little to the conversation.

What's "in" matters nothing to me; style matters a lot, and as someone who regularly gets compliments from work colleagues, friends and complete strangers about what I'm wearing, I think I must be doing the "style" part fairly well.

Most of the comments have been helpful, apart from yours. PolarPolly27's was particularly helpful.

Knee boots styled with skinny jeans is dated - but they are still lovely with skirts and dresses.

if you are short, midi / below the knee skirts with ankle boots can make you look very short, something about two lines across your lower leg. So a knee boot with the top of the boot covered by the skirt/dress hem is much more flattering.

Agreed.

I've been wearing knee high boots for years.

Last year I got a pair of very clumpy ones. They are fab and go with skirts, jeans and dresses. Zara is stuffed with them this year.

In my opinion they never go out of style. Smile

Circleoflife2057 · 25/09/2022 20:07

I have some flat knee high boots that I've worn to death the past few winters. I love them, they are comfy and keep my legs lovely and warm as I can wear long socks with them! I just can't find anything similar in the shops so I will have to keep wearing these old tired pair! I wish they would come back in fashion.

Sorry, but where are you looking?

Jones the Bookmaker, Boden, Hobbs, Cos, Duo, ASOS, Next, just about anywhere that sells footwear are heaving with flat, knee high boots.

I think ankle boots and dresses is a bit dated now, hence the return of knee high boots. Worn with midi or maxi dresses/skirts so that there’s no gap between boot and hem.

"The return of knee high boots?"

In which year, since say 1960, were knee high boots not available in every shop, in every price range?

And ankle boots and dresses can and do look very stylish, depending on the dress and the boots.

declutteringmymind · 25/09/2022 20:29

Agree with PP. wearing them under maxis/midis will update the look but it depends on the whole look. A preppy or country look is timeless with knee highs over leggings and a wool blazer.

MrsPear · 25/09/2022 20:35

But it can be practical if they are flat knee country boots. If you are like me and stomping through fields and woods on the school run in winter and it’s wet I don’t want to ruin trousers.

However, fashionable on a night out look, no personally it makes me think of my 20s and that was 20 years ago.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/09/2022 20:39

You've made me think about my escoffion now. I think I'll put it back, I was beginning to think perhaps it is a little dated. 🤔

nokitchen · 25/09/2022 20:41

@babbi Have a look a fairfax and favor Smile

Oooh where from please?

CheersAlexa · 25/09/2022 21:06

If you’re talking about fashion, ankle boots and midi dresses are definitely out, midaxi with long boots (knee/over knee) more current.

schmalex · 25/09/2022 21:38

Knee boots are very on trend at the moment, but not over jeans.
I'm planning on buying a pair to wear with midi dresses.

CaveMum · 25/09/2022 22:05

@JenniferWooley @babbi stupid me mistyped, they’re not suede but rather stretch pull on boots. The colour is called “Seaweed” and they’re from Boden but they’re last season and not available anymore.

Good one !

IvorCutler · 25/09/2022 23:09

The Harper’s bazaar link is fab. I’d wear any of those.

I agree it can be a very dated look though (I’m thinking of those emulating an old Kate Middleton look).

I agree with pps in that sticking to your own style will stand you in good steed. Absolute confidence and conviction always looks good, and I know this is style and beauty.

IvorCutler · 25/09/2022 23:10

Actually I lied. I don’t like the Gucci riding boots.
