Frumpy or ok? Photo added

I bought this dress last summer and despite really liking it have only worn it once. As a larger lady I can sometimes struggle to feel like I look nice. DP says it’s ‘fine’ and 16 year old DS says it’s like something his grandma would wear! Is it awful? I know there are probably other things which are more flattering but I like the weight, the material and the length for certain occasions, so as long as it’s not awful I’ll carry on wearing it! 😂

Thanks ladies!

I really like it, it suits you.

Prettypennies · 29/08/2022 16:40

I love it, great colours!

RuthW · 29/08/2022 16:44

It's lovely but a winter dress to me. With tights and boots it will be lovely. Loose the sandals.

Westfacing · 29/08/2022 16:46

It's not frumpy as such, but the sleeves are too full and too long, sort of dragging you down!

As for your son... Grin

Borderterriorist · 29/08/2022 16:47

I'm a similar shape, bigger on top and find round high necks are pretty unflattering, if they are lower I can put on a really chunky statement necklace and it takes the eye away from my bust and makes me look less broad shouldered. tbh I'm not a fan of the colour but without seeing your face it may be very flattering for you. I'd also try shortening the sleeves. I'm a bit older than you and have come to the conclusion that I'd rather wear the same thing every day if it makes me feel great than wear something different that doesn't, so why not mess around with it to see if it gives you more of a wow feeling and if not, sell it on ebay as lots of people really love it! Lovely hair BTW

Gingerwarthog · 29/08/2022 16:50

Great look and you've styled it well with the sandals, cool hair and nails. Well done. 5 stars. Would be happy to wear this dress.

blisstwins · 29/08/2022 16:54

I like it a lot—think the color and the pas and everything else are lovely. I think a v neck would make it amazing if that were an easy alteration, but otherwise, it is versatile and flattering.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2022 17:03

I don't think a belt would work.

Manekinek0 · 29/08/2022 17:08

I think it looks frumpy. I agree with a pp that it is because of the neckline/long sleeve/length combo. I do think it would look nice with boots and a leather jacket in the winter.

dutysuite · 29/08/2022 17:09

I’d break it up by wearing a big belt

grey12 · 29/08/2022 17:09

Needs something, a big necklace or belt 😉

TheOGCCL · 29/08/2022 17:10

I think it needs a bib necklace to break up the chest area OR a belt, again to break up the expanse of fabric. Shortening the sleeves would also help as it would show off your wrists.

Annieisalright · 29/08/2022 17:11

I'm with your son on this one

MissMaple82 · 29/08/2022 17:14

Beautiful

dalisdrippingclock · 29/08/2022 17:18

I think that the neckline does you no favours, the rest of it is great though. I wonder if you could add a long necklace to direct the eye down? Actually, I have a dress like this that has a button at the back and I wear it back to front with the button open and it gives a little V Neck.

FriendOrFrump · 29/08/2022 17:22

Thanks again for all the opinions! I’m going to keep wearing it. I like it and as lots of you have said it’s ok (or better) that’s enough for me! I used to have little to zero self confidence but 2 years ago decided it was time to make some changes to make me feel better. I put everything on the weight but had been trying for years unsuccessfully ti so much about it so decided to change my hair, work on my skin and really tweak my make up by watching tutorials etc and I’ve honestly never felt better than I do now. I still need to lose lots of weight but can do that now slowly and surely whilst still feeling that I look at least ‘fine’ 😂 in the meantime. For anyone interested and especially for those with the positive hair comments (thank you!) here’s a couple of photos of the journey (hate that word!) my hair has been in over the last 2.5 years. I used to bleach it at home as you can see and it was practically all gone through breakage and falling out. First pic was jan 2020 and last was last week. It’s given me such a boost and as I said I finally have some self confidence at this ripe old age! We women can be so hard on ourselves can’t we?

It's the sleeve + sandal that's off I think.

I'd wear it with trainers or DMs.

Jjones8 · 29/08/2022 18:05

Add a chunky leather belt and a good hand bag?

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 29/08/2022 18:20

If you're good at sewing, maybe take the sleeves in a bit. That extra material makes the dress look too big.
Nice hair.

whatdodos · 29/08/2022 18:33

I think it looks nice but I'd roll the sleeves up a bit and maybe a few nice necklaces or beads sort of thing to break it up. A belt if you feel confident :)

Drivebye · 29/08/2022 18:56

OP it doesn't do you any favours, it makes your boobs look huge. It also doesn't define any shape.

Go for wide necklines or v neck. Don't wear big puffy sleeves when you've got big boobs. I say this as someone with v big boobs.

cherrypiepie · 29/08/2022 19:44

I really like it and there are a million of these "Chuck on" dresses around at the moment, so they are popular.

Id wear it with boots and tights in Winter rather than sandals summer - agree the sleeve / sandal combo is not quite right.

I'd wear it all the time in winter for lunches out smart casual things, shopping and running errands!

It's not frumpy

Your hair looks AMAZING well done on your "journey"

IvorCutler · 29/08/2022 19:46

It doesn’t need anything. It suits you, you look great and your hair is fabulous.

RudsyFarmer · 29/08/2022 19:48

I like it! Maybe add a belt.

sageandrosemary · 29/08/2022 20:22

Well I think it's lovely! It's a more conservative style maybe but I think quite classy. I'd happily wear it.
