I went to Superdrug today, and lo & behold they actually had a tester for the Superdrug Layering Lab Floral scent which is supposed to be a dupe for Stella but has now also been discontinued. It is NOT a dupe, smells vile and I am SO glad I did not buy! I really hope the other dupes I bought over the weekend fair better!

@Experiment627

I have been known to do my fair share of mistakes while blind buying fragrances. These days testers are a rare occurrence rather than mainstream. Good for you that you where able to try before you buy.
I have never tried the one you mentioned from Superdrug.
Let us know how the others do.

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel i'm in awe of your perfume collection, I thought my collection was big with nearly 60 perfumes lol.
I'm on a roll this month, I have 5 empties so far:
Boots aromatherapy orange blossom bergamot body lotion - this had a lovely fragrance and made my skin soft. I think it would be suited to Spring/Summer time.

Baylis&Harding Beauticology toffee apple hand cream- I didn't like the smell of this at all, it did make my hands soft for a little while though.

Joules bath fizzer- this smelt amazing

Baptiste dry shampoo&colour protect- I didn't really like this, my hair still looked greasy after use.

M&S comforting shea body butter- this was horrible to apply it was so thick, my skin did feel soft after use.

@Experiment627 & @Thereislightattheendofthetunnel , Portrait of a Lady is what is known as a “Room Rocker”! If worn VERY sparingly, (as I suspect the gent Thereislight was discussing had the grace to do) it is delicate and graceful. If not, and unfortunately most people slam it on, it is a sledgehammer. It is very patchouli-heavy, and favored by chain-smokers. It becomes cloying with rose and vanilla and can smell funereal in small spaces. Meanwhile, patchouli leaves were traditionally dried and used to scent saris and precious silks and woolen items packed away in tissue paper and packed away in cedar chests. When unpacked, the garments would have an ethereal, powdery, exotic scent that can be found with a delicate application of this fragrance. (Or even Narciso Pour Femme - sweeter, but same vein.)

PomRuns · 13/02/2023 23:20

Room rocker 😂

gosh - well might need to pick when to wear mine …

Fraaahnces · 14/02/2023 01:17

It’s polarizing because of the patchouli! @PomRuns Some people love it, some people hate it. The rose can make it jammy, syrupy, sickly. Or sultry, heady and silky. The patchouli can be thick and clanging against the roses but when applied gently the powdery notes in the dry down feel like they give the petals a feathery landing pad.

Fraaahnces · 14/02/2023 03:28

Now the empties I forgot all about when I got high thinking about Portrait of a Lady. It is so lush! The makeuppy bits first!
Laneige apple & lime sleeping mask - possibly 2nd fave flavour after grapefruit. Berry potentially has the edge due to the pretty colour though. Laneige Berry lip balm. NOT THE SAME. Booooooooo!
Some very ancient Fenty Beauty mini gloss bombs from many holidays past. I love the formulas of these and these are some of the ones that weren’t ransacked by my DD’s, the farts. My HG colour from when it was first released… Is it plum? Is it brown? Is it Greige? No! It’s Hot Chocolit, Baybeeeee! Love. Confetti is translucent white with purty sparkles. I love her. Next is ln Fu$$y. Just didn’t do anything for me as my skin tone is too yellow. I’m not a pale, frosty pink girl. It was handy for mixing with other lipsticks whose formulas I didn’t love or colours needed adjusting. And a cheap dupe for Mac Paintpot in Groundwork - Revlon Colourstay Creme Eyeshadow in 720 Chocolate. Sure it eventually dries out as mine did, but it’s always half price somewhere and for $7Aud, it’s just not worth splurging on the real thing.

Now for the skincare…
The Yuja Niacin Kit was a gift from my kids for Christmas because I love all things Yuja (Yuzu in Korean). Unfortunately it is clearly for younger skin, but it smelled so delicious and Niacin (or Niacinamide) is so useful, and as they are only minis, I figured I could make it work. I used the cleanser in the shower to remove oil or balm cleanser, and on the body when I went away after Christmas. The ampoule is actually a mighty fine spot treatment. (I have a lot left.) The moisturiser and Sleeping Mask I used overnight on my feet and they were moisturised and smelled delicious!
The Skin1004 Kit I bought for myself. It has the highest content of Cica (Madagascar Centella) and I wanted to see how my skin liked it. I happened to be sent a GWP of another set the same. The ampoule (serum) is 100% Madagascar Centella Extract. My sensitive, tretinoin-abused skin LOOOOOVES this whole line. In fact, I would recommend this to anyone, of all ages and skin types! (Never thought I’d say that!) of course, I threw in added ceramides for moisture and soothing, but apart from that, it’s fab! I have kept one pack intact for travel but ordered full-sized ampoules in this range and their other two ranges to play with. (They’re enormous - 100ml!)
The sunscreen though, eeeeeeh. It’s their first one, and it’s a bit think for my liking. It’s a bit like the LRP one. I use it on my neck and dec and the Hyalu Water Fit Sun Serum. It’s much lighter and more moisturizing. I guess the advantage of the first is that it’s a combo chemical/physical one, so I would use this on the beach or up in the mountains. For every day though, the other is more enjoyable.
Now be aware that I know I am biased. These Laneige products are hyaluronic acid-based and are for dehydrated skin. Mine is not. I’m sure they’re great if yours is, but I felt like I was adding an inactive serum underneath my plumping ceramides. I am sure if you were dry and parched they would add glow though. Why did I use them? The packaging. I have cleaned out the blue pot and will re-use because it’s beautiful. Did I pay for this? No. I was sent this to review. I wrote something very similar. I am sure if I was 18-30 with perfect skin, this would be damn fine skincare (albeit rather over-priced. There are other products out there in less spectacular packaging that are virtually identical.)

CinnamonCoffee · 14/02/2023 08:37

I've tried the Laniege sleep mask and I must be the only person who doesn't like it. It doesn't last very long where as my glossier balm lasts me hours

Fraaahnces · 14/02/2023 10:36

Are you putting too much on @CinnamonCoffee? The trick with the Laneige is to apply a very thin layer. It is also mildly exfoliating, so I would use it overnight first, then have breakfast, brush teeth, etc wipe lips gently with warm, damp flannel, then apply again - just for the first day. See how that works for you.
(Btw, I have decided to be brave and have literally just put in an order for some copycat sleeping masks so am excited to compare and contrast in a billion years when they arrive.) I have kids to pass them off to if I don’t like them. (And a few more Laneige masks up my sleeve.)

LivingDeadGirlUK · 14/02/2023 11:09

I have finished a small Alpha-h liquid gold rose edition which I think came in M&S advent last year. People were raving about this but I didn't really notice much after using it!

Yeah, I feel the same about it. I don't know what the fuss is about. I'm still going through a second bigger bottle I got from M&S and it seems to be never ending. I generally splash toners etc directly on to my face though so you don't lose all the content on the cotton pad.

MavisMcMinty · 14/02/2023 13:15

Oh wow, think I’ve found my people on this thread!

All my empties lately have been from my Perricone advent calendar, 12 mainly minis, although there was a 15ml serum and a 30ml moisturiser which didn’t last long because I needed to use loads each time, not very good slip and glide when applying. Not a fan of cold plasma at all, though, doesn’t feel nice or smell nice!

Not the first time I’ve tried Perricone and not “got” it, but this calendar seemed a cheapish way of trying again. I think the eyewatering price of Perricone must be because it’s American, and you’re just paying import costs.

PomRuns · 14/02/2023 15:58

I had a 10ml portrait of a lady sample (Liberty AC/GWP?).

It smells horrendous on me. I used a v small amount on @Fraaahnces advice. I need to shower again.

PomRuns · 14/02/2023 15:59

Your description (as always) was fantastic though!

Experiment627 · 14/02/2023 16:41

@MavisMcMinty welcome to the thread!

@PomRuns is there any left? May I buy the sample off you?

@Fraaahnces I am not surprised you are asked to review things - you have a wonderful turn of phrase 💜

I have two empties to report:

  • Isana Kids green bath fizzers from Rossmann: got these in Spain - give amazing colour to the bath - my son loves them.
  • Essence Lash Princess sculpted volume mascara: have been using this for about a month and I just CANNOT anymore. So clumpy and awful. Big disappointment - I know some of these are well considered but think the purple packaging swayed me, rather than seeing which is the fabled one.

@OchonAgusOchonOh

I am so glad I am not the only one to apply toner or whatever thing comes in liquid form directly to my face instead of a cotton pad.
Definetely a great tip to get more use out of a product.
If I am feeling inspired I reuse spray bottles to put toner in too.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 14/02/2023 17:46

@Thereislightattheendofthetunnel - that's a good idea re the spray bottles. I'm currently using an elemis apricot toner in a spray bottle. I'll hold on to the bottle after it's finished.

Experiment627 · 15/02/2023 04:17

I reused a Revolution spray bottle to put some Zoflora mixed with water in - and then use that when dealing with spillages on carpet/bed/sofa that need it - please note I DO NOT spray Zoflora on me!

OP posts:
Fraaahnces · 15/02/2023 06:33

I recycle mini spray bottles in the car too. They’re great for putting glass cleaner in for the windows or your glasses/phone/screens whatever.
Also liquid hand sanitizer.
And because I have a giant hairy floofball dog, I have one with Febreeze.
(we don’t have this magical mystery product called Zoflora in Aus. Must look it up.)

Fraaahnces · 15/02/2023 06:46

You know what? It looks like I just lied. I went to look up the ingredients and it’s literally everywhere now!!! Last time I looked I could only buy it on Amazon for the equivalent of a tropical island and your firstborn child. (So excited - how weird am I?) Going to buy a couple tonight!

RosetteNebula · 15/02/2023 07:23

I want to join! I've recently sorted out all of my makeup/skincare and put most of my skincare in the bathroom cabinet so I can actually see how much I've got. I've also started repurposing products that I don't like ie eye cream on hands or feet etc.

Had an empty yesterday - a sample tube of Clarins Super Restorative Day Cream SPF20. It was nice but I've just looked at the price and was rather shocked. It was nice but not THAT nice!

Experiment627 · 15/02/2023 08:21

Welcome to the thread @RosetteNebula !

@Fraaahnces I use Zoflora (Linen Fresh) in lots of situations... that said a little goes a long way.

I have another empty:

  • Isana Kids purple bath fizzers from Rossmann: amazing colour and my son loves them. Purple plus green = black bath water 😯

@Experiment627
I’ve tried twice so I think about 8-9mls left.
