@NiceUnusualDifferent oh so the night cream is what is breaking you out? I have never had that before from it... I thought it was the day cream. I am going to try a few days without the day cream and see what happens.

OP posts:
NiceUnusualDifferent · 05/01/2023 15:14

Yes it was, I haven't tried the day cream. It's a shame as it gave me a lovely glow before the breakouts.

Fraaahnces · 05/01/2023 19:36

I am not recommending Stylevana atm 🤬😡🤬

Experiment627 · 05/01/2023 19:40

Oh no! What happened @Fraaahnces?

OP posts:
NiceUnusualDifferent · 05/01/2023 21:21

My first empty. L'occitane ultra rich body cream in vanilla. I loved it, I have super dry skin and this did the trick without feeling heavy. 1/186!

Experiment627 · 06/01/2023 16:34

I have two more empties:

  • Nivea creme soft: another travel size from the advent - one more to go!
  • imim firming and sculpting neck cream: was sent this to try out and make a video on... won't spoil the surprise just yet 🤫

Delurking to say I love Canmake Mermaid spf gel and have found Cheripai pretty good to buy it from.

I have posted on here before but don’t have enough empties to post!

Fraaahnces · 07/01/2023 01:06

@limerentidiot - Canmake Mermaid Gel is one of the very best but the tube is TEEENY. Also have to make sure you get the clear one or you end up with a white or green cast (one’s “brightening” and one’s redness coverage, but they’re pretty bad.)
@Experiment627 I ordered nearly $100 of bits in November. It never arrived. Despite receipts from them and the courier company admitting that the parcel was damaged and them sending me voucher for a refund, the voucher doesn’t work and suddenly radio silence from the customer service team or bots that don’t answer the question. Infuriating!!!! I absolutely rate the customer service of YesStyle, OLIVEYOUNG and StyleKorean, though. Also on the last two sites you can often get great deals with two for one packs that you don’t see elsewhere or gift packs with other items in the same range added for free

MidnightMeltdown · 07/01/2023 01:39

I have trouble with SPFs breaking me out too. I usually go for serum type SPFs as I find these much better than thick sticky creams.

I'm currently using Everyday Humans Resting Beach Face SPF serum which is nice and light and non sticky. I got it in a beauty box. Think it might be an Australian brand? Anyway it's not caused me any breakouts.

MidnightMeltdown · 07/01/2023 01:43

Really want to try K beauty but can't justify a purchase until I've used up more of my stash. I've run out of storage space for beauty products!

When I run out of spf I will look there.

limerentidiot · 07/01/2023 01:45

yikes, @Fraaahnces, glad I accidentally picked the right one first time or i definitely wouldn’t have RP!

That sounds nice, @MidnightMeltdown . It’s so hard to find a decent spf moisturiser that doesn’t make me look like an oil slick.

Fraaahnces · 07/01/2023 01:48

Thought I might as well review some of my fave sunscreens and tell you why I love them. Unless specifically mentioned, they are all SPF++++, leave no cast at all and play well under makeup, or they wouldn’t be a favourite.

The Canmake one mentioned by @limerentidiot above is lovely. It’s clear and glowy and works perfectly under makeup. It can be used right around the eyes, but stings a wee bit. I used it for years. The tube is small, but that is because it is designed to be chucked in your handbag and used every two hours. I’ve moved on only because I have found others that offer skincare benefits.

Beauty of Joseon is my fave Winter one. This leaves your skin deliciously plumptious as it has nourishing, moisturizing rice-derived probiotics and your skin will be glowy and comfortable. Just did a 26hr car trip in airconditioning and used this in the car. Also on hands.

At the moment it’s summer here. Average temperature is about 36-38’C. 😡 (I bloody hate it.) Anyhow, I love using these three especially atm:

SKIN1004 - Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum SPF50 PA++++. It’s hydrating and soothing thanks to the high quantities of Centella Asiatica (Cica) and Blue Hyaluronic Acid. My skin looooves Centella Asiatica it would seem. It has been a godsend for hormonal (and post-Christmas piggery) zits.

Round Lab Birch Juice Sunscreen. This is a delicious, watery-feeling sunscreen that is light and hydrating. It doesn’t offer the same skincare benefits as above, but it’s just so cooling, soothing and brightening it definitely has its place. I often buy this as two for one.

AHC safe on light serum sunscreen. This was a freebie. I really love this, but can’t say that its particular skincare benefits are something that I need. It’s supposed to help mop up freckles and dark spots, but I don’t really have any of those. I wear this to work and because it’s a serum in a pump pack, it’s very handbag safe. I love this on my hands. It also came with a sun stick that I wham over the top of my makeup when I leave work. (It’s blue and is called Natural Protection Fresh Sun Stick. Wouldn’t rely on one alone because it’s hard to know if you miss areas, but they are great to add to the handbag for extra help.)

Speaking of Sun Sticks, I absolutely adore the Abib Quick Sun Stick Protection Bar. It is shaped differently to most and bigger. Very clear, smells okay. Easy to get around nooks and crannies on face, lips, etc. Can use on arms, neck, etc and can spread with hands. Wonderful product. Great for bag and doesn’t melt in the heat or the car.

FiveShelties · 07/01/2023 01:52

First three empties.
NZ Royal Jelly Face Gel with Manuka Honey, which I really liked, lovely and refreshing. I would repurchase if I dud not have numerous other face moisturisers and mists etc.
White Coconut Perfume came in an M & S beauty bag and loved it. I have another one.
Lip balm from an airline I think, have lots more.

I forgot my first empty of ‘23! Missha Glow Skin Balm! This is not a new product by any means but it’s new to me. I bought it in a BOGOF sale and my DD1 pinched one. It’s a 4-in-1 product, primer, moisturizer, morning skin pack (?) and glowing cream. It’s amazing. Definitely provides a wonderful makeup base, can be mixed with foundation for a tinted moisturiser look and worn alone for a glow up look. I went back and bought two more while on sale. (Don’t tell DD1)

Experiment627 · 07/01/2023 08:44

Thanks @Fraaahnces I have taken screenshots and will send myself an email
so when I am ready for my K Beauty haul
and SPF splurge I have it ready to go!

My 1st empties of year:

Barbara Storm face cream. Was fine.
Susanne Kaufmann body oil. Again fine (prefer Clarins).
Shu Umera hair mask. I liked it. Would consider purchasing, rich but not greasy.

1 sample.

New year, new empties!

Clarins face cream mini - really nice. Didn't use it long enough to notice any difference but lovely texture and smell

Le labo Rose shower gel mini - was ok.

Blisteze lip balm. Good stuff.

Smash box stick bronzer. Really good but a bit sparkly so better suited for evening wear. Won't be repurchasing as I have a million to use up but will bear in mind for the future

Davine's oi shampoo mini. Stinky. Saved the last of it for makeup brushes but it didn't clean them well so chucked it.

Skin and me tubes x2. Boring but amazing.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 10/01/2023 09:08

This works Perfect Legs Body Butter. I really liked this. It left my skin feeling lovely and soft.

Inkey List niacanimide serum. I don't think this really did anything. However, I still have another 2 to go through so I will use them.

Lumene eye cream. This was fine. Nothing overly special.
I do tend to get bored with eye creams though as they take so long to use up.

Buster27 · 10/01/2023 10:12

Model Co more brows gel - looked fine but felt heavy and like my brows were stuck to my head. Wouldn't RP.

Body Shop strawberry lip butter - fine, liked the scent. Have a one night trip coming up so going to repurpose the tub as a cleanser travel case. Now onto one of the other million lip balms I have..

I have two empties to report:

  • Boots No7 protect & perfect intense advanced day cream spf 15: I was not a fan of this as a day cream so I used up on the body - and it was delightful. Went in really well - only thing I was not mad about was the scent. But using it as a body cream is an expensive plan!
  • Superdrug root cover medium brown: I think this works as well as the Boots one or indeed other brands. I just should have got a darker shade.

Finished a Body Shop Almond body yogurt.
It's a gel and feels cold on the skin which would be nice in a warm climate but not so nice at 7.15 am after a shower on a cold, wet day in Dublin 😀.
It is cooling and I'd repurchase for a sun holiday.
I'm now using the Body Shop almond milk creamy body lotion.
It's very nice and I will repurchase.
I use L'occitane Almond shower oil but I think their body creams and lotions, while really lovely, are too expensive.

PomRuns · 11/01/2023 20:36

I’ve worked out I need to use 6/7 products a month.
But I have a lot of hair things I probably won’t use.
plus toners - are toners essential- shall I just give away ? I’ve 3 of those alpha rose ones plus the face vinegar from lasts years fortnums.

@OchonAgusOchonOh I really liked that lotion too.

2 more empties
Aromatherapy associates renewing rose cleanser. Fine as a morning cleanser. Not a rp.
Susanne Kaufmann bath oil. Didn’t think it particularly smelt of anything. Was ok, not a rp.

dylgan · 11/01/2023 21:19

I've got 4 empties this week
Briogeo Deep Conditioning Mask - this was a hair mask and I really liked it. My hair is in pretty good condition so it didn't have much to do, but my hair always felt super soft after I used it. Not something I'd RP as I don't have a need for it, but would happily use again.
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream - I've used this before and thought it was ok, but my skin really liked it this time. Left my skin feeling good with no greasiness. I would consider Getting this, but have to work through a major over supply of moisturisers first.
Dr Barbara Sturm Face Cream - good moisturiser, always like this brand and this didn't disappoint.
Maison Francis Kurkdjian Rouge 540 perfume - really liked this, not enough to splash out on it, but it was nice.

That takes me up to 9 for the year, but I'm working my way through my smaller sizes first in an effort to get numbers down.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 12/01/2023 10:20

My 5th empty is superdrugs radiance 2 in 1 serum and moisturiser. I'm not convinced my skin liked this tbh, it certainly didn't seem to have any impact and I can't rule it out for aiding breakouts. Will not repurchase.

I'm using a REN anti redness serum next.

loz12345 · 14/01/2023 16:50

1st and 2nd empty - davines oi all in one milk & Ren Atlantic Kelp hand lotion - loved the hair milk and will repurchase once I have used some of the other products I have and the Ren was fine but not really anything special. It is a bit too thin to be nourishing in winter but might be ok for summer so wouldn’t repurchase
