Hell to the YES @LivingDeadGirlUK !!! NO MORE SAVING FOR BEST! Best is everyday!

I discovered the wonder that is clear lip liner, however the revlon one I bought won't 'twist up' so that's had to go in the bin. I'm going to try and use up my coloured liners before I buy another I think.

One lovely Daisy scented bath bomb from M&S used, I've some old bath stuff in the back of the cupboard that probably needs to go in the bin so need to have a proper look in there at some point.

LadyEloise1 · 29/12/2022 20:02

I love my no colour lip liner too. I prefer a pencil you can sharpen.
I have had a Max Factor one and a Body Shop one.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 29/12/2022 20:40

@LadyEloise1 yes I think a normal pencil would be better, I will see how my lip liner challenge goes and if I fail, I'll try Max Factor.

Fraaahnces · 29/12/2022 23:33

Another empty - kinda. It’s more of a Frankenproduct. I had been mixing together my Lumilayer Primer, It Cosmetics BB Cream and a dash of the Purito Cica CC cream to change the undertone to more of an olive one than a golden base. As there was about 1/4 of a bottle of Lumilayer left and not much of the other two, I thought I’d mix it into the Lumilayer bottle and see how it went. I filled it and achieved my perfect product for daytime here. It’s gone though. Now I’m back to mixing it old-school in my hands. (Although have found a more moisturizing primer too.)9

Minnie123456 · 30/12/2022 00:03

I'm with you @LivingDeadGirlUK no more saving things for "best" i've had to bin some lovely products as they had went off and i'm sure there's more lurking in my cupboard.
I got 2 lovely gift sets and a bottle of perfume for Christmas although I have treated myself to the L'occitane advent calender, reduced on Sephora and a no7 gift set reduced in Boots. I don't think I will need to buy alot of beauty products in 2023 apart from hair care and maybe some skincare.

Experiment627 · 30/12/2022 10:01

@LivingDeadGirlUK what do you mean by a clear lip pencil? I always have a "nude" lip pencil on the go and use under any other lip colour.

@Fraaahnces you seriously need to start your own line!

L'Occitane oil to milk make-up remover.

Not a big fan. The smell is not great and it's utterly useless at removing mascara.

I don't get on with eye make-up removers generally so usually use a cleansing balm or similar on my eyes. While this didn't irritate, it just didn't remove enough. I had to re-do my eyes with a balm.

Happy Nearly New Year everyone.

My last empty of the year:

Ren, ready steady glow daily aha tonic - I liked this, felt that it really cleaned out my skin even after I already had used cleanser.

Fancyateapottea · 30/12/2022 14:28

Hi, I’m going to join and add it to my list of new year resolutions to use up the products I’ve got and not buy anything new! (unless to replace)

I’ll start with Paula’s choice BHA (30ml). I really rate this, it’s the only chemical exfoliant I’ve used that has been gentle but also really effective. I alternate it nightly with tretinoin. I’ve repurchased in full size already

Clear as in translucent, they stop lipstick moving away from lips but are colourless. So one pencil for all the lippys.

LadyEloise1 · 30/12/2022 21:48

@Experiment627
The clear lip liner prevents lipstick/ gloss bleeding into any cat's bum lines around the mouth.

I think I need to rejoin this thread, my beauty stash is growing too much.
My aim is to only buy what I need this year and to make a significant dent in my haul by next Christmas.
This weeks empties-
This works in transit camera close-up - I was pleasantly surprised by this, very much does what it says - moisturises and primes. A good base for make up. I've got another one in my stash so will happily use that up.
Shiseido uplifting and firming eye mask - I was happy with this. You put it on after cleaning and moisturising, it definitely left my skin feeling plump and smooth. I have another so will use again next week.
Origins Checks and Balances frothy face wash - this used to be my go to cleanser years ago. I'd forgotten how much I like it. I like a face wash and this one has a creamy texture that doesn't dry out your skin.
Lancôme Génifique youth activating concentrate - this was only a sample, so hard to say how effective but my skin has been in good condition whilst using it.
Maison Francis Kurkdjian Silver Eau de parfum- this was ok. It's a unisex fragrance and I wouldn't buy it, much prefer others.
So, I've used up 5 this week and no new additions.

@dylgan welcome back!

MidnightMeltdown · 01/01/2023 22:18

Happy new year all!

Anyone setting any targets for 2023? Think that I'm going to aim for 130 empties this year.

Will also try to keep track of spending. The only things that I'm likely to actually need this year are concealer, cleanser, and possibly shampoo/conditioner. I think that I have enough of everything else to see me through the year!

@dylgan I really like that Origins face wash too. I've been impressed with all the products that I've tried from them so far.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 01/01/2023 22:40

@MidnightMeltdown very ambitious plan. That's more than 2.5 a week! Do you have loads of sample sizes?

I'm not sure how many I went through in the past year but I'd say it's probably closer to 1 every 2 or 3 weeks. And that includes what dd "borrowed"

I don't think I'll need to buy anything over the next year. It's a question of self-control though when I come across bargains.

MidnightMeltdown · 01/01/2023 23:20

@OchonAgusOchonOh I managed to get through 128 empties in 2022, so 130 definitely feels doable.

You'd be surprised how much stuff you get through once you start keeping track! I could easily go a few weeks without any empties, and then suddenly I'd have a whole load all at once.

I do have quite a few travel sizes and will count them. I should perhaps count them separately, but that gets complicated when brands do multiple sizes (for example, the 75ml bum bum cream, which isn't a mini, but not full size either 🤔).

OchonAgusOchonOh · 01/01/2023 23:34

@MidnightMeltdown wow, that's impressive for last year!

Most of my stash is full size so I guess it's going to be slower.

FiveShelties · 02/01/2023 07:19

I am going to set a target of 96. I have 288 items and that is a third, I am hoping not to buy anything. So I need to use up around two items each week. Does not sound a lot but .....

PomRuns · 02/01/2023 16:25

Happy New Year. Hope everyone has had a great break.

Last year I finished 141 products and 24 minis. I've tried to be more mindful with my buying so start the year with 65 full size products and about 20 minis, I also have several things open so my aim is to use 80 products and the minis.

Motivated by @CherryMargo I looked at my spending. I didn't include the odd body lotion/shampoo from Boots/supermarkets, hopefully didn't add up to much !
My main spending is John Lewis/Neom (£100), Liberty (especially the kits - 4 kits total £190) and advent calendars (JL cost £165, LiB £139). I also spent £100 in Sephora while on holiday and £90 in Clarins.
= £800 ish but suspect with all the things I have forgotten more in the 1k region. I am really going to try and spend less this year. I'm a bit eek about almost £100 per month.

CherryMargo · 02/01/2023 21:36

Happy New Year, ladies! 🎆🥂🍾

Thanks to everyone who has shared their 2022 results, and left an encouraging comment on my previous post. Your support and understanding means to me more than you know! 💖

Now back to my inventory 📝

I am carrying 236 full-size products, 68 deluxe samples / travel sizes and 40 foil sachets / tiny samples (1-5 ml) over into 2023. My beauty tools & accessories stash currently includes 211 full-size products and 2 samples, and my fragrance stash consists of 7 full-size perfume bottles and 9 samples.

I’ve also made an annual update to my product usage calculator with regard to my makeup products. The results are as follows: I have ten years of foundation, eight years of eyeshadow, two years of blusher and… 70 🤦 years of lipstick left in my stash.

My primary goals for 2023 are to reduce eight more categories of my S&B products down to only one item, and to have zero expired products in at least five of my 70 categories.

CherryMargo · 02/01/2023 21:45

Welcome, @ElinorDashwood68 and @Fancyateapottea! 🤗

@PomRuns sometimes it can be a bit unsettling to look back at our spending, but it can help discover our buying patterns and triggers. I think of it as a self-learning process.

@MidnightMeltdown the list is quite long (please see below ⬇️). Most chemicals on it are toxic, irritant or cause severe adverse effects only in high amounts but I still try to abstain from them where possible. However, some ingredients did aggravate my skin in the past, causing anything from itching to full-on eczema.

@CherryMargo 70 years!!!
Thanks for the list of nasties - I definitely recognise some. From the silicones, I thought Demithicone was ok 🙈 although I know my skin is not a fan of high levels of silicone.

Dimethicone might be perfectly safe (I am not an expert, and wouldn't claim that my list is 100% correct), but it is something that I try and avoid because my skin doesn't like silicones either 😞

OchonAgusOchonOh · 03/01/2023 09:54

I decided to go through my list. Last year I used up 75 items. That included approx 20 I put in to an advent calendar for dd. I have 150 left!!! And that doesn't include make-up.

Based on that rate of usage, I have 3 years worth left. I have a few sheet masks, a few sample and a few travel sizes but mainly full size.

I really need to not buy this year.
