I got married in 1994.

Guests on my wedding photos seem to be wearing flowery tea dresses (with shoulder pads ) and a couple in suits - also with shoulder pads .

I wore a meringue .

Strappy dress over a fitted T-Shirt is an easy 90s look. Maybe add a tattoo choker Smile

I agree with taking your inspiration from Friends.

But that doesn't look any different from 2022. My assistant was wearing a dress and t-shirt very similar to the photo top right today.

Sharlene and Scott's wedding in neighbours- it's the 90s wedding of the decade! No more inspiration needed!

That was 1988.

Ooh I think this is fun. How about little black dress, black choker, cork wedges, glitter around your eyes (chunky glitter, not like the fine powder you have now), matt pastel Hard Candy nails, hair in lots of little clips, tiny backpack, temporary tattoo on shoulder or ankle, bangles and/or anklet.
I think lipstick was often in a darker matt shade, although there was also the 'heather shimmer' type.
Remember to leave your phone at home to be truly authentic! And party like you have as many responsibilities as you had in the 90s 😁

I don't know it ever went away. There's not a defining 90s look in the way the 20s 50s or 60s have. I don't think anything from 1990s onwards has a specific look.

Slip dress or crushed velvet dress and DMs is pretty much what I wore in the early 90s.
Sounds perfect , unfortunately I’m short and now fatter than I was in the 90s. Any ideas for an alternative black dress?

Have a look at All Saints.

What about something like this tea dress with a pair of platform shoes?

Either have volume in your hair or put it up in a French pleat or messy bun and add some hair jewels.

All Saints is a great idea.

They have some really gorgeous silk-blend midi dresses. 90s vibe but nothing like fancy dress.

Greengr · 19/08/2022 09:28

OOh love All Saints , good shout!

God I'd fucking hate this.

Black and white parties are bad enough.

Trainers, leg warmers, lots of neon jewellery, work out sweat pants, vest top, curly hair in a ponytail.

Or white heels and a dress with either shoulder pads or really puffy sleeves

It's 90's not 80's!

SummerLovin123 · 19/08/2022 09:47

Greengr · 18/08/2022 12:15

Keep the ideas coming please🙏
If I go down the LBD ( what style of dress?)route, any ideas for shoes, accessories and make up please.Ideally high street and cheap. Haven't time to trawl charity shops.

Louboutins or Nike Air Max?

What size are you? I have a very 90's tea dress I can send you. In fact it was worn once to a wedding way back in the early noughties!

AtomicBlondeRose · 19/08/2022 09:51

I wore a buttoned slip dress with a fitted t-shirt under it yesterday! It is a bit funny to have a “theme” where a lot of the clothes are basically the fashion now. There’s some nice floral tea dresses upthread that are very similar to those currently in shops. So if they specified jo theme at all it’d still end up as a 90s style anyway!

Maireas · 19/08/2022 09:53

There really wasn't a distinctive/defining 90s style. I've been having a look at what I wore to weddings in the 90s, which is actually stuff you can get now. A nice floral summer dress with a jacket.
Unless it's actually fancy dress that they want?

Did you grow up somewhere the 80's arrived a decade late? Grin
