I am hoping some other people say "oh once a week" but gloomily prepared for EVERYONE to say daily

it seems such a waste of time

Hmm, I'm not sure, you could try . A homeopath would probably say so, as they would probably say that if people wash under their armits twice a day you wouldn't smell anyway. I wouldn't like to go without it though! Not that I'm sweaty, lol! Didn't really study it in that great detail as it wasn't really for me, only lasted at university for a year. Found the subject quite boring .

every morning in the shower. i have super curly hair & just can't sleep on it. and i never ever straighten it.

FuriousGeorge · 27/01/2008 19:23

Twice a week.We haven't had a shower for over 2.5 years,& it is such a faff to do it over the basin,so I put it off as long as I can.I can't wait to get a shower fitted & have really clean feeling hair again.

every 5-6 days , as have combination hair ; dry hair below temples and gets a little shiny on top . I think all that styling can dry it out even more , so its pony tail past day 4 !! Let that sebum do its good work, (my excsue for lazyyarseness)!!!!!

Like others have said ,its such a big faff to do , and also GHD it and like to let it dry naturaly as much as poss , so as not to do double heat styling.

Maidamess · 27/01/2008 19:55

Every other day, not for cleanliness but for restyle purposes.

fuzzywuzzy · 27/01/2008 19:57

every other day.

OverMyDeadBody · 27/01/2008 20:02

I wash my hair once a week. It is long, thick, dry and curly and looks fine unwashed, as long s I don't brush it either. I brush it after a wash and that is it. I guess it's probably best described as 'messy hair'

ChirpyGirl · 27/01/2008 20:30

Every 4 or 5 days here, but if I had a proper shower instead of a mixer tap that goes cold when you lift it higher than your waist then I might wash it more often!

I never do anything to my hair apart from dye it every few months, no products, no hairdryer (DD1 is scared of it) so it is in really good condition and doesn't start to look too bad until day 4 so I wear it up.

ScoobyDoo · 27/01/2008 20:36

Every day as it gets totally greasy & looks shit, i hate doing every day wish i could do it every other day to be honest.

deeeja · 27/01/2008 21:05

Every 2 days.
I would like to wash it every day, but all my ds's are frightened by hairdryer noise, so have to let it dry naturally. I am lucky though, my hair is that lovely wavy texture, and tends to look ok, with a little wax on the ends.(so I tell myself!)
I haven't used a hairdryer, for 5 years!

nappyaddict · 28/01/2008 08:34

melsy how many days can you wear it down for without it looking greasy cos i think i remember seeing your photo on facebook and your hair looked similar to mine.

throckenholt · 28/01/2008 08:41

just to make Franny feel better - I do mine once a week.

Tiggiwinkle · 28/01/2008 08:42

Every other day. It gets itchy if I leave it any longer.

throckenholt · 28/01/2008 08:48

by the way - it only gets greasy on day 6 (if at all) and never gets itchy.

Dh washes his every day or two days- and it gets greasy in that time. I am inclined to think the more often you wash it the quicker it gets greasy.

Now a question as a child in the early 70s I swear everyone washed their hair about once a week - so when did it change to the "every day like every one else" ?

And I wonder how much energy is "wasted" in heating up all that water for daily hair (and body) washing ?

nappyaddict · 28/01/2008 08:49

what is your hair like throckenholt? i can't help thinking all these people who wash once a week have really thick, dry, curly hair or something that benefits from only washing once a week.

throckenholt · 28/01/2008 08:51

just another comment - I don't use conditioner, or any other hair product except a simple shampoo for "normal" hair.

Maybe the more products you use the more you upset the natural balance and so it needs washing more often.

Also when I was pregnant it needed washing less often - maybe up to 2 weeks (so long ago I have forgotten exactly) - and it looked better than it ever had then.

throckenholt · 28/01/2008 08:52

um - my hair is "normal" - not greasy or dry, mid length and quite thick - both the hairs themselves (compared to DH's at least who has very fine hair) and a lot of it.

nappyaddict · 28/01/2008 09:00

well this week i let it go 5 days and it actually started looking less greasy on day 4 and 5 but then i went swimming so i had to wash it.

throckenholt - can you wear it down without it looking greasy all that time? a few people have said they wash every 5-7 days but have to wear it up on day 6 and 7 cos it starts to look a bit greasy.

throckenholt · 28/01/2008 09:41

it isn't long enough to make it worth tying back - it is short on top (actually too long now - desparately needs a cut !) - so it is generally down. It just looks a bit flat towards the end of the week - and tends to stay where I brush it a bit more (so maybe the same effect as all those holding products I don't use ). Certainly when I wash it it is very slippy and flops around - so it is at its best from my point of view mid week.

If I take the kids swimming though it really screws up the sequence because it really does need washing properly after that.

melsy · 28/01/2008 19:31

nappyaddict , I think by day 4 it starts to go a bit. I have very fine hair, but lots of it strangely and its very porous so takes a lot of heat styling to sort & can get that fat fuzzy look, (which I loathe), if I dont do it properly, but that could be due to it being very dry.
