I am hoping some other people say "oh once a week" but gloomily prepared for EVERYONE to say daily

it seems such a waste of time

every day - i shower every day and it gets wet whilst im in there so i may as well chuck on shampoo and get on with it or i feel like a greasy blob.

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2008 20:35

My sister was telling me she HAS to wash hers every day - because she HAS to use such a heavy conditioner on it, which makes it terribly greasy

she has to use the conditioner because otherwise it gets very dry because she HAS to use straighteners every day

I couldn't bear to ask her why she HAS to use the straighteners every day as presume the answer would be "because I have to wash it every day...."

well every other day now its longer..my grandma would say never on new years day wash a soul away

never during a period..granma not me

if i didnt have a shower it would be less

i have to emerge from the shower with wet hair to justify the time i spend in there

Divastrop · 20/01/2008 20:36

donbean-i hate hairdressers.i hate going to the hairdressers as much as some people hate going to the dentist or the hospital.i havent been since mid october,i am hoping to go before my birthday in march(if i can pluck up the courage)

onepieceoflollipop · 20/01/2008 20:38

Franny I did wonder if your theory was right about only needing to wash it every day because lots of us do. However, after I have had the dds both times my skin and also scalp have been a bit drier during the pregnancy and for about 4 months after. Then my hair has been fine for 2 days.

However dd2 is now 5 months old and hair has got greasier again over the last few weeks. So even though I haven't been washing it more than 4 or so times a week for the past months, suddenly I need to again. I kind of think if you have greasy skin then your scalp is naturally the same. That's how it is for me anyway.

Everyday - I have a very bad hair day if I don't!

Monkeytrousers · 20/01/2008 20:41

Have tried so much stuff Franny. Lush do something irnically called 'snakoil' which used to help. I have spent a fortune though but now just tend to by any shampoo with 'teatree' in it. Lush do a shampoo bar which is good too. Have tried ones without sodium laureth sulfate to no avail, so think the chemical intolerance is just general now, whatever it is.

I wish I could just wash and leave it for a day or too, but once the lesions come up I tend to scratch and that makes doe overproduction of oil, which means I have to wash.

Can't afford the really posh ones, but if anyone else has this prob and found something that works I;d like a heads up!

Camping is a nightmare!

Nymphadora · 20/01/2008 20:41

every time I have a shower, so tends to be daily

hippipotami · 20/01/2008 20:42

Every ohter day, sometimes leave it till the third day if I know I am going swimming (because I will wash it at the pool shower then)

Detest going to the hairdresser, I go once every 5 months on average!! (have bobbed hair so it just goes from chinlength to shoulderlenght and back again)

brimfull · 20/01/2008 20:42

I wash every other day and use dry shampoo in between.
I find when I wear moisturiser at night it makes my hair greasy.

FrayedKnot · 20/01/2008 20:43

I wash mine every couple of days, usually. If I didn;t feel I had to look presentable for work, and wasn;t going anywhere special, I would probably wash it less often.

I think it might depend on the type / style of your hair, too.

As mine is curly, if I leave it to itslef and dry it naturally, it might be OK for 2-3 days, but will be annoying me with it's bushy madness, and I will have it tied up for a lot of the time. If I blow dry / straighten it, which makes it look a bit less wild and woolly initially, it is lank and greasy by the end of day 2.

I can;t see any problem at all with leaving it, if it looks OK

ZippiBabes · 20/01/2008 20:44

who was it thar tried the hair washes itself if you never wash it malarkey

Has your sister got curly hair?

FrannyandZooey · 20/01/2008 20:45

I do sometimes have a problem with itchy scalp, MT, and grease on the skin seems to make it worse, but products make it much worse

I usually cope by switching products when one seems to irritate me, and my most frequent find, Green people organic base, which has very little stuff in it, has been the most successful yet

tea tree sets me right off so we must have different problems, though

Onepiece I think it can vary through life can't it. but I am sure many people could wash less frequently than they do without ill effects

every day it gets greasy roots. and looks utterly awful if i dont,
and i dont feel right at work if it isnt washed....

luckylady74 · 20/01/2008 20:51

every 3 or 4 days - i just wash my fringe on the other days - i really don't think people look that closely and i can't be arsed quite frankly!

bozza · 20/01/2008 20:55

Every other day - ish. It gets messed about with with things like going to the gym or DD's swimming lesson at 10.30 oh Friday and as I have to go in with her I am not going to wash it Friday am. My usual plan is every other am in the shower. But if I am having a shower post gym in an evening before a scheduled wash (!) and not planning a shag I will shower and wash my hair that night and skip my morning shower (especially if working that day). The theory is to wear it down on the washed day and up on the unwashed day. It is quite long.

ja9 · 20/01/2008 20:57

every other day.

i think it's supposed to be good to not wash your hair too often as you strip it of it's natural oils.

one good thing about being preg is that hair doesn't need washed as often...

bozza · 20/01/2008 20:57

I have shower caps - freebie ones in hotels that DH brings home when he is on business. The idea of DH (no 1 every two weeks) and a shower cap is laughable. And Father Christmas was so kind as to bring my DD a delightful one with little ducks on it which I think he got in Boots but it might have been Superdrug.

SpawnChorus · 20/01/2008 20:59

Every day at the moment but only because I have v short hair that looks better if it's a bit wet before I bung wax through it. In fact I often don;t shampoo it, just wet it a bit.

When I had long hair I only washed it every 4-5 days. It looked much better that way (it's very think and coarse and goes too frizzy with more washing). It didn't get greasy at all.

Chipstick · 20/01/2008 21:02

I'm hoping they'll bring in the 'finger in an electrical socket' look so that I no longer have to wash mine everyday!!
