Anyone in their 50s and decided against Botox, fillers or anything but face cream?

I just wondered, prompted by the many recent threads. And not because you can't afford it either. I can afford them but have decided to age naturally for various reasons.

Feeling a little lonely though!

Me (mid 50s) and I don't know anyone in real life who has had them either, unless they are keeping quiet about it. It has never ever come up in conversation with friends.

BlueKaftan · 12/08/2022 08:14

I’m 54 and haven’t had anything done, although I’ve considered tear trough fillers. For now though I’m holding steady. I follow a couple of Instagram accounts of lovely older women with natural hair and no enhancements.

Dotcheck · 12/08/2022 08:14

I think most people

ColinRobinsonsfamiliar · 12/08/2022 08:15

Me.
I could afford it but what puts me off is seeing what it looks like on people.

Im not sure of the ins and outs of it but seeing people with odd shaped mouths/lips and bizarre looking faces that you can 100% tell that they have stuff injected just blows my mind.

Its not for me, I’m old, saggy, baggy and couldn’t give a fiddlers fart.
Im fighting the menopause fight with my focus being on bone and heart health rather than the outside packaging iyswim.

I don't either. But of course some of them may be keeping it quiet. We haven't really discussed the subject. My 54 year old sister and 78 yr old mother haven't had anything, and they would be honest about it.

I’m the same - I’m just ageing naturally though I could afford Botox etc

NiqueNique · 12/08/2022 08:18

I’m not in my 50s but I’m 47 and have absolutely no plans to tweak anything. It’s not a money matter for me, either, I just don’t want to mess with my face in any way.

Allschoolsareartschools · 12/08/2022 08:19

I made this decision last week after considering it for a couple of years.
I think my main reason was that you can just tell when someone has had it done even when it looks quite good its still obvious.
Also I'm early 50s & tbh I've probably left it too late to start - I'd need loads!!
I've started using Menoglow Deep Sleep moisture cream by Prai, it's made a really noticeable difference to my skin.

rumred · 12/08/2022 08:20

57 and natural. I'd rather not be sagging and aging but that's the way life is so I accept it. Life is way too short to waste money on such superficial and surely ultimately soul destroying stuff. You never know when your number is up...

OnlyEverAutumn · 12/08/2022 08:20

Me. Yes could afford it but if even celebrities with mega money end up looking super weird then I’m not confident I would want it anyway. It doesn’t make people look younger IMO, just odd.

Worldgonecrazy · 12/08/2022 08:22

me too, though I am considering something to lift my eyelids which are starting to fold over and no amount of creams is going to fix that. However every time I think of making an appointment I will see a woman who has had really bad facial ‘updates’ and it puts me off.

Mid 50s but blessed with good genes. I’m leaving my hair natural so far, as it’s that shade of reddish brown which looks awful when coloured at home and no way am I spending £££££s going to the hairdressers. I’ve bought a shampoo designed to tame greys rather than hide them.

would it be better if women were focused on staying as fit and healthy as possible into older age, rather than trying to emulate 20 year olds? My beauty has changed since then, but I think there is also a beauty in becoming comfortable with how we are ageing.

My favourite face cream is a frankincense one from Oleo skincare . She is based in Dorset and hand makes small batches.

Here’s to growing old- it definitely beats the alternative!

We should remember that growing old is a privilege denied to many.

NotASecret · 12/08/2022 08:22

I'm 48 so not quite there but I can't see myself going down that road. My skin is reasonable - combination of sensitivity and paleness means I've always worn spf and treated it gently - and going by the local Botox merchants' handiwork on show around town, I'd only end up looking like a shell shocked carp anyway.

Tabbouleh · 12/08/2022 08:24

I use tretinoin ( which I get from overseas) and ordinary sunscreen and moisturiser. It's made a huge difference to the quality of my skin. But I definitely do have jowls and dark circles post the pandemic.

I am lucky to have a DH who is ageing even worse and is not very vain. Also have never been beautiful; just average. Plus I am in a profession where everybody dresses down.

Me. Don't know anyone that does it to be honest. Oh, one much older woman who used to have lip fillers actually but even she's stopped that because of the duck lip look.

MilitantFaucet · 12/08/2022 08:25

52, use plenty of potions and lotions but no Botox or fillers. I’m lucky in having slightly oily skin (although teenage me would disagree!) which I think helps as I age.

Oh yes. I was almost disfigured with acne when I was in my teens. And now my skin is repaying me:)

I'm mid 40's and I am mot going down that route!
I do feel sorry for my DD as we obviously still have a choice and not having botox or fillers is totally acceptable.
It might not be like that in the future. (Unless of course it is found to be impacting public health massively, like smoking or too much sun ect.)

EquallyDivided · 12/08/2022 08:27

While my friends may be keeping quiet, I have never noticed any changes in their faces to suggest they've had work and I think we are pretty open with each other about such things, I'm open about having had my non-existent brows tattooed, one of them has had laser hair removal etc.

I have a DD too. She has a chronic illness so we have been through the wringer the last two years. After all those mandatory medical procedures and doctor's appointments, I don't want to see any more doctors for an optional procedure!

I am 56 and only use oil of Olay on my face. I dint use foundation and other stuff. I wear minimal makeup. I have great skin, albeit with some wrinkles. Doesn't bother me at all.

Lollypop701 · 12/08/2022 08:37

Sorry I love my Botox but not doing anything else… not sure why fillers fill me with dread, maybe seen too many bad cases and they are always noticeable to me… only one friend of 7 hasn’t had anything and she looks lovely so it’s just preference

Chakraleaf · 12/08/2022 08:38

I won't do it. It just looks like a 50yr old that's had botox....so it doesn't make you actually look younger

I'm aging as nature intended (maybe some nivea)

Hoppinggreen · 12/08/2022 08:41

Me
I havent decided against Botox, fillers etc it just hasn’t occurred to me to have them. None of my friends have as far as I know and it’s just not a thing in my circle.
I am 50 and look fine (bit fat but it smooths the wrinkles) so I doubt I will ever get anything “done”
I don’t mind getting old, the alternative is worse

Drivebye · 12/08/2022 08:45

I am surprised that you seem to think that the default is that women think about doing these things i.e. they are normal. I would have thought more people don't do it and don't even think about it! I must be a bit behind the times....

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 12/08/2022 08:47

I'm in my 50s and definitely won't have anything like that done. I've not worn make-up since my 20s (and even then it was minimal), and I don't moisturise even now. During lockdown I decided to embrace my grey hair and stopped dying it. I am most definitely growing old naturally, but I don't mind - I've reached the point where I no longer wish to compete with youngsters.
