Anyone in their 50s and decided against Botox, fillers or anything but face cream?

I just wondered, prompted by the many recent threads. And not because you can't afford it either. I can afford them but have decided to age naturally for various reasons.

Feeling a little lonely though!

To be fair, on every thread for women with Botox, there are always contributors from women who come and tell us how crap we look.

You are free to return the favour, I suppose, I am not posting any pix of myself:)

You don’t need to post a picture to be told you look crap. If you admit to botox, lots of Mumsnetters automatically just know you must look weird. You can see that from this thread too😉

I do find it interesting that women who have not had interventions tend to be more critical of women who have than the other way around. I have seen posters with Botox being critical of themselves, but never seen them say other women without Botox look bad.

Why would you expect this? This thread excludes people with money concerns, so if we thought women looked better with Botox, we would get it ourselves!

Obviously I don't think that women look better with Botox. That is not a personal attack against anyone in particular.

It’s fine not to want Botox, but you don’t have to qualify it with other women never looking good with Botox like some posters. These threads are full of women slagging off women who have made different choices than them. Can you not see it?

CuriousMama · 18/08/2022 16:27

This thread made me dream I had botox. I looked pretty fresh after it 😃
Although they did it in huge frown lines I don't actually have.

GotTheConch · 18/08/2022 16:29

53, no fillers or Botox. Almost none of my friends have any of this.

NeedWineNow · 18/08/2022 17:11

Me. I will be 60 in a couple of weeks. I don't like injections at the best of times so the thought of having anything injected in my face, particularly round the eyes, fills me with dread.

I tentatively broached the idea of Botox with DH one day, just to see what his reaction would be. Conversation went like this - we were in the car:

Me (peering in car mirror) : do you think I need Botox?

DH: Yes you are

Me: Sorry?

DH: oh sorry, I thought you said 'am I talking bollocks ' and if you're referring to Botox then yes, you are talking bollocks

which just about summed it up really......😁

Posted too soon

I meant to say that I know several people who have had it - one had it for migraines which I'd never heard of I must admit - and each to their own but it's just not for me.

It's very existence and all the marketing around it and all the people who say they look 'fresher' 'less angry' and so on with it (and there is a lot of that on MN) would suggest that women without it look bad/stale/angry etc

Yogagirl72 · 18/08/2022 18:38

I think I look fresher with Botox. It makes me look like I have had a good nights sleep and that I am relaxed and not constantly frowning. I don’t think too much about what other women do or don’t do.

Botox, used sparingly, just reduces wrinkles and helps prevent more

Does it? It's been around for decades now, yet I'm not seeing any magically wrinkle-less older women. Obviously it reduces wrinkles while you keep using it, but there is no evidence that it has any long-term effect. Even clinics flogging the stuff admit that it doesn't prevent wrinkles forming.

I would say it has prevented my 11’s getting worse and mine are smoother now than they were 15 years ago (although rest of face obviously aged!)

It kind of took away the habit I had to frown and squint when I was thinking or worried. Similar as someone who has a habit of twiddling their hair will stop it by having a crop.

I didn't have an eleven! I had a 'one' right in the middle and it was horrible, made me look so cross. I had botox a few times between ages of 40 and 44 but then stopped. 52 now but I swear my 'one,' is less pronounced now than it was 12 yrs ago.
I do look older though, not saying I look 40.

faffadoodledo · 18/08/2022 20:45

Ah well. I'm angry and not fresh! Actually I I don't think I am. I think those are marketing words. My face just looks older. My bod isn't bad though. And when I joined a Pilates class recently the teacher said I 'moved well, like someone who is athletic' despite the classes being new to me. I'll take that!

Interesting, but it does seem like botox would help prevent wrinkles deepening because while it's working, your skin isn't sitting in that position iyswim. Most people find that after a couple of botox treatments you can go much longer before the lines start to become noticeable again.
For me, a very light touch botox just relaxed my frown lines. I told the doctor that I had no desire to look like a 35 year old, just a less frowny 50-something. It's been 10 months since my last one and the 11s are starting to bother me again.

StillMedusa · 18/08/2022 22:12

54 here and nothing but a slap of Oil of Olay .
And long (thankfully thick and healthy) greying hair which I love.
I'm ageing. I don't look 20 or 30 or 40. I'm slim and it doesn't help the wrinkles any, but I can kayak, paddle board, walk miles with the dog, run around softplay and the park with my toddler grandson while amassing freckles on this ageing skin.... and that's what matters to me.

My step Mum in her 80s has a completely wrinkled face...and looks utterly beautiful to me.. a face that has lived and loved. I prefer that look!

milkyaqua · 19/08/2022 00:39

Another way to look "fresher"...
