Anyone in their 50s and decided against Botox, fillers or anything but face cream?

I just wondered, prompted by the many recent threads. And not because you can't afford it either. I can afford them but have decided to age naturally for various reasons.

Feeling a little lonely though!

cost of living crisis, most ppl including most women can't afford things OP said in normal times, never mind now

I'm 52 and have had Botox on and off since I was 40. Quite a light effect.

Last round was in 2020 January. I haven't had it since, as I'm just not bothered anymore. Although I'm not very wrinkly as I've had Botox for 10 years.

FunsizedandFabulous · 12/08/2022 08:52

I have deep lines in my forehead at 44. I have been concerned about them in the past but I now accept them. I would never use Botox etc. I maintain a fringe, however, which helps. Getting treatments like that just never enters my head.

user1474315215 · 12/08/2022 08:53

I'm in my 70s and I take care of my appearance but I've never even coloured my hair, so I'm certainly not considering anything invasive. I know a few people in the thirties who do though.

starrynight21 · 12/08/2022 08:55

I'm 63 and I've never thought about it. I use Nivea cream, and my face is as good as I could expect at my age. I know a couple of women who've had work done but tbh they look unnatural.

My DD gets Botox on a couple of deep creases in her forehead, which she hates - the Botox does make a nice difference so I'm happy she has that option. But I wouldn't bother for myself.

cantley · 12/08/2022 08:56

I'm late 50s, won't intervene
.
I think it's extremely personal.
My friend who is the same age had her first and only child at 44 and doesn't want her child to feel self conscious about having an older mother so has been doing very subtle Botox for quite a few years and keeps up colouring her hair to cover the greys.

Another friend is in the corporate world where women are subject to a lot of age discrimination so she tweaks too.

I wouldn't judge anyone for their decision.

ThePoetsWife · 12/08/2022 08:56

Me!

Had greasy skin as a teen and as a non smoker who has tried to protect her skin from the sun I look reasonably ok. I gave up dying my hair which has improved its condition and I prioritise getting a decent haircut and styling it nicely. I also wear lipstick and eye make up.

boatahoy · 12/08/2022 08:58

I've not had anything done. One friend had fillers round her mouth/lips and it was very obvious so put me off. However, another friend had some Botox around her eyes and she looked amazing - like herself but no longer looked tired. I decided I didn't want to take any chances of anything going wrong so have avoided botox and fillers so far but had my teeth done, use anti ageing moisturiser, eye cream etc. I also have regular hair colour and cuts.

AmandaHoldensLips · 12/08/2022 08:59

I know a few women who have botox, fillers, and other "tweakments". Frankly it looks bloody awful. They seem really pleased with their appearances, but I think it's like a form of dysmorphia where they think they look normal and natural. They don't.

Good luck to them, but it's definitely not for me.

ThePoetsWife · 12/08/2022 09:00

Oh and one of the most anti aging things I've done (as well as not smoke or sunbathe) is to get my teeth fixed with braces. This has made a huge difference to my face shape and my smile.

AnyFucker · 12/08/2022 09:00

Not had a thing “done”

I use Oil of Ulay on face, cheapo body moisturiser, hand cream and that’s it apart from my hair which I do look after with regular trims and highlights.

Eddmr · 12/08/2022 09:02

I'm 48 and haven't "done" anything but increasingly feeling the pressure. Even my male dentist said to me, "everyone should have Botox". What is wrong with looking your age? I'm not 38 and have no wish to look 38.

Lulu1919 · 12/08/2022 09:02

I don't do anything I know I should ...I mean creams etc
53 - my adult daughters say I've got good skin....but it's definitely softer ( saggy ! )
I do rub on a bit of moisture now and then ...but it's all old stuff !!!
Any thoughts what I should buy ???
Always use factor 50 face sun screen and body screen when in the sun

InTheCup · 12/08/2022 09:02

I'm 50 very soon and haven't had anything done. A few of my friends have and several of the kids in their 20's have had lip fillers.

SaltyCrisp · 12/08/2022 09:05

Reading MN I sometimes feel like I'm the only woman in her 50s with crows feet and other lines. I don't get ID'd when I buy alcohol, no one ever thinks I'm 35, in fact I generally don't tell people my age, it just doesn't come up.

I'm not without vanity, I get my hair coloured and my teeth whitened.

DappledThings · 12/08/2022 09:06

Only 43 now but can't see myself ever going down that route. I don't put anything on my face except a little sulphur soap which allegedly helps with rosacea and water. I don't know what any of these different creams are.

Squirrelsnut · 12/08/2022 09:07

I'm not having anything done and no-one I know has ever mentioned it. Like a pp, I still have oily skin at 52 so my lines are minimal.

Twiglets1 · 12/08/2022 08:16

I’m the same - I’m just ageing naturally though I could afford Botox etc

Yep, me too. I wear makeup that suits me and looks natural but I’m definitely not having any interventions. I’m also looking forward to going properly grey so that my fine hair gets a bit of body for the first time in my life!

bigTillyMint · 12/08/2022 09:09

rumred · 12/08/2022 08:20

57 and natural. I'd rather not be sagging and aging but that's the way life is so I accept it. Life is way too short to waste money on such superficial and surely ultimately soul destroying stuff. You never know when your number is up...

This.

I am trying to remember to use spf on my face daily, but I use Nivea and similar cheaper creams (unless I have a beauty box/advent calendar to try) - I look fine without my glasses on 🤣

WhatHaveIFound · 12/08/2022 09:14

I'm 53 and haven't had any enhancements, neither do I use face cream. Make up is for special occasions though I'm always very careful in the sun. I'm often told I don't look my age. The only giveaway is my greying hair.

Is Botox and fillers the norm now as they aren't in my group of friends?

JanePrentiss · 12/08/2022 09:15

Nope, not had anything done, and it shouldn't seem strange to remain natural.. That's what worries me

Midlifemusings · 12/08/2022 09:18

Almost 50 here and aging naturally. Grew up in a family that aged naturally as well and have never seen appearance as what defines me as a person. A couple of my close friends do all the procedures but they have always been very into their appearance and have been doing various beauty treatments for years. I am not sure if they fear aging or just really define themselves by their looks. I feel a bit sad that they have never been able to be content with their own face and have spent so much time and money changing it, but for them, they would be very distressed to age naturally so it makes sense for them to keep doing work on it. If they need that for their mental health, then do it.

Letsrunabath · 12/08/2022 09:19

I’m mid 50s and up till 48 had Botox every 6 months.
I stopped as I didn’t want to look like a 50 year old with Botox. Personal choice, I have friends in their 50s still having it, it just wasn’t a look I wanted anymore.

Worldgonecrazy · 12/08/2022 09:21

Meant to add, I moisturised using E45 cream every day since I was 18, I switched to ‘proper’ moisturiser in my mid 30s. I think daily moisturiser is the best advice we can give our children.

Subbaxeo · 12/08/2022 09:24

I’m coming up to 60 and just use sunscreen and night moisturiser. I’d never have anything done to my face. I see too many people who just look a bit ‘off’-eg when they talk some of their face moves but not the rest of it. Little lumps appearing under the skin when they do certain expressions. And even when it works, they look well preserved rather than youthful. A good haircut goes a long way to disguise my frown lines! But interestingly, my DD is 25 and having Botox already-she says it’s preventative😁
