Anyone in their 50s and decided against Botox, fillers or anything but face cream?

I just wondered, prompted by the many recent threads. And not because you can't afford it either. I can afford them but have decided to age naturally for various reasons.

Feeling a little lonely though!

OP posts:

I am 50 and don't even dye my hair 😄, am not planning on Botox/tweaks whatever either

I am really into hair care and skin care though. I am
Also into keeping slim(ish) and fit. I do a lot of sport and mostly eat a healthy diet.

Love nice clothes too and dressing boho/ feminine

So it is not as if I don't care about my appearance

But am planning to age naturally

My friends have not had any procedures either. I know some women at work and at my sports club have, I lived a few years in Argentina and there ALL middle class mums had lots of stuff done (face, boobs, tummy tuck etc), they felt it was needed to stop their men from straying with a younger model, there was a lot of peer pressure too. They thought of me as a bit conceited for thinking I did not need anything done Grin It really put me off all this kind of stuff tbh

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 12/08/2022 10:20

My mum is 60 next year and does nothing. She looks amazing.

RatherBeRiding · 12/08/2022 10:21

Mid 60s - never had anything, never will. I use nothing other than moisturiser. But I've been blessed with great skin genes, don't smoke or drink and get loads of fresh air and exercise and have always had a healthy diet. I am also blessed with hardly any grey hair and still a size 10. Personally I think I look my age but I don't care! I AM this age but am active and healthy - and grateful for it.

Wellthatgotbetter · 12/08/2022 10:23

I’m 52. I’ve had a thread lift and some Botox between my eyebrows for a horrible frown line. The people saying “you can tell if someone has had work” are wrong. Find the right surgeon and it’s fine, you just look less tired.

WolverineBluey · 12/08/2022 10:24

I havent decided against Botox, fillers etc it just hasn’t occurred to me to have them.

This, definitely. Even if I could afford it (I can't) it is just not something I'd wish to spend my money on.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 12/08/2022 10:25

I'm in my 50s and would never consider botox or fillers. I love my face cream. Also going to try facial exercises, facial yoga. And of course healthy food, water, general fitness.

Wellthatgotbetter · 12/08/2022 10:25

The thread lift was on my jaw and saggy neck by the way. So I just looked firmer. I still have some lines/wrinkles. I don’t want to look younger. I just want to not look knackered.

oh and I had some filler under my eyes. That made a massive difference. I look like me again instead of Myra Hindley.

Middledazedted · 12/08/2022 10:25

Have spent a month in France and am sat currently outside a patisserie where a woman of around 70 is going inside wearing a blouse and shirt shorts in a summery hearts print in red and pink. She is wearing canvas wedges and bright lipstick. She looks amazing. She is wrinkled and tanned and made me think about how I haven’t seen any fake eye lashes, super smooth foreheads or big lips. The are looking so much better than the iver plumped and smoothed. Tweakments all seem to go too far at some point.

CrotchetyQuaver · 12/08/2022 10:26

Late 50's and never done it.

I've finally allowed my hair to be grey, it actually looks quite blonde/highlighted in some light, in others it's silver. Suits my skin tone so much better than when I was having it coloured.

The only things that bother me are my eyelids and lips getting thinner, but not so much I want to have anything done about them.
I know everyone ages differently and genes and diet/lifestyle play a big part but I am not a fan of these "enhancements" I fear further down the line some of these women will end up looking awful, like photos of those people who have had masses of plastic surgery.

I prefer to go with it, I consider wrinkles to add character rather than be imperfections. I just try to smile a lot so the wrinkles are good ones!

JasmineVioletRose · 12/08/2022 10:27

People who use it always end up looking odd eventually. Which kind of defeats the purpose imo 🤷🏻‍♀️

DappledThings · 12/08/2022 10:27

ButtonintheBox · 12/08/2022 09:38

Thing is - lots of you are saying you have fine lines or minimal signs of ageing. So once again I feel like I'm the only one with deep lines 😕 Surely not!

I have no idea if my lines are fine or deep ones. I don't look that carefully. I don't know what constitutes a fine line or a deep one.

Up till I was about 30 I looked really young. Was regularly getting ID'd still. Have now cheerfully caught up. Am now 43 and pretty sure I look about that but I am shit at guessing anyone's age and never spend any more time in front of the mirror that it takes to brush my hair!

I do sometimes admire how much grey hair I have. It's a lovely mix of grey and brown now.

LadyPoison · 12/08/2022 10:28

Yes - I became resistant to botox after a couple of years. It simply stopped working.

Not keen on the idea of fillers at all. Occasional moisturiser when I remember but my skin is far better without it. I sometimes feel a bit guilty about it and do start a regime but the more I use, the drier my skin becomes. Almost as if it ceases to maintain itself. As soon as I stop it then after a day or two, my skin is no longer dry.

I do dye my hair though!

Middledazedted · 12/08/2022 10:29

Wellthatgotbetter - am glad you are happy with what you have had done. My post wasn’t a rely to yours. Am thinking I would look less tired if I moved to France permanently so might save for that!

DontKeepTheFaith · 12/08/2022 10:30

I think most people don’t have anything done, a minority will have a small amount done, it’s a very small minority that have a lot done. It’s not for me, I’m too lazy for high maintenance and I don’t think it’s attractive anyway.

I’m late 40’s but not doing anything beyond moisturiser, sunscreen and foundation. Don’t even dye my hair, I’m embracing the grey.

I have never particularly attractive so I guess it’s easier🤷‍♀️

Silverfinch · 12/08/2022 10:33

I think it's incredibly rare for most normal people.

PlanetNormal · 12/08/2022 10:34

I’m in my 50s, and I have no intention of getting Botox, fillers or anything of the sort, never mind cosmetic surgery. I have many faults, but vanity isn’t one of them.

Seeingadistance · 12/08/2022 10:36

Drivebye · 12/08/2022 08:45

I am surprised that you seem to think that the default is that women think about doing these things i.e. they are normal. I would have thought more people don't do it and don't even think about it! I must be a bit behind the times....

M’y thoughts too.

maddy68 · 12/08/2022 10:36

I have Botox but very very subtly. I doubt anyone would know. I still have movement and I can frown but it's softer

I suspect many people do and do y say anything to anyone

TeacupDrama · 12/08/2022 10:37

i'm 54 I'm never getting botox fillers or indeed anything else, i wash face and apply moisturiser and sunscreen if going outside in bright sun( about 6 times a year) as I'm fair but in west coast of scotland more likely to have vitD deficiency than sunburn or even sun damage, I mostly wear sun hat if outdoors in bright sun
I have no intention of dying my hair but am still naturally blonde ( have never dyed my hair) so I know it is easier for me to say when i'm not grey at all
I have never smoked sunbathed and drink alcohol rarely I look my age but try and dress to suit my figure etc, I don't do much makeup in fact none most days

Fraaahnces · 12/08/2022 10:37

Me... I work in a hospital and know how very lucky I am to be getting older. I spent a long time in my younger days on stage, and using my face to show emotion connected me to my audience . I don't want that ability taken away from me. My skin (so far) is good because I have been oil cleansing and wearing a high spa sunscreen for most of my life and also using tretinoin. I also drink water and eat a low-inflammation diet. I don't like the waxy, shiny faces I see on instagram.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 12/08/2022 10:39

44 and won't be doing injectables. I don't see the point. Unlike lots of posters I definitely look my age, but it comes to us all sooner or later. I have two friends who have had good Botox for years, but while they look great they also look "done" and imho this means they don't look younger.

Perhaps if I were better looking I might feel differently? But if I had injectables I'd still have my big ole' nose and wonky teeth, and then where do you stop?

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 12/08/2022 10:43

Much older here (69). I only ever used moisturiser, people think I am in my 50s - but I do colour my hair. My sister is the same. I think this stuff is largely genetic.

krill · 12/08/2022 10:44

Yes, the people who do get these treatments will be in the minority.

For anti ageing Tretinoin as alternative will take a couple of years and then you'll squint hard to see which were the before photos! Sadly the best results I've seen have been in combination with fillers and other procedures.

MiniTheMinx · 12/08/2022 10:53

I'm 49 and I've never had botox or fillers. I don't even get anything done with my eyebrows or nails, I just can't be bothered. I use moisturiser that I buy in a local health food shop. I've tried expensive creams but I prefer what I'm using now. It comes in lovely glass jars that look nice on the shelf. I don't think any of the creams do much, so I may as well choose something that looks nice, smells nice and at least comes in recyclable glass jars that look a bit luxury.

Having said all that I'd like to try fillers, I want to restore my face shape by giving myself cheeks like a chipmunk. I've tried gaining weight but I can't keep it on, I think being thinner is very aging. I can afford it, I just never get round to it, and probably never will because its not a one shot thing and ultimately I'm useless at making appointments.

krill · 12/08/2022 10:53

The unlined, allegedly look 10/20 years younger crowd, but only use Ponds or Nivea cream. There's always lots of those on these threads, no photos of proof ever provided though 😅
