For me:

  • Fake tan - it looks shit on my Celtic white skin, smells shit, makes a mess, takes too much time and is expensive. I gave up on it about age 22

  • Wearing rings and bracelets. I realised at the age of 38 that I never put them on because I hate the feeling of my hands being constricted. Especially as I type all day long.

  • Uncomfortable shoes. Life is too short to hobble.

Mascara. I dye my lashes sometimes. But mascara just seems too much. Not sure why.

I hear you, I have long lashes and I just look try too hard and I hate taking it off!

DonateBloodNCheckSmokeAlarms · 31/07/2022 14:48

@PuppyMonkey I get 100% cotton pants in Tesco.
Was horrified to find M&S's everyday pants are not always pure cotton!

Thanks OP, I have looked in Tesco previously but never found any - it’s been a while so will check them out again.

M&S have been taken over by the Lycra brigade. And I find if you ask an assistant they don’t seem to understand I want 100% cotton, not just their “cotton rich” nonsense.

DonateBloodNCheckSmokeAlarms · 31/07/2022 14:59

@PuppyMonkey I bought two 4 packs of 100% cotton black high leg pants in Tesco just yesterday. I recommend sizing up as they seem small.
Yes, M&S you can fuck off with your "cotton rich"!
Some pants can't be described as "100% cotton" because of the elastane used in the trims, so check the label, they might still be ok.

Yay, will check Tesco out.

Clothes without pockets.
Dresses with zips at the back.

Sheffieldissunny · 31/07/2022 15:22

Thongs

Sweetlikechocolate6 · 31/07/2022 15:34

Bras

HastaLaBisto · 31/07/2022 15:57

Very noticeable how many unwanted thongs there were in the M&S sale this week - and not a pair of discounted big pants in sight.

My spindly high heel days are over but I'll still do a platform wedge or chunky heels. And it's finally dawned on me that my mum's double knee replacement, gnarly toes and dodgy hips might have had something to do with her unswerving 60 year commitment to stilettos...

Fairislefandango · 31/07/2022 16:00

I've never understood the appeal of thongs. They look horribly uncomfortable and frankly a bit tacky imo.

Scabbersweasley · 31/07/2022 16:01

Jewellery. Like you op I find it really uncomfortable especially on my hands.

People pleasing. If someone annoys me I will just not engage.

Alcohol. Not worth the wasted, tired, shitty day afterwards.

Losing weight. Fat and happy.

fernz · 31/07/2022 16:01

Dying my hair. Actually love the greys that are emerging as I've always been told I look very young (I'm 39).

And definitely the uncomfortable shoes. I wear only "barefoot" style shoes now (like Vivobarefoot) and can't imagine how I used to wear narrow, pointy shoes in the past.

InTheShadeOfTheFigTree · 31/07/2022 16:06

Long complicated skincare routine. Pointless. I use 2 products now.

Any makeup other than mascara (blonde eyelashes) and tinted moisturiser.

Shaving my legs in the winter

Nail varnish. Makes my nails feel clogged anyway.

Heels. Never again.

Anything other than comfy pants.

The one thing I'm really arsed about now is well fitting bras. They've been a complete revelation.

lindyloo57 · 31/07/2022 16:15

Jeans, i have a size 10/12 waist but a slim bum and hips size 8/10 so to get a great fit on the hip and bum they always are too small at the waist, when I am sitting after a meal I have to undo the button, and I hate belts. So it's trousers with maybe half elastic.

KittyCatsby · 31/07/2022 16:19

Thongs
Any form of ' sexy ' underwear
High heels
Saying yes to something when I'm really saying no ( going to places you don't want to )
Giving a shit.

BestIsWest · 31/07/2022 16:20

I was just cleaning in the bedroom and looking at all the necklaces and beads and bracelets I have gathering dust on one of those jewellery stands and realised that I haven’t worn any of them for a good few years.

Sunbun19 · 31/07/2022 16:34

Other people's drama and bullshit

cockandball · 31/07/2022 16:36

New clothes. I rotate a few different tops and that's all I need

Duttercup · 31/07/2022 16:39

@DonateBloodNCheckSmokeAlarms I'm not trying to talk you back into fake tan but the last 5 years...it's got so good. I'm ridiculously pale and remember the patchy orange years well. But, I don't know, I think fake tan technology is the biggest scientific advance of our age (joke, but it is good!)

For me - bras. I can't be bothered. I put an underwired bra on for 10 minutes today. Hideous.

Knittedfairies · 31/07/2022 16:51

Punitive underwear and shoes.
Clothes without pockets.

Crocodiletears6 · 31/07/2022 16:58

maddiemookins16mum · 31/07/2022 17:15
