For me:

  • Fake tan - it looks shit on my Celtic white skin, smells shit, makes a mess, takes too much time and is expensive. I gave up on it about age 22

  • Wearing rings and bracelets. I realised at the age of 38 that I never put them on because I hate the feeling of my hands being constricted. Especially as I type all day long.

  • Uncomfortable shoes. Life is too short to hobble.

High heels, 'keeping up' with certain 'friends'- who I've come to realise are really more acquaintances. So at 44 I've gone back to being 'me'- floaty dresses, Birkenstocks and my comfy boots in winter. No more uncomfy jeans (big bum- small waist and strange peri tummy).

CeeceeBloomingdale · 31/07/2022 03:02

Dressing for men, I now dress for me i.e. comfort. Thongs, heels, dying hair, wearing hair down much of the time, make up (very little when I do), expensive skincare and make up. Justifying myself, flakey friends, spending time with people whose company I don't enjoy, being a pushover. Life is better for it.

xyzabchij · 31/07/2022 03:40

Jewellery
Uncomfortable clothes. I started trying to dress a bit better as my baby got bigger but I've found I still reach for joggers and jumpers. Can't be bothered

IglesiasPiggl · 31/07/2022 05:19

Pencil skirts - so restrictive
Heels - stopped during lockdown and won't go back
Make up - ditto

StarlightLady · 31/07/2022 07:03

Wearing knickers with a summer dress. 😉 That will change when it gets cooler though!

Uncomfortable shoes.

DramaticSunflower · 31/07/2022 07:08

being out of shape and wearing unfashionable clothes and sensible shoes.

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 31/07/2022 07:17

Makeup - I haven’t worn any for several years
Faffing with my hair - I have a simple bob that’s beautifully cut so I don’t even have to blow dry it if I don’t want to
Wearing uncomfortable underwear/clothes in order to look smart - retired so it’s comfort every time now!

I also came to this realisation recently. And I’m enjoying finding myself again.

Blonde highlights. It suddenly feels out of date, waste of time and expensive. My hair is naturally dark brown and when I find a non goth chocolatey brown hair dye - I’m going for it!

An abundance of purple shampoo

Skinny jeans

Straight hair - mines wavy ish and I can no longer be arsed to get the straighteners out.

Thongs
Bikinis
Most makeup (contouring, eyebrows and highlighter etc)

Basically, all I want is to swan about like Demelza from Poldark with slightly darker hair! 😂

Naughtyperson972 · 31/07/2022 07:32

Everything.
I’ve brushed my teeth and my hair, that’s all I’m prepared to do now. Doesn’t serve me in anyway to do more

Cocolapew · 31/07/2022 10:10

Plucking my eyebrows
Hair dye
Jeans

PuppyMonkey · 31/07/2022 10:26

Perfume of any description.

I haven’t dyed my hair for 2 years.

Tops that don’t cover your bum properly.

lycra knickers (why is it so difficult to buy 100 per cent cotton pants?)

Drinking lots of water (just keeps me up all night needing the loo).

BeanieTeen · 31/07/2022 10:37

Heels and other not particularly comfortable shoes. Trainers and sandals all the way at the moment.

Foundation. I save that just for going out now. But mainly because my skin has vastly improved over the years. Late teens/early 20s I was quite spotty so I wouldn’t leave the house without it.

Maireas · 31/07/2022 10:39

MummyDrinksWine · 30/07/2022 23:57

I agree with the shoes.

I went to a show today and caught a man looking absolutely horrified at my crocs & socks 😂

I suddenly felt about 60.. not 26 🥴

I bet he has moments of looking less than fabulous! Ignore.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/07/2022 10:39

Skimpy knickers
Uncomfortable clothes and shoes

I don't care if they look good!

RaraRachael · 31/07/2022 10:47

So-called family. For some reason I am being ignored and left out of things so I've decided they can all get lost.

TimBoothseyes · 31/07/2022 10:47

What other people think when it comes to how I dress and how I look.

Cam22 · 31/07/2022 11:04

Dotcheck · 30/07/2022 23:56

In the hot weather- underwear

But what about the effect on your clothes? Can’t be very comfortable.

Purplecatshopaholic · 31/07/2022 11:06

Since lockdown - underwear - a revelation to feel so free, lol

SkirridHill · 31/07/2022 11:18

Makeup. I manage mascara at a pinch if I'm going out.

High heels. After an injury a few years ago I can't wear them and actually don't miss them.

Anything other than enormous granny pants. I bloody love having a pair of knickers that go over and around everything I've got.

Can't be arsed with worrying about how I look. I used to be horribly conscious about what other people thought of me but now I dress in what I like and what fits me comfortably.

StarlightLady · 31/07/2022 11:27

No knickers with a summer dress is not uncomfortable. It makes you feel free!

TheDuchessOfMN · 31/07/2022 11:32

Like you, OP, fake tan. I cringe looking at my wedding photos.

Heels

mascara

No longer get my nails done

Perfume

I actually get my eyebrows tinted and shaped more regularly than I used to

rookiemere · 31/07/2022 11:40

Bikini line waxing- expensive, time consuming and painful. I now use a bikini hair removal cream instead.

orbitalcrisis · 31/07/2022 11:46

Make up, hair removal, high heals, dating...

Fairislefandango · 31/07/2022 11:53

Heels (at all, not only proper high ones), nail polish on fingernails. I gave both of those up decades ago though. Fancy/expensive skincare - ditto. I use Aldi cleanse & polish dupe and Aldi moisturiser and it's just as good as anything I ever paid more for. Proper foundation - I just wear cheap BB cream now and my skin looks better.
