Hello fragrant friends,

This is edition 33 (!) of the long running perfumista threads.

Newbies most definitely welcome. Come and discuss your Scent Of The Day (SOTD), old favourites, new infatuations, the best dupes and scents of any price point. We are very friendly! 😊

Definitely starting to think about Christmas gifting - I know my mother in law liked Fidji but it's out of production now. So I could try to look for a vintage bottle or maybe something a bit similar (would welcome suggestions).

Am also going to Rome for a long weekend with my sisters in October so will have a chance to check out duty free, and maybe a look at the Acqua di Parma shop there.

Bean to cup coffee machine sounds great @Chevyimpala67 - my OH loves the cold brew kit I got him a few years back and drinks it every day now. I got him a coffee subscription during lockdown which was a massive success also.

Sotd is Clinique Calyx. This used to be my signature pre-kids & I wore it for years & now I'm really craving it. I wonder if it's my subconscious mind telling me my child rearing days are nearly coming to an end. Youngest has two more years of school to go now...

There's a local company who roast their own beans and I'd like to try them.

I love Cinnabar @Chevyimpala67 It's one of my Christmassy smells along with CK Obsession and SL Arabie. I love it so much I wish I could wear it all winter long, but it smells just like Christmas to me and I feel wrong wearing it any other time - I leave it for Nov/Dec. You're right though, it's very, very spicy (and absolutely perfect imo)! I sometimes even layer it with Youth Dew. 😊

My Dr botanicals order has arrived...

Ds2 will like the various bits and bobs but very small tubes/pots!

I would have been quite unhappy if I'd paid full price...

@Chevyimpala67 It’s annoying when everything is tiny samples, good you got it for a bargain price though and they do make good stocking filler type gifts. I got my Rituals stuff today, all smells lovely and a lot more subtle than the Bath & Body Works things I’ve been trying recently. No point wearing perfume with some of those. I put some In the Stars body lotion on the other day and DP commented on it as soon as I walked in the room and my neighbour did too when we were standing out in the garden. At least they both liked it!

SOTD is a sample of EL Sensuous Stars. This one’s not for me, too fruity (plum, I think).

They are ok - 30ml tubes - but they should have been 70% more (!)

I treated myself to a coffee facial exfoliator and got a free firming night cream :)

Not keen on the hand cream so I'll give that to mum.

I'm desperate to try kerosene follow and followed...they sound amazing!

I am deeply unhappy that they are US based :(

Can I join the thread? I’ve ordered the vanilla samples from Escentual - I haven’t tried many vanilla perfumes so looking forward to them.

Can I ask how you store your perfumes? I like to have mine looking pretty on my dressing table but have read that you should keep them out of the light. I’ve acquired quite a few so am hoping they will last for a few years. Do you find they deteriorate in the light?

It's best to keep the perfumes you aren't using in their box or in dark place away from direct sunlight and heat sources
Perfumes can degrade over time, particularly the top notes

I keep my perfumes in their boxes in a drawer, partly to keep them away from light but mainly because I don't have a dressing table! I've also got a couple of tins to keep samples and travel sprays in.

SOTD is Christian Louboutin Loubirouge, another Perfume Society sample. I like this one - it's cardamom, iris and vanilla, so it's warm, a bit spicy and a bit powdery. I'm not sure I'd get a full bottle but the PS sample is a decent sized 4ml, so enough to be going on with.

I keep mine in a drawer in the bathroom cabinet, but if they were on the dressing table, the cat would probably knock them off anyway.

You know what, I know I’m very very lucky but I’ve taken over the spare room wardrobe. It’s now a shrine for my handbags and perfumes. I can open the doors to pick a perfume, and they’re all on display in a lovely way, but the rest of the time they’re in the dark. Just wanted to show off about that, sorry! 😆
