Suitable for a wedding?

Morning all,

I have a wedding early September and I'm wanting to go navy and fuschia pink. The reason is I have navy and fuschia shoes and matching bag and a fuschia bolero jacket. I really like this dress but didn't know if it was a bit over the top. I'm an all day guest. Not sure what other info you'll need to give me a hand with this but I'm a size 14, will be 47 then (in case this is too 'young' for me), long blonde hair and 5ft 2". Can't think of anything else to bring context to it...

I also like the fact the 'waist band' seems high as I've got a big menopause belly at the moment but I have quite good legs 🦵

Lovely dress but looks like a bridesmaid to me

BluebellsareBlue · 17/07/2022 08:50

Oops, posted too soon, so I was hoping a dress like this which is shorter at the front would take the eyes away from my belly if that makes sense

Lovely dress but bit OTT for a day guest unless you have an actual role

Whataretheodds · 17/07/2022 08:51

I love it and with a bolero it won't look bridesmaidy.

How dressy is the wedding?

Same

@Whataretheodds that's what I was thinking the bag and bolero could tone it down a bit. It's a dressy wedding wedding, north of Scotland so all kilts and dressed up ladies

Definitely fine for a formal Scottish wedding, I don't think it's bridesmaidy at all. Will look great with the pink too.

MerryMarigold · 17/07/2022 08:55

I think it may be too long in the back if you're 5'2. Looks great on the 6' model! You could always get it and try it on though.

cottagegardenflower · 17/07/2022 08:55

Gorgeous, but far too like a bridesmaids dress. Something similar with a bias cut, swing lower skirt rather than the chiffon.

Maireas · 17/07/2022 08:56

It doesn't look like a bridesmaid dress to me. Go for it.
Plus - you're not too old for it!

SunnieShine · 17/07/2022 08:57

I think your outfit is lovely and colourful. And don't worry about it being "too much" - it is a dressy wedding, and its good to make the effort.

Have a fabulous day.

Threetulips · 17/07/2022 08:59

It’ll look great with the shoes and jacket.

Prfect for September.

Id be delighted at 47 if someone mistook me for a bridesmaid!

Aquamarine1029 · 17/07/2022 09:01

You'll look like a bridesmaid.

GreenManalishi · 17/07/2022 09:03

I think that it is really flattering for a meno belly ( I feel your pain!) and would look gorgeous for a formal wedding with those accessories. Go for it! Better be overdressed than underdressed anyway.

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 17/07/2022 09:04

It looks more like a cocktail/evening dress. It's v nice though.

BluebellsareBlue · 17/07/2022 09:14

Thank you all so much!!!

I've ordered it to try on and the one that @cottagegardenflower has suggested too. I shall report back

I love it, will be awesome!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/07/2022 09:43

A no from me, sorry. It's very, 'Look at me' and over the top. Also, I don't like it, although obviously that's irrelevant to you!

LadyFlumpalot · 17/07/2022 12:33

It's a very beautiful dress, but as a word of caution as a fellow woman of shorter stature. I recently bought a dipped hem dress in a very similar style. It looked ridiculous on me, it was far too long in the back and the front hemline hit that very unflattering point just below the middle of my calf so it made me look like I had stick legs. I'm 5ft3 and I just don't think they are designed for anyone under 5ft9.

I may be wrong, but that's my experience!

Absolutely! If you can't get all dressed up for a wedding, when can you?

TizerorFizz · 17/07/2022 13:48

It’s not a formal dress though. It’s an evening dress you are trying to turn into a formal dress with a bolero. That’s not a great idea in my view. Boleros are mum of the bride and dated. The dress looks a bit dress up box for your age. I would look for waisted, longer length all round and not tulle and not a bolero.
