Suitable for a wedding?

Morning all,

I have a wedding early September and I'm wanting to go navy and fuschia pink. The reason is I have navy and fuschia shoes and matching bag and a fuschia bolero jacket. I really like this dress but didn't know if it was a bit over the top. I'm an all day guest. Not sure what other info you'll need to give me a hand with this but I'm a size 14, will be 47 then (in case this is too 'young' for me), long blonde hair and 5ft 2". Can't think of anything else to bring context to it...

It looks really good! No jacket though, don’t cover everything up.

DramaAlpaca · 20/07/2022 23:46

I think you look fab!

MissMaple82 · 20/07/2022 23:46

But if she has brodesmaids it won't look like bridesmaid dress, unless they have the same dress. It will look lovely, especially with shoes and bag. Definitely go for it

I love it and with a bolero it won't look bridesmaidy.

How dressy is the wedding?

A bolero would look terrible over that dress. It's an evening dress- sticking a bolero over it won't alter that.

Blueberrycreampie · 20/07/2022 23:54

You look gorgeous! The dog has such a lovely expression. I'm going to be honest though and I don't like the dress, sorry. (I don't think the dog likes it either! 🙂

BluebellsareBlue · 17/07/2022 14:54

@TizerorFizz I think I've maybe described it wrongly, it's longer than a bolero, maybe it's just a jacket with no buttons, here a picture of it from a wedding a couple of months ago. Hoping it's not frumpy 😬

That jacket doesn't go with this dress.

Kite22 · 21/07/2022 00:22

If you are aiming for elegance you've probably missed it. Far too low for a wedding.

Nicely put.
It doesn't say 'wedding outfit' to me at all. It is a bit 'look at me'. More perhaps like a 16 yr old would choose for a prom.

Macaroni1924 · 21/07/2022 00:27

Beautiful dress for a wedding and will go lovely with the bag/shoes. Definitely not too old!! Sure you will look lovely 😊

Macaroni1924 · 21/07/2022 00:31

Stunning and yep u do have good legs so show them off! I’m Scottish so been to many a wedding and all very dressy affairs!

fallfallfall · 21/07/2022 00:41

it looks perfect, like the color even more in your photo than online!!

BritInAus · 21/07/2022 01:51

I really like it! Don't think the hot pink jacket goes with it - totally different styles. It's a really fun dress and a gorgeous colour. Totally fine for a formal wedding IMO and not bridesmaidy unless the bridesmaids are wearing that colour too?

@HouseofGods I totally agree, we are def more dress up here for a wedding. I was wondering about the bridesmaid comments as here all our bridesmaids are usually floor length and flowy types. My best was married in Coupar Angus and she married a lovely Englishman and some of the guests wore jeans which took me by surprise, and then for the evening do the whole of the grooms family went and changed into jeans and things for the do. Horses for course I suppose.

I'm from the south of England and have never been to a wedding that guests wear jeans. We all love to dress up!

Haudyourwheesht · 21/07/2022 06:45

To everyone who is saying no jacket, what would you wear with a dress like this? In Scotland it will may be cold so something will be needed.

Maireas · 21/07/2022 07:31

I've lived in London and Yorkshire and never seen or heard of jeans at a wedding - it sounds a bit rude to me.
Make an effort and dress up!

What a horrible comment

Seriously, what's wrong with some people? You can express an opinion without being nasty.

Kite22 · 22/07/2022 16:45

Being "look at me"
isn't a horrible comment.
Some people love to dress that way.
If the OP does (and quite frankly none of us know) then that isn't "nasty" at all.
Some people do like to wear clothes that draw attention. Which is fine if that is their aim.
If the OP is more the shy and retiring type, then she might appreciate knowing that is how the dress might come across to some.
There was a poster asking about a dress she wanted to wear to a wedding a month or two back, that several people said looked like one of those toilet roll covers, and she was quite on board with that - very much her style.
She like the whole 'ruffly' look.
Honest and open opinions is what you are looking for by asking strangers.
If you want your choice reaffirming then ask a friend or family member that you know will say "that's lovely".
If you aren't sure how something looks yourself, then ask the friend (or stranger) who will tell you their opinion honestly, which is what the OP has done by asking here.
It has been said on this thread that many Scottish weddings are far more dressy than the majority of English ones,
so potentially an 'eye catching' outfit will be perfect for this occasion.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/07/2022 16:53

Sorry, OP, but I really don't like it. You're lovely, but the dress just isn't.

BluebellsareBlue · 04/09/2022 04:43

Hello my wonderful vipers!! So the wedding was today in Aberdeenshire, it was beautiful! I did wear the dress with a couple of stitches to keep the girls in. Thank you for giving me the confidence to wear it, I was complimented not only from wedding guest but also from the wonderful wedding staff and asked on four occasions where I bought it. So thank you to all of you that said wear it!

ProperVexed · 04/09/2022 05:44

I want to see the whole outfit as well! You look fabulous considering that photo was taken at the end of the day!

Haudyourwheesht · 04/09/2022 21:33

Yay! Scottish weddings are the best. 💃

BluebellsareBlue · 08/09/2022 10:06

Can you believe I don't have a full length shot!!! I will have one when they lovely couple get their photos back so I will post that one!
