Suitable for a wedding?

Morning all,

I have a wedding early September and I'm wanting to go navy and fuschia pink. The reason is I have navy and fuschia shoes and matching bag and a fuschia bolero jacket. I really like this dress but didn't know if it was a bit over the top. I'm an all day guest. Not sure what other info you'll need to give me a hand with this but I'm a size 14, will be 47 then (in case this is too 'young' for me), long blonde hair and 5ft 2". Can't think of anything else to bring context to it...

I think it looks fine.

BluebellsareBlue · 17/07/2022 14:54

@TizerorFizz I think I've maybe described it wrongly, it's longer than a bolero, maybe it's just a jacket with no buttons, here a picture of it from a wedding a couple of months ago. Hoping it's not frumpy 😬

That's lovely and I think appropriate

TizerorFizz · 17/07/2022 15:02

No. The one on the right isn’t a bolero. It’s an open front jacket I think. Definitely longer than a bolero. Will it over tulle?

CombatBarbie · 17/07/2022 15:10

I ordered this is in the nude/pink for Queens Garden party back in May..... It doesn't sit like that, the netting layers are practically rigid.

I actually think the dress would look odd with that jacket. The dress is pretty but more prom than wedding.

Definitely fine for a formal Scottish wedding, I don't think it's bridesmaidy at all. Will look great with the pink too.

Scottish weddings are definitely more dressy than English weddings.

fizzywat · 17/07/2022 15:18

Forget about what the fashionistas say about them, if ever a dress was made for a slinky flowy (shhh...) pashmina it is this one. jacket/bolero will not look as good.

It's a lovely dress, but I agree about it being bridesmaid like.

We have been to a edding recently where they wore very similar

Whattoread · 17/07/2022 15:27

I like it and think it's very appropriate for a Scottish wedding.

BluebellsareBlue · 17/07/2022 15:36

I totally agree that Scottish weddings seem to be dressier affairs than further south. I've ordered it and will try it on and i do have a lovely pink pashmina so can see what it's like with both. I've still got plenty time if I look like a navy flump in it

Haudyourwheesht · 17/07/2022 16:10

I think it's lovely. I know someone who wore similar to a wedding recently and I certainly didn't look at it and think bridesmaid. Maybe a fascinator or something would make you look more of a guest.

HouseofGods · 17/07/2022 16:31

I'm in Scotland and that's absolutely fine for a wedding up here. The responses may explain why one of DH's relatives (from England) came to ours not looking at all wedding-y.

RuthW · 17/07/2022 16:43

That's an evening dress and not suitable for a wedding.

BluebellsareBlue · 17/07/2022 16:43

@HouseofGods I totally agree, we are def more dress up here for a wedding. I was wondering about the bridesmaid comments as here all our bridesmaids are usually floor length and flowy types. My best was married in Coupar Angus and she married a lovely Englishman and some of the guests wore jeans which took me by surprise, and then for the evening do the whole of the grooms family went and changed into jeans and things for the do. Horses for course I suppose.

I think it's gorgeous and with a bolero will be perfect.

I would avoid the matchy matchy bag and shoes though. Get a navy bag, keep the pink shoes.

Gottoomuchgoingon · 17/07/2022 16:56

It's gorgeous and totally suitable for a wedding.

DelphiniumBlue · 17/07/2022 16:57

It's absolutely lovely, and will look fab with those accessories. It's just right for a wedding!

BluebellsareBlue · 17/07/2022 17:19

Thank you all!! When it arrives I'll post pics with and without matching stuff and pashmina vs jacket and you lovely vipers can keep me right

@BluebellsareBlue I love that dress and I think it would be perfect for attending a September wedding! Navy is so classy anyway and it looks great with fuchsia pink...

Soggycrisps · 17/07/2022 17:28

I think the whole outfit will work great together. It defo doesnt look like a bridesmaid outfit to me. The jacket bags and shoes are a great match. Nice bit of pattern to the bag and shoes. Go for it and have a great time.

TizerorFizz · 17/07/2022 17:41

@BluebellsareBlue
I can assure you only a certain type of person from England wears jeans to a wedding. An oik with no respect for the occasion. I think Scotland has them too!

HaPPy8 · 17/07/2022 17:44

I like it and think just right for a wedding

olympicsrock · 17/07/2022 17:47

I think you will look fabulous! Not bridesmaidy!
