Nice uniform on the Cambridge kids. The Thomas' one was very stuffy.

KillingMeDeftly · 08/09/2022 07:19

Why is Kate grinning like a maniac? Maybe the holidays have been too long and she's just super relieved!

Maireas · 08/09/2022 07:44

That's a really lovely family photo.
It always surprises me how even very expensive dresses are unlined nowadays. I noticed that with Carrie Johnson as well. Women aren't in the habit of wearing slips so they never hang well and look clingy.
Sorry if I sound like an old gimmer! 😊

It's certainly a feeling I can relate to. Grin I was probably the same when my DC went back on Monday!

gluenotsoup · 08/09/2022 09:34

Sheer relief that they’re back I expect!😂
I like the colour of the dress, but like@Maireas I often feel they look cheapened by not hanging properly without lining. It looks to me like it doesn’t fit quite right around the middle, the banded bit around the hips looks a bit big and should be a little higher. Nice, happy picture though, and the children look ready to go rather than formal.

LadyEloise1 · 08/09/2022 09:40

I like Kate's dress.
A gorgeous family photo.
I hope William appreciates what he's got.

Maireas you, iirc and I were on a recent thread extolling the virtues of a slip - an undergarment that stops cling and avoids a transparent fabric calamity ( in my case Smile).
Does anyone remember the transparent in the sun skirt Diana wore in a very early public photo of her ?

viewsoftheshard · 08/09/2022 09:59

I really wish I looked so elegant and relaxed on the school run. And agree on the comments re slips. I have a couple of dresses with them, and actually use them under other ones to get them to hang better. One final point, when are we going to get some more tiara glam? Especially in the U.K., it’s been so long now.

RomainingCalm · 08/09/2022 10:10

Lovely school photos and I like the spotty dress. Rather more elegant than my school run shorts and hoody combo.

I am also a huge fan of slips and have several of the M&S 'stay cool' ones in different lengths and colours.

Serenster · 08/09/2022 10:27

Another slip fan here. I actually was a bit annoyed this summer when it got too hot to wear one under a dress!

gingercat02 · 08/09/2022 14:04

Statement from BP at lunchtime saying there are concerns over the Queen's health. Charles, William and the close family all enroute to Balmoral

Gooseysgirl · 08/09/2022 14:25

I know we're all usually here for the fashion, but this is very sad news indeed if it is going the way I suspect it is. Despite my interest in the fashion, I'm not a huge fan of the institution of the monarchy but I have softened towards HM in recent years and recognise the dedication she has given to her role.

KillingMeDeftly · 08/09/2022 14:43

It will feel strange having to say the King, that's for sure. But I wouldn't say I feel particularly sad as she's had a good long life and now she can be with the DoE again. It sounds like she's suddenly taken a turn but at 96, a quick and peaceful end is not a bad thing.

NiqueNique · 08/09/2022 14:59

Hello everyone

Haven’t been on the thread for what seems like forever...

It feels right to come and spend some time here amongst the gang today. 😔

Serenster · 08/09/2022 15:13

I made a cup of tea and switched the tv on - the BBC are clearly gearing up for a big announcement (they are all in black, Huw Edwards obviously got a quick call to come in and host the rolling coverage). I know it’s not an unexpected event when someone is 96 years old, but she looked so happy and full of life smiling in her Balmoral sitting room just two days ago. I hope whatever happens next is, from her point of view, easy and comfortable.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 08/09/2022 15:21

@NiqueNique I know what you mean.

I know HQM is a 96yr Great Grandmother who's most likely worn out, completely fed up with her worsening health & immobility, missing Philip & maybe ready for that big long journey (my late Great Gran told my Nan & Mum that she'd be going on a long journey the day she passed) but HMQ has been here forever well you know what I mean.......

I do hope however unlikely that she'll be ok..........

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 08/09/2022 15:25

@Serenster I hadn't seen that.
Doesn't sound like good news.

Remember reading in one of my Queen Victoria books that when QV was nearing the end the whole family gathered at Osbourne House, IOW.

iknowimcoming · 08/09/2022 15:35

Feels awful sitting watching the bbc coverage but equally can't bring myself to turn it off Sad

SenecaFallsRedux · 08/09/2022 15:45

I'm watching the news coverage here in the US.

MotherofPearl · 08/09/2022 16:20

It certainly feels like a moment of historical significance. I hope she is comfortable and surrounded by her family.

I know we're a S&B thread but I think HMQ transcends this. I think she even transcends the monarchy itself. I know many on this thread - and in RL - who are not monarchists, but respect the Queen and her long reign.

Maireas · 08/09/2022 16:22

I agree with everyone on here.
I hope that she's comfortable and surrounded by her loved ones and her doggies. 🤞

Just adding myself in here. Hoping the Queen is surrounded by those she loves, in a place she loves.

Maireas · 08/09/2022 16:58

She's always loved Balmoral, hasn't she? She goes out walking every day there, whatever the weather. She loves a good tramp through the heather!

I think the BBC know more than they're letting on. Not that she's actually died, but this does seem to be gearing up to an announcement.

Eaumyword · 08/09/2022 17:18

I've been in a work bubble all day and too drained to put the radio on in the car so I've just heard the news. I hope she'll be ok, don't want to think of her gone.
