I went down a Rania rabbit hole. Blush
Her (half) sister in law is Haya the ex wife of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Is Rania the only wife of her husband ?
I know her father in law had a few wives.
Her fil's second wife ( her mil I think ) was British.
What an exciting / different life she must have led.

Eaumyword · 02/09/2022 15:38

EBGM looks fabulous - I love that white shirt and fun skirt combo and applaud her frugality in reissuing ballgowns. Must save every penny for the next birthday celebration 😂
Not as keen on CPV's outfits but they are definitely her 'signature' look. I love how smiley she is.

KillingMeDeftly · 02/09/2022 15:40

Yes, Abdullah has only ever been married to Rania. His father had 4 wives (not all at once!), the last of which was the American Queen Noor. His mother is English and I think still lives in Jordan. Haya's mother died tragically young, in a plane crash. So naturally the airport in Amman is named after her! I think she might be the only Jordanian queen (thus far) to have been born in Jordan.

KillingMeDeftly · 02/09/2022 15:42

Google reveals that I'm wrong, Alia wasn't born in Jordan!

MotherofPearl · 02/09/2022 15:51

Thanks for the photos to keep us going during these lean royal fashion times.

Nothing can stand between CPV and her florals at this time of the year. Still, she wears them well.

I like EBGM's crisp white shirt and chunky necklace, but am also not a fan of the coral lace number. Your comment made me chuckle Eau!

Rania does look amazing for 52.

I'm guessing people on this thread like jewellery- there's an exhibition coming up at the Design Museum that looks good, of Van Cleef & Arpels pieces:

Doubt there will be tiaras though.

Looks good, @SeaRabbit - interesting pieces.

The Jordanians are a very attractive family, aren't they? I hope Rania doesn't go too far down the surgical route, though, she's naturally beautiful.
I like EBGM look - the skirt and white shirt is a good combo.

Looking at that picture of Rania with the kids and fiancés, I'm wondering if the new fiancée is a bit conscious of having a 'good side' and turned that way toward the camera? That's how it looks to me, and explains the odd posture between them.

They all look incredibly well-groomed!

Tinitiny · 02/09/2022 17:36

Lean fashion times indeed.

Down a tiara rabbit hole - Tatler bring us one I haven't seen before. Not too shabby though 👑

MotherofPearl · 02/09/2022 17:43

Ooooh, we've not had Tatler's Tiara of the Month for a while now. That's very pretty. I've found this image of Princess Andree wearing it.

What a gorgeous picture! How glamorous. I love those halo tiaras.

That’s a lovely pic.
It sits very nicely, looks more substantial on the tatler pic.

gluenotsoup · 02/09/2022 19:06

Ooh, that’s beautiful! Not too big, not too Claire’s Accessories 🥰.
Hope to see some royal style soon, these are lean times indeed!😂

Ooooh! S6 of The Crown is happening. Kate and William actors announced

MotherofPearl · 03/09/2022 11:42

That is something to look forward to! The actress they've cast as Kate is a reasonably good likeness - and it's her first big role!

Eaumyword · 03/09/2022 14:00

Ooh fab. I've really enjoyed The Crown all the way through.

justasking111 · 03/09/2022 14:26

I'm not coming with portraying the royals in a pseudo drama role so chose not to watch it. Did I miss some posh frocks??

KillingMeDeftly · 03/09/2022 14:31

I've really enjoyed the Crown but feel they should stop after the death of Diana, or maybe the QM or Princess M. Nothing in the past 20 years has been quite as dramatic and it's so recent that it doesn't feel like history!

Maireas · 03/09/2022 14:42

I'm a bit concerned to hear that The Crown is making drama from more recent royal stories. I really liked series 1, with the new Queen, the Duke of Windsor, Philip's boyhood and social history such as the Smog and the Suez Crisis.
Unfortunately, some of the more recent chapters have been used as if they were documentaries by certain people.

OP posts:
Serenster · 03/09/2022 15:08

I enjoyed the first two series, although I was a bit “meh” that they ignored historical facts in order to make a better story (for example I thought it would have been really interesting if they’d actually upended the long held misunderstanding that Margaret had to give up everything to marry Peter Townsend, and told the real story that the Queen and Anthony Eden worked out a deal where she could marry him and keep everything but her place in the line of succession. At which point Margaret decided she didn’t want to marry him. But it didn’t fit with their theme that the Queen would do anything necessary to maintain the stability of the Crown etc etc….). I also really liked seeing the recreations of 50s and 60s fashions and lifestyles.

The closer it got to events I have lived through though, the more the inaccuracies irked me. And the fact that people don’t seem able to realise it’s fictionalised, and written to portray certain themes, definitely annoys me too.

Eaumyword · 03/09/2022 17:28

All good points, hadn't thought from that perspective.
It will be interesting to see what interpretation is placed on relatively recent events, which I suppose depends on who they consult, if they consult at all!
I agree @Serenster about the historical inaccuracies, I noticed the Princess Margaret/Townsend issue too. She could have married him, but princessing was evidently more appealing.
We'll definitely see beautiful jewellery and frocks though.

Chuck and Camz are at Braemar for the Highland Games - it's a shame HM isn't there, she loves it and always attends.
I'm going to say that Charles rocks those bright red socks, and bless Camilla for not being too literal and sticking to plain green.

Sooverthemill · 03/09/2022 18:11

The version I always heard as a child in the 60s was that she couldn't continue in the sting CofE faith if she married a divorced man. She couldn't marry in the church. Attitudes were very strict still. My father wouldn't have my aunt inside our house when she divorced!

Maireas · 03/09/2022 18:28

Goodness! It just shows you what attitudes were like. I think recently released documents confirm that the issue was Margaret having to step out of the line of succession if she did marry him.

I like Cam's coat there, very jaunty!
