This is a good look on Meghan for the launch of her podcast, The first episode features an interview with Serena Williams.

Lovely outfit, but the colour of the sofa 🙈

susiebluebell · 24/08/2022 00:00

I really like the sofa actually! And Meghan looks great.

Trying and failing to not be irritated by the need to have 'Arch' in all their ventures. Archewell, Archetypes... We get it, your son is called Archie!

Eaumyword · 24/08/2022 08:11

@susiebluebell 😂
Meghan looking great in tonal shades, including the sofa!
She does casual chic very well.

Maireas · 24/08/2022 08:39

She does. She may not be interested, but I think she could do a range of casual clothing, like she did for Reitmans before marriage.

I like the tonal outfit. I like the sofa too 🙂

KillingMeDeftly · 25/08/2022 16:42

I did a tour of the State Rooms in Buckingham Palace today. There's a special exhibition on the jubilee that features some of HMQ's jewellery on display.

I saw the Vladimir tiara, Girls of Great Britain tiara and the State Diadem, along with the Delhi Durbar emerald necklace and a few other pieces. All were beyond fabulous but one wonders if she'll ever wear any of them again as they must weigh a lot and she's increasingly frail.

Alas photos were banned but there's information on the exhibition on the RCT site. https://www.rct.uk/collection/themes/exhibitions/platinum-jubilee-the-queens-accession/buckingham-palace

Maireas · 25/08/2022 16:52

That sounds like a really interesting exhibition, Deftly thanks for the link. Such beautiful pieces. It's a sobering thought that we may not see HM in the Diadem again.
I remember seeing some royal jewellery on display years ago, and the pieces sparkled so much it was like they were on fire.

KillingMeDeftly · 25/08/2022 17:03

Actually will we see anyone in the State Diadem or any of those tiaras again? The world has moved on and it feels like the days of frequent grand banquets where everyone was decked out in tiaras and parures are over.

Even pre-covid we'd only see Kate and Camilla in tiaras a couple of times a year and I don't think that will change when it's their turn to be Queen.

Maireas · 25/08/2022 17:06

Actually, I was thinking just the same.
It does seem a pity, because they really should be worn!

Eaumyword · 25/08/2022 19:28

Great link and lovely pictures of the tiaras @KillingMeDeftly
Did you look round the Royal Mews as part of the State Rooms tour? I'd have loved to do that and see the horses - maybe next time.

MotherofPearl · 25/08/2022 19:31

Ooooh, I'm jealous Deftly, that sounds brilliant.

Rania is turning 52 and these portraits have been released. She looks great in the red and black outfit but the mustard one is hideous imo. Erdem, natch.

Max is back! In immense earrings of course!

Max is Back! Great sleeve action.
Rania looks stunning, she's so beautiful. I love the chartreuse outfit.

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/08/2022 20:35

The mustard one reminds me of something worn in Dynasty by Joan Collins

KillingMeDeftly · 25/08/2022 21:21

I'd like to think Maxima's outfit is a tribute to the early 00s ensemble of jeans and a "going-out" top.

Rania looks fabulous but I do wonder what the relationship between her and her future DiL will be like. I can't imagine it'll be easy having a MiL who looks so young and glamorous. Perhaps an indication of how Kate and Meghan would've found it if Diana was still alive!

susiebluebell · 26/08/2022 21:17

Jeans and a going-out top! That takes me back 😁

susiebluebell · 26/08/2022 21:29

I think Rania and the Jordanian royal family might be the least miserable of quite a lot of miserable royal families over there. Not sure that's a high bar to set. She's a pretty interesting person actually, Palestinian heritage, grew up in Kuwait, went to uni in Egypt.

I'm revealing how shallow my interests are but whenever I see a new photo of her, I notice the very high-quality botox etc she's had done, and wonder when she's going to decide to relax into a more mature look. Can't stay looking 25 forever. At a certain point it just looks odd.

KillingMeDeftly · 26/08/2022 22:36

I think there's been a lot of conflict among the Jordanian royals - King Hussain's son by Queen Noor was Crown Prince for a while (despite having 2 older brothers) and is now under house arrest for apparently plotting against the king!

Queen Noor's biography is very interesting but also notable for the almost total lack of mention of King Abdullah and his siblings, which made me wonder if theirs was a strained relationship.

Re "work", Rania has had a lot of it and not just Botox/fillers!

Eaumyword · 26/08/2022 22:41

I fondly remember the late '80's going out' ensemble of worn Levi's, black long sleeved "body"&DM boots! I so thought I looked the biz in them.
I agree Rania looks amazing, but can she relax slightly at some point, lean into her age and maybe feel a bit liberated as a result? Must feel pressure or choose not to.

SenecaFallsRedux · 26/08/2022 23:39

When I was young and single, I had an earlier iteration of skinny jeans (very dark wash) and a red silk "going out" blouse that cost me almost a month's salary. Good times.

Queen Noor's biography is a good read. I read it when it first came out and I was thinking just the other day that I would like to reread it. I met her very briefly in the US in the early 2000s. A spectacularly beautiful woman, even more beautiful in person, very well turned out, and with considerable gravitas.

susiebluebell · 27/08/2022 08:08

I can see how she would have quite a lot of gravitas. I think I would be completely overawed if I met her. Some people just have that effect.

I do think she's one who's gone too far in trying to preserve a moment of youthful beauty. (Silvia of Sweden too, but she's looking less weird than she used to.) I know I said upthread that it was shallow to talk about, but I actually think those choices send out a huge message and have a trickle-down effect to other women. Was it Letizia who was showing off some grey hair recently? So refreshing.

Serenster · 27/08/2022 14:06

It’s one of the things I really like about Queen Maxima (who I think really looks like fashion instagrammer Erica Davies there!) is that she looks like she is leaning into ageing naturally. I’m sure she has had some things done, but she’s clearly happy with a light touch on her face. Like Leti’s grey hair, I think it’s helpful having women in the public eye who are happy to show signs of natural ageing (although they all obviously remain committed to keeping in shape!).

Eaumyword · 27/08/2022 16:18

I quite agree @Serenster and think Max is gorgeous and lives life to the Max!😜

KillingMeDeftly · 29/08/2022 17:12

Some beautiful photos of Meghan accompanying an interview with her by The Cut. (The interview itself is super cringe and won't do her any favours but as this is the style thread I'll refrain from saying any more about that!)

Maireas · 29/08/2022 17:18

She looks very good - a little bit different, but the styling is great and a change of look.
I'm going to agree with you about the article, Deftly, and say no more 😉

OP posts:
Eaumyword · 29/08/2022 19:12

Not keen on her look there, I think it looks hard and in contrast to her styling for that podcast which was much softer and prettier. I always think she looks great with soft waves as opposed to a scraped back hairdo.
That article 😂
I'd like my own invisible hand to light my candles, but will have to make do with my own hands for now 😂
