I hate having big boobs!

There's a current thread where a woman was shamed for being ' flatchested' and whilst I understood how mortified she felt by a so called friend commenting unkindly on it, it did make me think about how very much I dislike my 34g boobs.

Why? Because most fashions don't suit me. I either look frumpy or trashy. Those surrendered wife dresses that are so fashionable right now just look matronly on me, jackets and dresses are either tight on the top or too big on the hips, I have to wear either figure hugging outfits or ones that make me look huge all over, often when I go shopping I feel like I'm am alien as clothes are just not cut to fit my shape.

Even Pepperberry, which has gone out of business, wasn't great. And then, there's a snooty thread saying how you shouldn't wear cardigans, and especially not waterfall ones. Well, those are THE ONLY ONES THAT SUIT MY SHAPE!!

I remember once going on a date with a guy and I was wearing a wrap dress and when I said afterwards why I didn't want t
o go home with him, he said, well why were you wearing a dress like that??

Why is it so hard to find decent clothes..??

For those of you asking how much it is abroad. I did my surgery in a private hospital in Portugal, via the Portuguese NHS. I'm doing an MRI on my foot this week in the same place, so I'll ask to get an idea on how much it is and post it here. Obviously it'll be a rough estimate but it should be in that ballpark. I can recommend my surgeon and also another doctor who operated on my mum's friend (and this lady's friend). These I can vouch from experience.
There's another doctor -where I'm going for a blepharoplasty when I'm brave enough cough cough even though he doesn't know it hahah!- his name is Dr. Edgardo Malheiro but you'd have to email his clinic to see how much he charges, I think he sees people there but he also operates in another private hospital.

Those of you that had the op. Did you find you had to buy a whole new wardrobe or did the stuff you had look ok?

Obviously need to get bras but that's fine. I'm not buying anymore new bras until the op is done.

Gosh, I'll be honest, I didn't have to buy a whole new wardrobe but... 😁 First I bought new bras -the girly ones I'd never worn before like bralettes- after the swelling was gone because I needed those but then I tried dresses that were off limits to me before, by accident really, and I went crazy because I thought I looked awesome! Then I bought a few jackets here and there... A few tops... bikinis...! hahahh
The point is, you only really need bras & swimwear but then it's like a whole new world opens up and you'll want to go a bit crazy because all the pretty things that never looked good all of the sudden make you look fab!

@AliceMcK please reassure your daughter, my 13 year old plays netball and sails and skis and does athletics at school. As long as she has an amazing sports bra (recommend freya dynamic) she can do whatever she loves. The only thing my daughter has found tricky was archery as she was afraid of pinging her boob!

That said I'm sure it'd all be easier without the monster boobies 🤷🏻‍♀️

1moreyear · 04/07/2022 21:27

Whilst we're on this discussion what do you ladies recommend for sore boobs from sweating? I don't really have the issue as I just walk round with my boobs out it sling on a trusty molke bra but my daughter has polyester school shirts and doesn't like to take her blazer off so sweating in between and underneath.

Does liquid talc work for you? I've heard it's good. Also once it's already sore what can she put on it?

For those of you with young girls the ladies at my closest bravissimo have been amazing. I've asked for younger fitters fit my daughter, we first went when she was 12 (and 32GG!) and they have been so lovely talking about what they did at school and the best sports bra and looking carefully for non lacy ones that will fit well.

I have to travel to another town but so worth it! Once I have a couple for her I look for deals online to get more of the same. Also bravissimo do student discount of 10% which includes school kids. I just asked.

I’m 34 H and it’s a pain. I had small boobs pre children and was perfectly happy with that. My advice is Prima Donna bras - way better than cheaper brands. And Rigby and Peller for first fitting. I have considered reduction but ultimately don’t want surgery.

Musmerian · 04/07/2022 21:37

@purdypuma if you’re a size 14 you’re unlikely to be a 38 back size. Worth getting measured properly.

Workyticket · 04/07/2022 21:58

I've found my people - 36hh here

I've been shopping today for an upcoming holiday and come home completely empty handed 😔

Angrymum22 · 04/07/2022 22:06

I’m a 38DD and have to wear size 16/18 tops and dresses but they fit so poorly around the waist and hips.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my bigger droopier boob last year. The good news was that having large boobs means they can easily do lumpectomies and now prefer to do a therapeutic mammoplasty ( breast reduction ) routinely to give better cosmetic results.
My fantastic surgeon removed the lump via an incision round my nipple, internally stitched the breast to give a better shape and lifted the nipple so it no longer pointed down. It now matches my other breast and my boobs although still biggish are still a good shape without a bra.
Many surgeons will do a bilateral breast reduction as part of treatment. I had to consent to them doing both if they felt it was necessary during surgery.
The surgery isn’t without risk but I found that my boob was pretty comfortable after a couple of months. Unfortunately I had to have radiotherapy which takes much longer to recover from. I’m now six months on and although it’s still tender at times the nerve endings have knitted and I have reasonable feeling in the nipple. I actually didn’t really lose the feeling totally after surgery but obviously lots of nerve endings were cut and cause most of the discomfort long term.

Oceanus · 04/07/2022 22:11

If anybody decides to go for the surgery here's my (unsolicited) advice:

  • bras must open at that the front (you don't need surgical bras), no stitching going down the front where the nipple is (it uncomfortable and made me itchy) (doc recommended sports bras from Triumph but any brand's fine), I like the ones with a zipper.

  • Nivea (blue tub) because you need to go heavy on the moisturising (doc recommended it she said it was much better than the expensive stuff)

  • 2 travel air pillows (I got mine from Tiger in a super cheap kit), one to place under each arm so you don't turn around when you sleep

  • before you go to hospital, see where you're going to buy the bra, then make sure you pick what you want and let sb else know, before you leave the doc's going to measure you and tell you what size to get, so it's easier to sort that out ahead; 2 or 3 bras are enough.

  • shirts/pyjamas/dresses, everything with buttons at the front (you have to be careful pulling the arms up because of the stiches not due to the pain)

  • the months before surgery don't waste money on clothes unless it's bottoms

  • Bacitracin on sutures up until they heal (it stains bras and clothes btw).

  • I was told not to drive for a week but I'm ashamed to say I was driving 2 days later, nothing happened but listen to the doc don't risk it! I was an idiot!

Not tried liquid talc but I do use just regular talc for sweating, it’s fantastic. The only thing I use when sore is sudocrem, it’s my go to fix everything cream and you can get tiny pots of it to carry around.

also for when wire sticks in the skin, under the arms in particular I stuff either a large cotton pad or folded tissue if I’m out and forgotten to pad up, between the wire and my skin. I’m 46 and I’ve only just started doing this, I wish I’d thought of doing it years ago. It needs to be a big pad as the little ones slip out.

whenwillthemadnessend · 04/07/2022 22:21

@1moreyear

I use Lanacane anti chafing gel from Amazon. It's fab and a tiny blob goes a long way. It stops the soreness under boob. It's also good for chub rub in hot days My legs are ok it if it's very hot they can rub a bit.

Forgot the most important thing! Never ever sleep without a bra on or walk around without it while healing! 🤗

JasmineAndSalt · 04/07/2022 22:27

I'm 34 J/JJ and I've hated them now for 15 years.
If I lose weight they go down a bit but not below about a GG.
I will be getting a reduction. I wanted to wait until after having babies. It's not the money holding me back now it's just waiting to have the time with work and for my kids not to need constantly lifting up any more. Cannot. Wait.

From having much older men letch from when I was 11, to the issues with exercise to the pain from even good bras to the many many clothes issues they are just awful.

AliceMcK · 04/07/2022 22:28

Thank you @1moreyear I’ve told her she will be fine but I think she sees the struggles I have with boobs (holding them when I run after her sister) and worries she won’t be able to run like she dose. She prides herself on being really fast. Now my 8yo apparently can’t wait to have big boobs 🤦‍♀️

Oceanus · 04/07/2022 22:30

Mine didn't go one bit when I lost weight tbh, if anything it was just more noticeable.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 05/07/2022 08:53

I'm 6 years post surgery and they haven't grown back even when I put on a stone and half during lockdown. I then dieted last year and lost 2 stone and developed a more defined waistline so my boobs looked slightly bigger but were actually exactly the same size. Before surgery my boobs stayed the same size regardless of any weight gain or weight loss. I tend to carry all excess weight around my middle as I'm a typical apple.

I went down from a size 14 to size 8. I was very boney in places - uncomfortably so - still had big thighs that rubbed together - you really can't spot target a troublesome area. Anyway, I did lose weight from my bust. I went down to a 30 E, which was amazing when wearing clothes but my boobs looked horrible - golf ball in a sock - looked like they'd been punctured and my ribs were properly showing, I looked scrawny if wearing anything open necked. Nevermind all that I couldn't maintain it, back to a size 12 and my boobs blew back up again to 30G. They do look better now when I'm naked.

RedElephants · 05/07/2022 09:40

Compared to some of you, I'm quite small, 38DD,

I'm 5'4, a size 12/14 in jeans/trousers but a 18/20 in tops.
I don't do fitted tops etc as I don't feel comfortable, but wear looser fitting things but some can make me feel enormous on top, and and not in proportion.

Eatthecake80 · 05/07/2022 09:50

I’m only a size 10-12 but my boobs are big!
nothing looks good on me,I have to wear a bra with every top/dress,
I thought losing weight would help but nope!

SkeletonFight · 05/07/2022 09:58

I had one 27 years ago and it was one of the best things I ever did - they are still sitting nice and high. I just wanted to be " average". Went from terrible saggy breasts after my children to a 34D. Funnily enough so many people didn't notice and said to me at work, I never noticed and you must have hid it well. I used to wear sports bras all the time. They have changed size though and go up and down with weight loss. Currently they are a 36D as I am fatter than then.

daretodenim · 05/07/2022 13:40

My post-op advice in addition to the above is a pillow under your knees when sleeping (slightly sitting up) because you really can't turn in your sleep them!

And nobody noticed I'd had a reduction. Everybody who noticed anything thought I'd lost weight. Which technically I had as my boobs weighed a lot less!

And one thing I've not seen yet on the thread: going braless! The JOY!

As for them growing back that's not happened with me. I've put on a lot of weight and my boobs have got larger, but they've stayed in proportion to my belly. Definitely haven't gone back to pre op levels - nowhere near and I've never been this fat before. Now if I lose weight I'll be interested to see what happens. Honestly though if I were to go back to my old size (size 10) and they were they were to not reduce (from about size 18) then I'd consider doing the op again to avoid any back/neck problems - but I don't think that'll be necessary.

Oceanus · 05/07/2022 14:01

I got this a lot: oh you look great....! Did you lose weight? You look bloody awesome! I had to lose weight before the surgery but not that much so it really was down to the girls being smaller!
And one thing I've not seen yet on the thread: going braless! The JOY!
Hell yes! This and buying wireless bras, which I couldn't before, and girly bralettes! Plus it's cheaper, so much cheaper to have smaller boobs! Nobody had told me that before either! I have bras that cost 5 euros now whereas before I could only get the really good and expensive ones.

purdypuma · 05/07/2022 15:57

I am between a 12 & a 14 dependant on where I buy my clothes. People carry their weight differently according to their body shape & I have always been between a 36 & 38 D, C cup when I lose weight.
