I hate having big boobs!

There's a current thread where a woman was shamed for being ' flatchested' and whilst I understood how mortified she felt by a so called friend commenting unkindly on it, it did make me think about how very much I dislike my 34g boobs.

Why? Because most fashions don't suit me. I either look frumpy or trashy. Those surrendered wife dresses that are so fashionable right now just look matronly on me, jackets and dresses are either tight on the top or too big on the hips, I have to wear either figure hugging outfits or ones that make me look huge all over, often when I go shopping I feel like I'm am alien as clothes are just not cut to fit my shape.

Even Pepperberry, which has gone out of business, wasn't great. And then, there's a snooty thread saying how you shouldn't wear cardigans, and especially not waterfall ones. Well, those are THE ONLY ONES THAT SUIT MY SHAPE!!

I remember once going on a date with a guy and I was wearing a wrap dress and when I said afterwards why I didn't want t
o go home with him, he said, well why were you wearing a dress like that??

Why is it so hard to find decent clothes..??

I want to say I totally understand where you're coming from OP! I had big boobs before and I always had to look for bigger sizes to accommodate the girls, so I would always looked frumpy!
Phase 8 used to fit well but I had a breast reduction so I don't know whether they're still a good brand. You can also have your clothes fitted at the top to look better. V-necks suited me well then and A-line dresses too.

I think some of you are probably being very mean to yourselves. When I was a teenager I was a bit self flagellating about my boobs but I’ve since realised that that was just a response to idiots who thought they had the right to pass comment on them. I don’t give a shit about that stuff anymore, I like my body and the way it looks and there’s nothing any twat can say to change it.

I agree the backache can be a nightmare though, and clothes sizing is a pain.

LizzieSiddal · 03/07/2022 23:01

Those of you who’ve had reductions, may I ask, how long it takes to recover from the op?

I had mine done in Europe - I had to stay 5 days post op for dressing changes and check ups then I flew home and took care of the rest myself - it was very easy to just change the dressings once a day.
You also have to wear a compression garment for 6 weeks post op which is like a tight bra, it's not particularly fun but it doesn't hinder day to day tasks you just have to be a bit careful lifting etc.
You could probably return to work if it was a desk job after a week, longer if your job is a more physically demanding one

Oceanus · 04/07/2022 00:11

@LizzieSiddal I went home after 3 or 4 days I think because my blood drains (or whatever they're called) only ever had a couple of drops (one was always empty). I had to do IV antibiotics for a while (I think it's standard) and IV paracetamol too.
I changed the dressing in hospital, doctor said it looked fine and I went home. I could only leave with a proper bra. Went back to hospital to change dressings and remove stitches I think. Then returned one after a few weeks and was done.
I also wasn't in any pain, went home with paracetamol and never took any.
I used Bacitracin on the sutures after going home and I had to wear a special bra that opens at the front. I only got one that was surgical, the doctor told me to get the sports ones that open at the front (she recommened Triumph) so I got those after, I just avoided the ones with stitches down the front because those hurt a bit.
Best decision I ever made! Ever!

mackthepony · 04/07/2022 00:16

It is tough. Mine aren't that big but everything looks 'sexy'. Or frumpy.

And for some reason other women seem to think you're doing it on purpose if you wear anything slightly revealing! Itstdummer, ffs

I didn't exactly have a problem with them per se, but I always felt like my boobs were so big they entered the room before me! The clothes not fitting were not the deal breaker for me, I hated all the wrong attention they got, it was very uncomfortable growing up. They weren't proportional to the rest of my body and they were bloody heavy.

Oceanus · 04/07/2022 00:25

mackthepony I usually wore baggy clothes at the top but I once wore this very unsexy blouse with the belt it came with and the comment I got at work, uncalled for and that caught me completely unawares was Oh my God! You have such a small waist, you are so tiny and your boobs are soooo big! Wow, they're really big, I'd never noticed that! You're so tiny! and this came from a woman not from a guy! I want to say I didn't care but deep down I thought I'm never wearing anything fitted at the waist ever again!

Bunty55 · 04/07/2022 00:55

The last time I bought a bra I was a 36 G. I know I am bigger now. None of my bras fit but I hate buying them so I am wearing ones I bought years ago. Most of the time I go braless as I get sore patches underneath especially in summer.
I wear sports bras if I am going out and need to wear a dress as they minimise.
They also support my shoulders and back and improve my posture.
A reduction would be nice but it is never going to happen.

Oceanus · 04/07/2022 01:03

You can wear reduction bras too. I had a few back in the day and they were great. I was a EE or an F but I should have been a G at some point (didn't want to spend the $$ though).
Why wouldn't a reduction happen? If it's money it can't be helped, though if you have bad posture issues and a bad back, the NHS should step in as it's a medical issue (I knew sb who was bending forward at the neck because of the bloody weight). If it's age, my mum's friend had one after retiring and she wasn't the only one, so it's never too late. Just go to a great doctor. Anyone can squeeze implants in (well, almost anyone!) but not everybody can cut and stitch and make it all look symmetrical.

SouperNoodle · 03/07/2022 23:26

I have huge boobs and feel like they look ridiculous. As you say, clothes just don't sit right.
My friend was wearing the most beautiful jacket last week so I tried it on and it looked absolutely stupid on me.

I've told DH that I want a breast reduction and lift in the future and he agrees it's a good idea as he worries about my developing back problems from the sheer size of them.

If you have a breast reduction you don't need a lift, I think those are different surgeries. With a lift you keep the (size of) boobs but they're lifted. With a breast reduction, the boobs will made smaller so the nipple will be put higher so it all gets lifted anyway. I mean, mine got lifted! You only need a reduction, not both.

IheartJKRowling · 04/07/2022 01:56

36HH here and presently sat in bed because I feel like I've been punched at the base of my neck and the top of my shoulders feel like they are on fire. I weighed them once and the weigh about 7lbs each, it's a nightmare.

I'm a 12/14 on the bottom but have to go up to 18 on top. I can't get clothes to fit or hang right on me and have to wear a bra in bed because they are so large and uncomfortable I roll over onto them.

I'm seriously considering a reduction, if anyone can recommend a decent clinic overseas I would be extremely grateful.

Sunnytwobridges · 04/07/2022 02:01

I have big boob and wouldn’t mind them at all except I have a very broad back/shoulders and I’m overweight. So having bigger boobs makes me look matronly nice matter what I wear. When I’m smaller they look fine but with my broad back I feel like my grandma.

fallfallfall · 04/07/2022 02:11

i had a reduction at age 60+ best thing i ever did.

Bickles · 04/07/2022 02:43

34G and totally agree!
I am a wimp when it comes to pain though so I don’t think I will have a reduction. I could do with losing some weight.
Can we share flattering tops and dresses on here to help each other? Really miss Bravissimo clothes.

fallfallfall · 04/07/2022 03:15

the mastopexy was totally pain free thanks to long acting freezing. yes some inconvenience for two weeks (limited range of motion) but that was it.

HarryPopper · 04/07/2022 03:27

While I do like my big boobs, oversized styles make me look enormous and the back and neck pain aren't fun at all. I get so much unwanted attention when I wear something that shows my waist as the contrast in my proportions is like an exaggerated hourglass. I do think it makes me look sexy when I'm trying to be taken seriously and it's ridiculous seeing professional and senior men turn into leering creeps if I turn up wearing something fitted. I had comments from senior women at work, too. Minimisers and sports bras help a bit but I end up with squashed breasts effect which isn't flattering either but at least on profile there isn't as much projection.

Howcoldloveis · 04/07/2022 03:45

I’m 30g - the practicalities are frustrating. I have too little fat on my rib cage so I can’t wear wired bras - they just hurt too much, I also get neck ache, back ache and headaches , so I need proper support - so I wear sports bras. I was recently in A&E for an arm injury - they unhooked my bra and when I asked for it to be hooked up again I was told my bra was too tight and I needed to buy a better fitting one - I felt so angry that the HCA felt she had the right to comment on my underwear - it was chosen for a reason.
Have learnt to dress for my shape, it’s been a path of discovery and acceptance- I don’t like sexy clothing, I play with proportions - for example will wear quite a feminine maybe fitted top with wide trousers and Blundstone boots - will always have a masculine element to tone down my hourglass shape.
One thing that has helped with the back ache/neck ache/headaches was a back pod buybackpod.com/
Stupidly expensive for what it is and you (could maybe try a rolled up towel -I didn’t find that firm enough) but it undoes all that hunching forward and it comes with me every time I travel - that and reducing down to one pillow, I always thought I need more but less is better. Those headaches were awful - often felt like throwing up too!

GinGym · 04/07/2022 05:22

I am 34GG and feel your pain. I also have a very large mum pouch and so have an issue at the top with big boobs and issue at the bottom with large lower tummy. I have given up on fashion and just wear joggies and hoodies most of the time. I so want to look good but don't know where to start. I am 5ft 8 and late 40s and have now been on 2 shopping trips which have left me coming home empty handed and in tears. Nothing fits and I am so far removed from fashion I think most of the styles are just not "me".

Fe345fleur · 04/07/2022 06:13

I feel your pain. If it helps, Popsy do nice dresses that are flattering for booby ladies. Adidas do good sports bras. Or Freya, or shock absorber. I strap the fuckers in and go running and circuit training. There are swimming cossies with good coverage out there, but unfortunate that they're always much more expensive.

I haven't worn a button up shirt in years and Pepperberry don't do clothes any more. Although like you said OP they weren't great anyway. Essentially I have to chose clothes carefully to avoid looking like Hatty Jacques in the Carry On films 😄

FrontRowSeat · 04/07/2022 06:35

Can anyone recommend a good minimiser bra please?

I had one done almost 20 years ago, so I’m sure the nhs are more stringent now. The letter I had said:
patient complains of back ache - this is not a reason to agree the surgery
patient complains of injury from bra straps. - this is not a reason
patient complains of inability to exercise due to weight - this is not a reason
right breast is larger than left breast - this is an acceptable reason due to lack of symmetry so surgery is approved.

obviously I didn’t mention their acceptable reason I didn’t care about.

the surgeon also said, as I was embarrassed being there, that this surgery was probably one of the most important to prevent future drain on the nhs but the powers that be couldn’t see it as any more than cosmetic.

I went from G (probably much bigger but no bigger bras existed back then) to DD and weirdly I’ve settled at F but they’re normal shape and comfortable so I now don’t mind them.

As for clothes, I do find a sewing machine helps as I’ll often buy the size that fits on top and adjust the lower section.

HarryPopper · 04/07/2022 06:58

@FrontRowSeat A lot depends on your breasts shape and 'roots' but I personally like this:

Frolicinameadow · 04/07/2022 07:01

If anyone has clinic recommendations can you send me a dm please?
my chest has been ridiculous since I first got boobs. After 2 kids and breastfeeding they’re insane. I have surgery on my neck this week because of the constant strain, large dips in my shoulders from straps and don’t even get me started on clothes. Add 28+ years of vile comments and being groped by strangers. I hate my chest.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 04/07/2022 07:09

I've always had big boobs and always liked how they looked in clothes - BUT once I hit my 30s I just started to look matronly. I've had 2 kids in 2 years and luckily discovered as soon as I get pregnant my boobs shrink.

I just can't get bras that fit anymore though as I put on weight after both births so my band size just keeps expanding. GG cups are too small but H cups seem too big. I've started wearing crop top styles which squash my boobs and it's really unflattering. I felt ok when I was a 32 or 34 back but at the moment I'm at least a 38 and my profile is awful plus bras are actually painful now. I've stopped buying new ones now as they cost far too much and I'm always disappointed after a few days.

I look horrendous 95% of the time and have run out of ideas of what the hell I can wear other than my old maternity t-shirts every day.

I'm dreading going back to work after maternity leave because I still haven't found anything I could possibly get away with wearing and not look ridiculous.

RampantIvy · 04/07/2022 07:15

IfIhearmumagaintoday · 03/07/2022 22:59

We can't relate to one and other. All you with big boobs would like to be smaller... not flat though!

I'm a size 10 in tops and size 12 in bottoms. I've learnt to make do but my bust is tiny for my shape!

As a flat chested pear I have as much difficulty getting clothes to fit, especially dresses that are designed to fit women with curves. The material drapes emptily and only emphasises my lack of curves. I hate being out of proportion.

DD has the same build as me and had to put up with some really nasty comments from the boys at school. When she was 16 one particularly nasty boy said that he thought she would look like a 12 year old boy with no clothes on Sad

It strikes me that a better fitting bra would help most posters on this thread. The support should come from the band not the straps. If anyone is in the Sheffield area I can recommend an excellent independent bra shop.
