As in looks you've worn in recent years that now look wrong or frumpy? (no Mumsnet debate on the word frumpy please!)

What’s the alternative to ballet flats then? If heels are out what do you wear to the pub / meal

I second this! I wear them at work, with jeans, with dresses. What alternatives are there?

Leggings or tights with shorts, it was never a look but I’ve still a friend who loves it 😂

@georgarina I forgot about the gladiator sandals era. Glad they are gone they did nothing for my legs..

I do a lot of exercise and often pop out for lunch / dinner / errands on my to and from various classes.

I'm really dated then 😄

Side parting? What about choosing what suits you.
I would look awful with a middle parting! Same with choose eyebrow shape to suit your own face.
But I keep clothes until they wear out. Eco and cost.

To replace skinny jeans I wear slim fit with big turn up, bootcut/flares.

I don't know which jeans are the most fashionable but really baggy or Mom & Boyfriend jeans do not suit me at all.

Going back to make up, what are those of us with very few lower eyelashes left (menopause) supposed to do if eyeliner below the eyes is outdated? It's the only way to get any sort of eye definition.

Leggings and tunics outdated but leggings and oversized shirts are in.

M and S is full of older ladies in long dresses and white trainers so it won’t be on the younger people for much longer. What’s coming next?

I think true style is about being to express who you are with clothing. The most stylish person I know is a 60+ goth artist. She always looks amazing.

Snailsaresweet I wear a soft dark grey kohl pencil under my eyes. Used to wear black, so that's my concession to ageing re make up!

I think the question was what now looks dated. There is no need to add "and laughable" - it is unnecessarily snide.

Style & beauty threads can be helpful & interesting without being derogatory.

Knee high boots and little cardigans are definitely trending rather than dated at the moment!

I'll never stop wearing skinny jeans. The only other style I'd consider would be skinny flares. Some of the looser shapes look ok on some people but most of the middle aged women round here look grim in "mom" jeans and that ilk. Plus they've become so ubiquitous they've become a cliché. Mom jeans plus some kind of Edwardian blouse seems to be "the look" du jour. Not for me.

‘Maxi dresses with white trainers and a short denim jacket’. I agree. Mind you, I thought this was looking tired last year. But then it became so ubiquitous, so uniform, so quickly.

I watch trinnys closet confessions and shes supposed to be on trend but I must admit to finding most of what she wears horrific, esp that half in half out tuck pyjama style thing she does.
