As in looks you've worn in recent years that now look wrong or frumpy? (no Mumsnet debate on the word frumpy please!)

@HinchcHinchcliffeandMurgatroyd - I'm genuinely not trying to start an argument.
This is obviously an area you are not familiar with, but you will have to concede that labelling any garment, particularly a traditional one, as something a terrorist would wear is somewhat crass.
They're nice scarves, widely available. Fashionable? Not sure. Terrorist apparel? Not necessarily.

No my point was that seemed to be the intent (political reference?) of the look - like Che Guevara t-shirts but worse - which is what I thought was crass about it. I don’t like scarves myself but I don’t think all scarves are crass in themselves, obviously (if anything is obvious on this bonkers thread). I think I’m allowed to disapprove without that being interpreted as endorsement of the original fashion reference, quite honestly I think I’m also allowed to disapprove without specifically looking up the name of the scarf each time.

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 01/07/2022 20:04

Anyway, I didn’t mean to get into all of that other than to say it wasn’t a good look and rag rugs are a legitimate use for all the left over scarves. 🤷🏻‍♀️

baffledbunny · 01/07/2022 20:04

I've always used a phone case that opens like a book... Just personal preference, I had no idea it was apparently a "trend" that is now out. I'm not changing for anyone! #datedandproud

eglantine7 · 01/07/2022 20:05

Keffiyahs are not in or out. They are a political statement against Israeli aggression and apartheid.
Over and out.

hatchyu · 01/07/2022 20:06

yep ballet pumps defo ok.

I'm going to sound like a twat but used to buy shoes for a living. By the time something is a mainstream trend the trend has moved on because the buying cycle is often 3 months to 1 year to book stock. So take platform heels, they were new the end of last yr & are now very on trend but that won't be picked up by the masses until at least 6 months.

@britinnyc New Balance

@hatchyu

i get you but I just think they’re ugly and look too much like proper gym/running trainers to look good with my outfits IYSWIM

Of course you're allowed to disapprove of a garment! It was just the way you put it. Anyway, don't make a rug from them! 😉

HarryBlaster · 01/07/2022 20:14

I still wear ballet flats. Some look frumpier than others. Like the M&S ones are a no no; especially any with that slightly pointed look. Faux snake skin NO. I got some lovely pairs from ASOS in good colours and they still look really good with jeans and cropped trousers.
Definitely not high heels or knee high boots. I even struggle with ankle boots now but definitely prefer chunky ones if any.
if you take ballet pumps away I would seriously struggle with what to wear when trying to look smart.

I can’t actually check how I DID put it now, but it was the people buying “fashion” versions on the high street without a clue that was so objectionable (and what made it - sorry - so ubiquitous).

I genuinely am sorry if I misworded it so I wasn’t clear. It was just irritating, and kind of ironic to be called names.

Anyway, as you were.

So everyone will be in platforms in six months?

Excellent, a buyer to pick the brains of. What do you think of sustainable fashion given how fast the high fashion cycle moves? Is it mostly just used as a sop-word, CSR concept?

IVFPrayingForBioChild · 30/06/2022 13:41

Dated and laughable ...
Botox
Lip fillers
Face caked with make up
Fake slug eyebrows
Fake tan
Tracksuits when not in the gym
Leisurewear outside the house
Block colour hair dye
Dark hair dye on older people
Coloured hair - pink etc
Clothes that don't fit properly
Body con dresses
High heels / shoes shoes
Ballet pumps rounded at the front / pointy ok
Burberry
Armani
Matching handbag and shoes
Leggings
Long dresses with thick tights or leggings
Long hair if it is limp
Short hair with no style

Most people just don't know how to dress.

Not sure where you are getting your information, but Leisurewear (outside the house) is very on trend! Some of your other points are questionable too.

hatchyu · 01/07/2022 20:17

@LuckySantangelo35 defo for the asics style ones but I really like some of them & think they look great with normal clothes.

The 550s are probably the trendiest & the 327s. I like the 237s & 574s

No problem - it's a minefield at times.
You don't get this with cardigans! 😊

HarryBlaster · 01/07/2022 20:19

I cringe now when I see photos of me in leggings and tunics.

I cringe now when I see photos of me in leggings and tunics.

It was a very popular look at the time and it was hardly the worst one we've ever had.

hatchyu · 01/07/2022 20:24

So everyone will be in platforms in six months?

Nope platforms will become more popular in a few months.

Excellent, a buyer to pick the brains of

Well used to be. I personally don't buy from places like Boohoo, Shein etc but I have the luxury of a higher budget. Sustainable & fast fashion don't really square & the majority don't have the budget. Hence the majority of high street footwear will no longer be made in Spain or Italy.

Me too, all my pictures after I had my first DC have me in a Boden tunic, leggings and knee high ridding boots. Plus an indoor scarf. It made me look so old!

Housewife2010 · 01/07/2022 20:30

For everyone who said that ballet flats are dated www.vogue.com/article/ballet-flat-comeback-2000s

hatchyu · 01/07/2022 20:33

I can't do huge platforms but I've ordered a pair from Cos that aren't too big.

Wam90 · 01/07/2022 20:42

Velvet trousers and a sequin top as a ten year old going into the year 2000 😂

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 01/07/2022 20:42

I know shocking isn't it? what would Net-a-Porter know about what's "on trend"?

MichaelAndEagle · 01/07/2022 20:52

For those asking what to wear now instead of ballet flats....what are you wearing them with now?
I've never even owned a pair.
