Me too! Wearing a tunic dress and leggings today. Skinny jeans tomorrow!
I DGAF about fashion. I wear what’s comfortable and pleases me. But it has to be said that styles do denote eras. Dated, though is a peculiar concept. Modern stuff, like boyfriend jeans or high waisted jeans look really dated to me. High waisted jeans look like Mom-jeans, especially with no belt (which is how I believe they are worn!) and baggy ones, and all the really flappy jump suits and culottes look very, very 90’s, when you got lost inside your clothes as standard! You just need a huge sweater shop sloppy jumper, and you’re good to go! Especially with awful clunky shoes or massive trainers. What is it with them? I’m pretty sure I was wearing long print skirts with denim jackets and massive shoes in the 90’s as well.
I assume this is because I’m Gen X, and was forming a lot of my personal grown up style (such as it is) in my twenties in the early noughties. It took me a LONG time to warm to skinny jeans because they looked so 70’s/early 80’s to me. But if you grew up with your mum in skinnies and leggings, the baggy style probably looks very fresh and different.
I can’t imagine the (not-extremely-skinny-or-baggy) jeans, Breton top and blazer look ever not looking classic, but for the nuances. Maybe not on trend, but that’s the point, isn’t it? Trends always date, they have to, or they couldn’t be a trend. On the whole, I think most high street fashion looked absurd then, and it looks absurd now. I’m picky though. I make most of my own clothes that aren’t stretchy (stretchy is a pain to sew). I dare say they look fairly stupid if you’re not me, too. Fortunately, I am me!
