Though to be fair regarding the shoes Meghan also wore pointy white courts with her white trouser suit at Invictus.

MrsOwainGlyndŵr · 22/06/2022 18:03

I'd like to see all the royals in flat/flatter shoes occasionally all the time.

hopeishere · 22/06/2022 18:19

I agree re flats. Those stilettos are so dated now.

No! I don’t want practicality in my royals, I want glamour, high fashion, high heels and diamonds! I see enough flats and trainers in real life.

I see this type comment a lot on here but no examples of what flat shoes would look good with the type of clothes Kate wears at royal occasions, the dress at Ascot for example? I just don’t think she would look as elegant if she teamed this outfit with a pair of ballet flats, personally I think flat shoes of any type would look dreadful with this hat and dress.

I think stilettos have their place (at Ascot for example) but they don't always have to be the same old style.

Flats are only going to be ok with trousers in my mind.

AmberLynn1536 · 22/06/2022 18:51

Yes, Kate just needs to change the style of her heels rather than the same pair in a million colours.

KillingMeDeftly · 22/06/2022 19:27

I think the stilettos looked fine at Ascot but feel that a trouser calls for a chunkier heel. Maybe something in the vein of these Tod's she's worn before though probably not that colour with white.

susiebluebell · 22/06/2022 19:38

I agree a lot of those outfits would be difficult to do with flats. But there are so many options that aren't stilettos!

But you'd get used to flats pretty quickly if they became fashionable.
It's not that long ago that you couldn't get a job if you had visible tattoos, for example. But now they are acceptable.
I don't see why women should wear footwear that damages their feet just to look "elegant". Men don't feel the need to be "elegant". Or if they do, they don't achieve the look by wearing high heels.

Exactly. It's the stilletos with everything that's boring. Mix it up a bit! She's not at Ascot every day.

HMQ received Justin Welby today. I think that style and print rather suit her. She seems more diminutive by the day.

I agree MOP ,a pretty ,summery change from block colours - no need to stand out in a crowd .

I feel a bit mean for snooping at background furnishings but can't help wondering why a queen wouldn't have her booster cushion covered in fabric to match ones chair/s upholstery .

But I'm sure our Queen ,like many wealthy people ,is frugal.

Isn't it just the cushion and back off a different chair?

peridito · 23/06/2022 11:09

Not that it matters but I don't think so .Having cared for elderly parents and those of friends , that type of square dimpled cushion seems so recognisable to me .
But yeah ,could be that someone has taken it off another piece of furniture to serve the purpose of raising the seat to facilitate getting up and down .
But ,you know it's a bit of fine art getting just the right height of seat (especially for someone who is short ) for an elderly person.Physios and OT's are even professionally trained in stuff like this .I can't help being slightly taken aback by such a Heath Robinson (and ugly) approach to a common situation by someone who is not short of funds and access to good care .

I was more struck by the little figure of the Guardsman holding out a tray by the door! 😀

William and Kate are in Cambridge today, to view a joint portrait painted of them as a gift to the county of Cambridgeshire. It’s a good likeliness (a bit flattering to William’s hairline, maybe!) but I am really impressed by the lustre of her Vampire’s Wife dress. Have we ever seen her wear those Louboutin shoes?? She definitely hasn’t worn the Cambridge pendant pearl brooch that she’s painted wearing (though it’s a nice touch - it belonged to a previous Duchess of Cambridge. She also has on Diana’s Collingwood pearl earrings and her bracelet).

SenecaFallsRedux · 23/06/2022 12:58

The guardsman is a nice touch. I remember reading that she has one of those pillows that says "It's good to be Queen" on a sofa at one of her residences. Perhaps it's one of those jokey gifts that the RF are known to give at Christmas.

SenecaFallsRedux · 23/06/2022 13:02

I have to say, not a fan of the dress in that portrait. All it needs to be bridesmaid-in-1980s wedding (complete with matching shoes) are shoulder pads.

paradyning · 23/06/2022 13:39

I am definitely coming down with something. Absolutely love Kate's look today.

On the portrait don't like the Manolo's with that dress!

KillingMeDeftly · 23/06/2022 14:14

I do like that green VW dress on Kate but I've never seen her wear those shoes. Artistic license I suppose, along with making both of her look a fair bit younger in the portrait! In fact I'd say the William is a good likeness but the Kate is very slightly off.

KillingMeDeftly · 23/06/2022 14:17

Not hugely keen on today's ensemble but I'm not the biggest fan of lilac.

Royal Style - here's to 70 more years of frocks and rocks!
MotherofPearl · 23/06/2022 14:33

Also not lilac lover. Plus I can't understand why she's wearing a coat? It's boiling hot today (NW).

MotherofPearl · 23/06/2022 14:36

Sound the tiara klaxon!

Max and Wax have hosted a Diplomatic Corps gala dinner! I'm not sure about this colour on Max, but am full of appreciation for the tiara, necklace and earrings.

KillingMeDeftly · 23/06/2022 14:38

It's grey and drizzly in London but around 24/25 degrees, so I assume similar in Cambridge. Unless the lilac is very lightweight, it's definitely not coat weather!

KillingMeDeftly · 23/06/2022 14:45

That's one hell of a parure on Maxima! I did some Googling and it's called the Mellerio tiara.
