WWW's six week ten year younger boot camp, WEEK TWO, 2008

WideWebWitch · 13/01/2008 21:16

This is week 2 of the first WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Thanks www for the thread. Sorry I'm on it so infrequently. I'm writing this short post so that I can find it and try to do better. So far it's not going too well.

Goals:-
~ remember sunscreen again (have got out of the habit)
~ I find I really like my 1 small glass of wine a day but right now I'm having a second glass (but only a half glass)
~ must improve my walking. Things at home very busy atm because I'm showing our new au pair stuff but I hope to build in more time for me soon
~ water I can manage! I have a good 4 glasses whilst in work
~ apply body cream after my daily shower
~ I am doing hand cream every night and I'll try to do foot cream too - preferably out of sight of dh, poor thing!
~ try to get to bed by 10.30pm. dh has been really bad at this recently so I've been going off to bed early by myself - tada!
~ eat healthily - I'm managing this one ok
~ be happy - I'm getting there!

Sorry, this wasn't a short post after all. Sorry for the dreadful English, too.

PollyDolly · 13/01/2008 23:02

Just adding myself to the thread. Thanks for this WWW.

Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend and is looking forward to another week of bootcamp. I certainly feel better for less booze and more water!

bamamama · 14/01/2008 01:19

Hi all. In response to the tail end of last weeks thread - WWW - hope you got your lunch deliveries sorted out to ease the bag issue on your commute. We're not sleeping as its so farking hot here and the air con doesn't reach the bedrooms (I'm trying not to mention the heat as it will look like I'm being smug - I'm not, it's driving me mad). Prufrock - well done on the weight loss, and I will point dh in the direction of Laithwaites for when we return to Blighty. He is a bit of a wine snob and doesn't think twice about £20 on a Wednesday-in-front-of-the-telly bottle which we really can't justify. Marina, hope you're feeling better.

anyway a successful bootcamp weekend - lots of water (due to aforementioned heat), not much alcohol and lots of exercise. I left ds at nursery for the first time this morning and treated myself to an uninterrupted coffee, cake and read of the newspaper. Will be good for the rest of the week...

Sobernow - Toulouse sausages are good. And anyway, it was Sunday. Doesn't count.

Batters - tell your dh he is talking tosh. You CANNOT spot train to reduce fat in any particular area. If you use the handles on the cross trainer you will get a better cardio wrkout, but this will simply lead to you losing more fat overall, and it will come off the areas that you are genetically programmed to store fat last.

If you want to make it a better workout, and more interesting (I speak as one who cannot manage more than 5 minutes on a single machine) you could do some toning arm exercises as well - Hold a can of beans or weights in each hand, and lift your arms. I tend to do 30 seconds straight out to the sides, 30 seconds curling in front and 30 seconds swinging behind - it breaks up the boredom, and helps build core muscles as it's harder to keep your balance. It's also perfectly acceptable to do 5 minutes stop and do a few sit ups/stretches and do another 5 minutes - as long as you don't stop for too long

Prufrock · 14/01/2008 10:16

Can I also recommend yoga for everyone - it's an animated tutorial for sun salutations - I try to do 5 every day and it's brilliant for making you more supple

marina · 14/01/2008 10:40

I was going to suggest a full body workout by wrapping the entire cross-trainer round your dp's annoying neck batters but I see prufrock has provided much more helpful feedback
Of course, he has a perfect bod?
Sunday sausages, like Sunday bolognese, don't count sobernow. I hope you really enjoyed them and that they were rich in fennel seeds and garlic
Nice to see you posting simply and honestly, bamamama, complain about the heat on here as much as you like. I would loathe Australasia at this time of year, I get the fidgets on a hot day at Camber Sands.
Congratulatory at your gorge new coat though batters, drape it over their heads if they keep heckling

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 14/01/2008 14:06

lol at marina's full body workout. batters - anytime spent on a machine is useful (though currently you can't see my rowing machine or exercise bike because they are looking after the ironing pile)!

at Pru's steam. My friend recently moved into a tres 70s house that has a steam room, sun lounge (with bar, natch) & pool arrangement at the side and they're debating whether to keep it or rip it out. I think they should keep it as it is because it's hilarious!

Yesterday I discovered a box of M&S Florentines and have almost finished them - the sell-by date was August 2008 and it'll be late summer before we know it... Also had shepherds pie and pepsi.

Haven't bought a new car - it's tax month.

Exercise - not much yet but I have mucking out and plunging feet in and out of mud to look forward to.

Cam · 14/01/2008 18:14

Glad you're feeling better Marina

Also must say how gorgeous does Batters look

LoveAndSqualor · 14/01/2008 19:25

bamamama, you have my utmost sympathy - can't bear the heat either, esp at night when you're all sticky and itchy. Hope it cools down for you soon.

mmm, florentines.

OK day: had my hair cut which cheered me up no end as it'd run away with itself somewhat over the festive period. Foodwise, definitely medium:

Two slices of granary toast with marmalade
Banana
Grapes
Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel at midday (to tide me over until after haircut)

Then to Pret to buy lunch, which was:
One of their amazing ham and greve baguettes, which I Love, but which I suspect are less than healthsome
A chocolate brownie
A diet coke
And some redemptive mango slices

Plus water, peppermint tea and a bowl of dry cereal (some organic nonsense with corn and quinoa) while on the computer now.

Did cycle in and out of work, though, and will prob have leek and potato soup and bread later.

Happiness-wise - also medium. Busy day at work and now must MUST get on with writing up a thing that has to be in tomorrow, all of which is keeping from the sofa

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 14/01/2008 20:00

L&S - don't mention Pret, it reminds me how badly I want to eat crayfish & rocket or poached salmon with dill mayo sandwiches. My nearest branch is about an hours drive.

Not enough walking for me today, although that's guess work because I haven't fixed my Moron yet.

I've eaten no breakfast, apple juice, 5 florentines, orange, lettuce/avocado/tomato salad with small piece of cheese and 2 crackers, 3 coffees, half a canteloupe melon and as yet no dinner but not feeling hungry. I might just have a sandwich.

Not enough water but I'm still drinking so should reach target by bedtime. Went to bed after midnight despite being tired so will try to do better today.

I also need a shower & hairwash so will cover myself in body butter & flexitol as appropriate.

Happy. I'm not sure. But at least Monday is nearly over.

WideWebWitch · 14/01/2008 20:44

Gosh that's healthy DofN! Sympathy on Pret being miles

Hey L&S, Good news! Look -> that baguette was only 543 cals, not bad at all. We'll gloss over the brownie...Glad your haircut was cheering

Hi Cam! I agree, she does!

lol at entire body round cross trainer, Marina, quite. I hope you're feeling better and cantering to the loo less

Batters, FAB news on the coat and NO BODEN Sizes DO NOT COME UP BIG . I am about to send some stuff back that I don't like but one item was a size smaller than I usually am and I could just about get it on. So that's NOT a dress size down but getting there. ish. Very ish mind you.

Bama, oh the heat must be awful, I cannot stnad the sun, sympathy to you

Hi pollydolly!

Simply, welcome back, sounds good.

Sobernow, sausages on Sunday simply don't count, couldn't think of further alliteration there

Right, I have a HORRIBLE story for you all

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 14/01/2008 20:49

I went to the loo at work this afternoon after a long meeting, so I was desperate for a wee. (sorry, tmi in this whole story come to think of it) and the loo I went in was still had some poo in it from the person who had just been in there but I was desperate for a wee so didn't re flush it, started to pull my skirt up when, ewww, ewww, my wedding ring flew off and into the fking loo. I was aghast. It's my wedding ring, I couldn't leave it. I had no choice, I had to put my hand in and get it out. Eww eww ewww ewww. And then I had to come out of the cubicle to SCRUB my hands in v hot water (with my skirt pulled down but my pants still half down, as I didn't want to touch anything and certainly not my clothes before washing my hands) before going back in for my wee. Thank goodness my pelvic floor's ok is all I can say. It was VILE, yuk, yuk.

Bet that's put you all off eating anything else and as dh said, looking on the bright side I must have lost more weight if my wedding ring is flying off.

unknownrebelbang · 14/01/2008 20:50

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

WideWebWitch · 14/01/2008 20:51

Anyway:

2 pieces toast, butter, Marmite
radish salad sandwich, 250 cals
banana
2 chupa chups lollies at work, 50 cal each
some nuts and berries mix at Euston
M&S rosemary crusted sea bass
M&S organic mash, but only 2 small spoonfulls
M&S broccoli, beans and asparagus with parmesan
Plenty water
walking on commute
terrible nights sleep last night so intend to be asleep by 9.30 tonight
and Monday is over, hurrah.

OP posts:
TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 14/01/2008 20:54

Ewwww indeed.

DH has just offered to bring me a Pret sandwich home next time he goes into town.

unknownrebelbang · 14/01/2008 21:32

Are you in bed yet www?

Anyhoo...

  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze yy
  • No exercise today
  • Lots of weak tea.
  • Apply body cream as often as possible no.
  • Use hand cream/foot cream yy.
  • Go to bed early, late night last night but made the most of DH doing the schoolrun this morning, last chance of a mini lie-in because of his shifts.
  • Eat healthily, did really well today, until I discovered the bag of white choc maltesers. I don't even like white choc much .
  • Be happy, all things considered, not a bad day. Am getting to grips with bootcamp again.
Prufrock · 14/01/2008 22:18

EWWWWWWWWWWWW. That is so vile www. Have you now wrapped sticky tape round the back of your ring so it won't come off again.

Duch - I resent the implication that steam rooms are tacky. Mine is gorgeous and got a Certificate of Commendation in the Designer magazine awards see

Today
Exercise: 20 minutes cardio, 100 sit ups, yoga, long saunter through village with dogs.

Food: 2 cups coffee, 2l water. 1 peppermint tea. Granola and skimmed milk. Chicken & green bean salad. Mushroom rissotto (and OK I did add butter and parmesan, but there are some things one has to allow)

marina · 14/01/2008 23:13

at www's loo exploits, dd would love that story. Your dh cannot EVER say you don't love him or respect your marriage (not that he does say this IYSWIM) after that little episode
Worked til 8pm, shelving like a demon, mucho calories burned shinning up and down ladders etc, surely... not so many steps today due to alarm clock mishap. Lunch was sushi and a load of mango and blueberries, but after Sprouting Seeds nightmare last week I've decided rice cakes are preferable. Eurk they were rank.
Lots of water, hand cream, happiness was pretty good until 9.15pm when I had the very upsetting news that my uncle (dad's older brother) has had a heart attack. We are waiting for more news but given he was blue-lighted from the outer burbs straight to King's Cardiac Unit is a worry - and all my family are ancient so this is a sprightly 86 year old we are talking about

bamamama · 15/01/2008 03:35

Marina - sorry to hear about your Uncle, hope everything works out.

WWW - how truly revolting. Still, an upside is that it inspired me to clean our bathroom so consider it the butterfly/crap/wedding ring influencing the nice clean loo on the otherside of the world. (somebody please tell me how that could be phrased intelligably. And I know I can't spell)

Another hot day here so uping the water intake again. It is inspiring me to eat lots of salad and fruit so that's good. Poor ds headbutted a concrete step this morning at playgroup and has a huge lump on his head. He had a little cry and then demanded a biscuit so I think he'll survive.....

That steam room is bigger than my kitchen prufrock
Am loving the clean loo down under chaos theory bama
Sadly my uncle died in the night, from what little I heard so far his heart was seriously damaged and the attack was such he was very unlikely to pull through.
I loved him very much. They lived in the same pristine, comfortable house for nearly 50 years and visiting them, and having them come to us, is part of the fabric of my childhood.
By chance and choice, they were home alone for Christmas (close family with g-grandchildren etc but some members live abroad and uncle and aunt didn't want to make the trip this year), so we persuaded them to come over for a fairly chaotic morning coffee - they wouldn't stay for lunch. I'm so glad we twisted their arms now.
So it's nul points for happiness for me today.
