Best chub rub shorts for a lady on a budget?

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 27/05/2022 11:43

Help me please Mumsnetters!

I'm a slightly larger lady (size 16 but quite tall) but my thighs are suffering after only a few hours in a dress today. It's not even that warm!

I need to get some shorts but I want the best I can get for the smallest budget possible... what can you recommend?

Snag tights. They are amazing.

Worldgonecrazy · 27/05/2022 11:45

Primark tights, cut off just above the knee. I’m a size 8 and still get thigh rub in summer!

chipsandpeas · 27/05/2022 11:46

primark cycling shorts

SpikyHatePotato · 27/05/2022 11:56

I buy cotton cycling shorts

OooPourUsACupLove · 27/05/2022 12:08

These are very comfy. I'm size 16 and wear XL-XXL

T( ^^ that link is 17.50 for three pairs. One pair is 8.99)

JorisBonson · 27/05/2022 12:12

Another vote for Snag. They are game changers.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 27/05/2022 12:14

Another vote for Snag. Not the cheapest initial outlay but they last forever. I have some that are three years old and still going strong.

thesugarbumfairy · 27/05/2022 12:15

I prefer the bigbloomerscompany ones. They are more 'airy'. Snag tights ones are fine but they are more 'tightsy'. However they both do the job. I just have a preference. Mine are all years old so I don't know what the prices are.

thesugarbumfairy · 27/05/2022 12:15

oh and popsy clothing do them too. Also more 'tightsy'

FlosCampi · 27/05/2022 12:18

I find Snag too long and too hot and you have to wear knickers as well. M and S do an anti-chafe "boy short" style knickers in much cooler underwear material, also cheaper!

kittykarate · 27/05/2022 17:10

I haven't tried the snag ones, but I did have some Evans ones (remember them?) that were made of tights material. They worked, but honestly felt really sweaty and scratchy. I tried some weird things that were like hold up stocking tops - they worked but not if you were moving around a lot, as you had to get them really precisely positioned.

My favourites are Sloggi Longs - made of normal cotton rich knicker material, proper gusset. However, bloody expensive. I've seen these clones on the internet, but not tried them . www.freemans.com/products/pack-of-3-long-briefs/_/A-907914_22

Cotton bike shorts from Decathon. Uniqlo have airism bike shorts, also v good.

MrsMigginsCat · 27/05/2022 17:15

I bought some in M&S this week. Two pairs for £18. Then I went into Matalan and they had very similar for less than a tenner. The M&S ones are soft and comfy though.

Snag shorts are tights cut off. You could do this yourself with your laddered tights or cheapo ones from Primark if you want nylon encasing your legs in the heat. I know I don't! The nylon is far too hot and I hate the feeling and sound of tights rubbing against each other especially in hot, sweaty weather. I recommend cotton cycling shorts or using something like glide on your inner thighs. There is also a company that does cotton 'bloomers'. Very airy and kind of cute if you ask me.

Etsy may have sellers selling bloomers. I haven't looked but worth looking there and on ebay too as it may be cheaper.

There was a 10 page thread on Snag here

SpeedofaSloth · 27/05/2022 17:22

Snag, they last forever.

Harrietjanet · 27/05/2022 17:24

I saw some advertised from New Look. Those will probably be cheap.

glamosaurus · 27/05/2022 17:24

Snag are awful. Too hot, too expensive and not a patch on primark cycling shorts.

Twizbe · 27/05/2022 17:26

Ivy Verdure ivyverdure.com/ someone I know swears by this stuff.

I bought some Evans ones about 20 years ago. Wore them for the first time in years a couple of weeks ago in a hot country and they were fine.

Elmo230885 · 27/05/2022 17:32

I vote snags. They were a game changer for me.

BigOldBlobber · 27/05/2022 17:36

If you want shapewear type ones I got some good ones from asos (lindex full bodysuit) and Amazon with a corset built in

If you just want cheap tights style I got some from asos that are like tights but just shorts like £12 for two, no holding in though

WhoWants2Know · 27/05/2022 17:50

I also vote for Primark cycling shorts

randomsabreuse · 27/05/2022 18:10

Check Lidl and Aldi websites. I got some from one of them last year and they're really comfortable!
