Best chub rub shorts for a lady on a budget?

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 27/05/2022 11:43

Help me please Mumsnetters!

I'm a slightly larger lady (size 16 but quite tall) but my thighs are suffering after only a few hours in a dress today. It's not even that warm!

I need to get some shorts but I want the best I can get for the smallest budget possible... what can you recommend?

I love snag shorts. Even if I was slightly alarmed by their tiny size when they arrived 🤣

They stretch a lot and don't leave any lumps or bumps like some proper shorts do.

Peppapig7262662 · 27/05/2022 18:17

Snag are great for tights, not so much chub rub shorts.
I juts buy primark cheap cycling shorts.

thehillswerebright · 27/05/2022 18:18

I just get sloggie long pants, they last well.

Pashazade · 27/05/2022 18:56

Just for a pair off SHEIN, cheap as and order two sizes bigger but do the job!

MrsFionaCharming · 27/05/2022 19:04

I got some thin cotton cycle shorts in Tesco last week. 2 pairs for about £6.

They do the job nicely and I’ve been wearing them around Italy this week without them feeling too hot.

(I thought they looked awful but figured it didn’t matter as no one would see them. Turns out DH quite likes me in tight fugly shorts 😳)

I buy cotton cycling shorts. Got 2 pairs for a tenner in asda

These are very comfy. I'm size 16 and wear XL-XXL

I wear these ones too. Don’t dig in or roll down on my tummy or up on my legs. I had one pair then bought a pack of three as I use them so much over the summer.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 27/05/2022 19:20

Have you ever tried lanacane I find it amazing and have never used shorts since

LaLoose · 27/05/2022 19:48

Not Snag!!! Ty at Sainsburys do excellent cycling shorts - a much better bet.

Cannot recommend sloggi ones enough! You need cotton to stay cool and airy, anything tights material is synthetic, sweaty and a breeding ground for thrush

hepaticanobilis · 27/05/2022 19:54

I prefer the tights material ones because cycling shorts add so much bulk and are really hot.

My favourites are an unbranded eBay find (BNWT obvs) so not very helpful, but they are amazing silky underwear type fabric but thin, not bulky.

FindMeInTheSunshine · 27/05/2022 20:16

I like Wirapa because they are a high cotton content. But they probably aren't the cheapest.

Maëlys · 27/05/2022 20:17

i got some non branded ones from eBay last year but the fabric of my dresses clung to them and bunched up when I was walking. It was annoying so I ditched them and went back to talcum powder. Can anyone recommend some that clothes don’t cling to?

Big Bloomers

PinkButtercups · 27/05/2022 20:21

I got a pair of cycling type shorts in Primark. They're literally legging material £2!

Lndnmummy · 27/05/2022 21:01

I have the m&s ones and really rate them

Afterfire · 27/05/2022 21:04

Yours do a cheaper version of the snag type ones. I can’t get the link now but if you look on shapewear you’ll find them, even though they’re not actually shapewear. I size up in them so they’re comfortable- I’m usually a size 18/20 and I get the size for a 24 and that size is great.

FrangipaniBlue · 27/05/2022 21:09

Asseos chamois cream - I'd never heard of chamois cream until I became I cyclist - amazing stuff!!!

DustyTulips · 27/05/2022 21:10

I’ve tried Snag and bloomers and some cheap Amazon ones, and like these Sainsburys ones best. Cotton and don’t roll up - I don’t like the feel of tights materiel when it’s hot.

PeaceLily2000 · 27/05/2022 22:50

Another vote for snag.
I wear them as underwear so nothing underneath (obvs only wear once before washing). I am a very hot person but find them light as a feather to wear, cool and so comfortable.
They come up high, are long in the leg but you can hoist them up a bit without any added bulk.
Only downside, they are quite sheer (but I guess this creates many of the benefits mentioned above) so if not wearing knickers underneath, be wary of that especially wearing shorter dresses. However I have have them in nude so darker colours may not present the same issue

potteringinmysocks · 27/05/2022 23:44

Snag tights are game changers for larger ladies... why are all tights not made like this?!!

But for anti chafe shorts M&S all the way. I bought a few pairs in various shades 3 years ago, still wear them loads. They wash well and are incredibly comfortable especially in hot weather. £12 each but worth every penny.

I have been browsing at M&S and found this: https://www.marksandspencer.com/anti-chafing-shorts-with-cool-comfort/p/clp60165135?intid=mobileappppdpshare

I have these cotton ones. They feel lovely under my skirts and dresses.

The snag chub rub shorts are perfect for me, I actually feel cooler wearing them than not. Though I found the sizing a bit erratic.
But I think the tights are utterly rubbish!
